The brothers Stemper are some of the most arrogant, unhelpful people in Catholic business. I was once humiliated and picked on by Jim for having what he perceived as more traditional tendencies – which is none of his business – by having a Biretta placed on my head while I was not looking. This is not quality service, and I actively encourage people to take their business somewhere else. St. Louis Catholic Supply is now my Catholic good store of choice, despite their being 6+ hours away. The inconvenience is preferred to the cold, unhealthful brothers at T.H. Stempers.

Stemper’s has a wide variety of church goods and statues. There’s a consignment section, an Irish section, and a bargain basement. The bargain basement has a lot of books, greeting cards, picture frames, jewelry, prayer cards, statues, and Christmas decorations. If you have a wedding, baptism, confirmation, or first communion coming up, it pays to check out the merchandise at Stemper’s first because everything is reasonably priced. If you’re thinking of building a home altar, check out the consignment area for used kneelers, statues, and candleholders that come from actual churches.
