The hairdresser named Lora practically shaved the side of my head, while I asked to just slightly trim my hair. After I told her that what she was doing was too short, she was not able to do the other side of my head symmetrically, even though I specifically asked her to fix it. I ended up having extremely short asymmetric haircut that is impossible to fix, because it is too short

Realistic wait time quotes paired with fast and quality service! For sure my new go to spot in Riverwest! Bonus: it’s next door to Collectivo! Grab a coffee and a snack while you wait! Bonus round 2: Free wifi, y’all!

I’m the kind of person who avoids getting my hair cut until it’s driving me crazy. I don’t like super fancy salons and haven’t found any other place I’m sold on. I decided to try out the Riverwest CG after having some mixed results at the Farwell location, and was pleasantly suprised. I came on a Saturday late morning, was told there was an hour wait, and probably waited 40 min. My stylist, Kia, gave me what I asked for, with a refreshing lack of inane small talk.
Overall, good experience. The Humboldt location has a very open feel to it. Bonus points for being next door to Colectivo. Minus one star for having to sit at the station that is inexplicably two feet from the waiting area. Awkward.

Cassidy gave me the best haircut I have ever gotten! I have had very long thick hair my entire life and decided it was time for a change so I went for a cut that was just below my shoulders. I was very nervous to do so, but I am so happy I did because it looks so awesome! I have always gotten subpar haircuts wherever I went but Cassidy really listened to what I wanted and asked me multiple times if everything looked good or if I wanted to change something. She stayed after close to finish my cut and was super accommodating, I will definitely return here.

My previous stylist had just quit the biz, and I was in a rut. I was hating on how my hair had grown out with wonky layers and the like, and was nervous to get it cut. Cutting Group gave me a stellar deal ($ 25 for a haircut is not bad at ALL) and Vanessa gave me a stellar haircut. I was even the needy customer that asked for a little more length taken off at the end. She was totally accommodating and ready to work with what I wanted, offering suggestions and advice as we went along. Total sweetheart, totally wonderful experience.
Ye be warned, however, long waits ahead! I waited about an hour, which was a total easy fix with a book on hand and Colectivo next door. But I can see how this would make folks cranky if they weren’t aware. Don’t be cranky! Be aware! It’s worth it if you plan your visit properly. :)

The cost and convenience of the Cutting Group are major features. You can just walk right in and get a solid haircut for $ 22 (if you’re in their system or your stylist is nice– $ 25 otherwise.)
However, there are downsides to that as well. I was told the wait would be 15 minutes, but waited over 30. As more people came in they were being told an hour to an hour and a half wait. Sure you can go grab some coffee next door, but that’s a long time to wait for a hair cut.
The stylist I got was pretty quiet. In fact, I had to ask her her name because she didn’t introduce herself to me. If you’re gonna be all up in my hair I’d at least like to know your name. She (mostly) seemed to know what she was doing in terms of cutting my hair. However, like most other salons I’ve been to, she didn’t know how to style my curly hair. When she finished, it was a frizzy mess. I went home and immediately washed and styled it myself, and the final verdict was that the cut was decent.
The Cutting Group seems like a temporary solution for me until I find another salon I like. It’ll hopefully never be my regular place, because I actually prefer to in a committed relationship with a hair stylist who knows my hair.
However, if you’re looking for an inexpensive place to get your hair done, don’t like stylist committment, and are willing to take a gamble, then Cutting Group is a solid, A-​OK option.

i LOVE the cutting group. Like i kinda want to buy my new stylist flowers from my hair thats how awesome she is. Yep this is the new home for my hair. Lets get indepth on my hair affair at the cutting group.
1. Its simple its big open designed space with a sweet pool table. Simple gorgeous waiting purple couch. Its purple what more do you want! purple rocks
2. They sell Bumble and Bumble. = WINNING
3. They will cut your hair for free on your birthday
4. Haircut a super reasonable $ 25 BUT if you join the Smart and Neat program (which is totally free) if you cut your hair every 30 days or less its only $ 15! take that haircutting world. Yes I can get a super awesome hair for 15. Thats amazing I have paid like 40,50,60 before and my hair is a pixie cut hot but short and basically no drama in the cutting department. I can now go every 3 weeks which my hair kinda needs.
5. They do not take reservations which yes can be good and it can be bad but for me its great! i cant always schedule an appointment with my crazy busy fitness, work, social life, bf schedule. I love just dropping in and i have yet to have more than a half hour wait.
BONUS: It’s by a Colectivo so get yourself some coffee while you wait or maybe a lattee make it a hair date.

