Not knowing where to go to fix my winter coat, when we first arrived to this land of ice and snow, I called around to several stores listed under alterations in the phone book. Most places were closed that Saturday afternoon, but Golden Thread was open and said that she would be happy to fix my coat. I knew the bus went down Burleigh, so I knew I could get there and off I went. I quickly learned that Burleigh changes as you head west, but I ventured on. I rang the door bell to be let in the small shop and was greeted by the woman I had spoken with. She was surprised to see me, but agreed to work on my coat. Golden Thread is more of an African Clothing boutique than an alteration shop, but I didn’t know where else to turn so I left my favorite coat in her hands. Two and a half weeks later(she had warned me it was going to be about two weeks) and two snow storms later, I went to pick it up. She had done a lot of work to fix it and it looked good to go. Yeah! Then she only charged me about $ 10 and I was like double yeah! I felt good supporting a local small business and would go back for alterations and small fixes for sure.
