History

Established in 1977.

Attorney Arthur Heitzer has repeatedly been listed by Milwaukee Magazine among its «Best Lawyers» as well as in the national listings of «Super Lawyers» and «Who’s Who in American Law.»

Since 1975 he has successfully litigated a full range of employment and housing discrimination cases, in addition to consulting and negotiating on other job-​related matters, including employment, severance contracts, harassment and wrongful discharge.

Attorney Brenda Lewison became an associate with the Law Office of Arthur Heitzer in April 2006. She ran her own practice from 1995 – 2005 and was associated with a different firm in the interim. Since graduation from law school, Ms. Lewison has primarily worked representing individuals in various employment related matters.

Attorney John Leppanen joined the firm in 2013, and works with clients in Employment, Family, and Estate Planning Law.

Attorney Heitzer is an honors graduate of both Marquette University and the University of Wisconsin-​Madison Law School (1975). He clerked for the National Labor Relations Board in Washington, D.C. At MU, he helped found the nationally recognized Equal Opportunity Program, and served as president of the student body in 1968 – 69. The son of immigrant working class parents, he attended college on a scholarship from the Service Employees International Union. He has received many awards, including as «Civil Libertarian of the Year» in 2007 from the ACLU of Wisconsin.

Attorney Heitzer has lectured and chaired numerous programs and was invited by the UWM Departments of Sociology and Africology to design and teach courses on «The Relationship between the Black Liberation and Labor Movements» and on «The Constitution and African-​Americans.»