I love this place! While I enjoy a haircut, I also don’t really enjoy spending $ 25 each time. The Cutting Group offers a monthly haircut incentive cutting (haha) the cost to $ 15 as long as you come in once a month.
Ask for my friend Vanessa! She is an awesome stylist that will make certain that you are happy with your cut before you leave. She also recently gave me advice on a better & cooler way to style my hair for which I am grateful. :)
One thing I don’t like is that you cannot schedule an appointment ahead of time. I have waited close to two hours before for a cut. Luckily Alterra is right next door! Even though there is usually a wait, I always leave happy that I waited and with the quality of my haircuts.

I made the unfortunate decision to allow my boyfriend to cut my hair. After the awful experience, I limped to Cutting Group to get a fix. He had barely left enough hair for a decent pixie cut, but Shannon (I’m pretty sure that was her name) sympathetically and gently did what she could. The result is actually rather pleasant!
Shannon asked what my hair looked like before, what I wanted done, then offered some suggestions. She described everything she was doing. I also liked that she updated a waiting customer on the wait time, and immediately greeted him. (I’ve been that customer where the hair dressers assume you have been to the salon before, and «know how it works,» or are simply too immersed in the cuts they’re giving.)
I have avoided barber shops for years at a time because of awful cuts from hairdressers that did not listen to me, or simply had opposite tastes from me (thus the at-​home disaster). Even though this was a «make-​do» haircut, it is the most positive I have ever felt about a professional cut, and hairdresser experience! I will definitely be back. I hope all of their hair dressers are this good!

The haircut I got from cat turned out okay, although I feel like she didn’t really listen to what I had said I wanted, so the haircut turning out okay felt a bit lucky. Also when I came in both the stylists working were cutting hair, and they both just looked at me without saying anything, it was sort of an awkward experience overall.

I made a killing selling clothes at ReThreads this morning, and had money burning a hole in my pocket. And I had hair that has been in desperate need of a cut. So, I decided to stop in Cutting Group and see if they could help my hair regain its former bounce and swing.
I compare this place to a really nice upscale Cost Cutters– all they do is cut hair (no brows, no color, nada). But they use Bumble and Bumble products and my cut is seriously quality. My stylist was chatty and had hair similar to mine, so I ended up with a great cut and a wonderful style. I appreciate the fact she didn’t try to upsell me on products or anything like that.
Cutting Group is designed for people like myself that are trigger shy about forming a long-​term relationship with a stylist, and realize one morning that its been four months since your last haircut. I will be stopping in here again– I’m a fan.

The location itself is great. Central to the Riverwest neighborhood and has a pool table inside. However the haircut I received was awful. Instead of the 1 inch trim with a bit of thinning out that I wanted, she bluntly cut about 5 inches off. I have been to the east side cutting group and have always been happy with the cuts there. It seemed like she just gave the the cut she «thought» I should have instead of listening to what I really wanted.

I haven’t let anyone near my hair wielding a scissors in 6 years.

However, after Cheryl cut my hair this week, I’m in love.
The Riverwest location is in a former yarn store (Loop), which I think is super-​fitting (on a hippie vibe-​level.) It’s nestled in between Alterra and ReThreads, so if you have to wait, you’ve got some entertainment and caffeination, so important.
If you didn’t know, the Cutting Group is strictly cuts, no color– $ 25 flat rate. They feature strictly Bumble & Bumble products, so it smells awesome in there.
Onto the cut– Cheryl did an amazing job, considering how anxious I was. She knew exactly what I wanted and talked me through the whole process, all while maintaining a zen attitude. Awesome.
I totally recommend trying this location out, and ask for Cheryl. She knows what’s up.
