Ambassador Hotel

Unlike a few of these, we had a great experience here. Friendly staff, clean room, and the bar was nice. Only negative of the bar was happy hour drinks were $ 6-​$ 8. Parking was $ 20, reasonable for a hotel in the city and certainly much cheaper than a larger city would be. Free shuttle is a huge plus. Nice decorations in the old school Art Deco way. Not new school at all but it was nice. If you’re looking for brand new, not the place for you but I liked it! Would stay again.

I have no idea. Stayed here a few weeks ago and stayed in one of their «suites» well a suite is just a room that they made small by adding a hot tub that you couldn’t pay me to sit in.
The hotel is not located in the nicest area of town to begin with, my advice is to not leave anything of value in your car. That’s if you have any money left after paying 20 to park in their parking garage. Upon walking in our room, besides noticing how small the room was, it did not seem to be very clean.
In order to become the luxury hotel they are trying to be, they need to UPDATE. I’ve stayed at a lot of 4 – 5 star hotels in my time and to say this place is on par with a Holiday Inn Express, would be an insult to Holiday Inn Express.

The rather outdated hotel made it feel dirty. In face the room was just surface cleaned. There were stains on the furniture & things were dirty. The shower curtain wasn’t fastened and no shampoo. The cleaning lady didn’t acknowledge I spoke to her, didn’t smile and honestly couldn’t give 2 shits about us. No cribs and they charged for a fridge. There were no ice on the floor (although signs said there was). The shuttle didn’t come as expected & the front deck customer service skills were far below standards. Loved that parking was right next door and their very close to downtown location. Parking however was $ 20/​night. Very pricy.

Unfortunately, we stayed there on a night where there were several rude and obnoxious guests– nothing they could do about that.
Location is good. We were surprised to find out that parking was $ 20 and there really isn’t any street parking available. They helped us resolve the issue though.
The rooms are clean, though not impressive. The TV didn’t work very well. The bed was awkwardly placed in the corner of the room making it difficult for the person on the inside to get out of bed without making the other person move. The sheets had what looked like a few greese stains on them. The shower curtain had a tear in it. The light fixture was rusted. The towels were cheap, scratchy, and unabsorbant.
I would probably not stay here again. Like I said, staff was friendly and helpful. The hotel lobby is very cool. The room had just been poorly maintained, making it uninviting and uncomfortable. For nearly $ 200, I expected more.
Also, the floor below us smelled like pot.

I’ve stayed once before in a large kind size suite. We booked the room 3 months advance in advance but when we got there they didn’t have any king size rooms left. They did throw in a free parking pass, which wasn’t required the previous time we had stayed. Not worth the trouble given the neighborhood and their inability to honor reservations.

This is the worst customer service I have ever experienced in my whole life. Every time I called someone said something completely different. Said a room was available multiple times, then I called to reserve the room and they said they only had a room that sleeps 2 people left. Employees sound ghetto and are very rude to me every time I called. If I could put –5 stars I would.

For the price you pay this place is not worth it.

In town last week to see the «What’s Going On: Marvin Gaye Experience!» We enjoyed staying at our favorite Ambassador Hotel with it’s cool vibe, super chic 1920’s Art Deco design, ambiance, music and superior customer service! This hotel ALWAYS delivers the best experience. It is so beautiful to feel the old time charm. Great job to the entire staff and to the person who understands the importance of DETAIL in music, ambiance and décor!

Stayed one night at this location to attend a concert across the street. It seemed like the perfect location and was billed as a 4-​star hotel (in what universe, I do not know). While parking was convenient and the building has been updated, the good news ends there.
Our room was small, which is common in older hotels, so no problem. Unfortunately, there was hair in the bath tub, which I did not discover until the following morning when I went to shower. The pillows that come on the bed are like rocks, so it’s a good thing you can request alternate pillows. When I went to make coffee the following morning, I discovered that there was one coffee cup… although the room was reserved for two adults. There was also enough dust on the top of the coffee maker to write your initials in. So no coffee.
A while after we checked in, a group of drunken «frat boys» checked in. These boys were completely trashed — I can’t believe they were even allowed to check in at all. They tore up and down the hallway swearing profusely, rolling one another in somersaults up and down the hall, slamming their door and screaming. The front desk said someone would come and talk to them, but I don’t know that anyone ever did. About 20 minutes after I called down, they were at it again.
But the absolute worst was saved for last. After I had to wash someone else’s hair out of the tub in my room, I took a cold shower because there was no hot water.
When we checked out I explained all of the stay’s events to a lady at the front desk. In the middle of an apathetic «sorry about that» response, the lady’s cell phone rang, and she answered it, walked away. There was another woman at the desk but she was also on the phone dealing with some sort of issue. There was quite a line forming behind me, and we just looked at each other incredulously, wondering if this lady was coming back and if anyone was going to check us out. When the employee returned after several minutes, she said she was sorry again and that I would receive a credit… but I have yet to see it.
Make no mistake, this place is a dump with a fresh coat of paint. If you’re going to see a show at the Rave and don’t care about what kind of place you stay in, this place is for you. If you’re an adult with standards, spend the extra money on a decent hotel and a cab.

We were next door to the Ambassador at an Air BNB and someone recommend Happy Hour at the bar. Woo-​Hoo! Vintage cocktails were full price for the first one and 1920’s price for the second. That made my excellent Cosmo $ 12 and .65!
The lounge is art deco and charming. It was crowded at Happy Hour for good reason. There were televisions which did diminish the atmosphere. Oh well.
On top of that, appetizers were half off. We made dinner of them.
Our bill for 4 cocktails and 3 appetizers was $ 36 plus tip. Next visit to Milwaukee I am booking in at the hotel and going to Happy Hour!

Really enjoyed the classic Art Deco beauty of the hotel and the uplifting music that transported me to a different time. Wonderful stay and we were treated so well with free parking and a free upgrade for the first of the new year. Yes! Thank you!

The Ambassador has great appeal. It’s a beautiful boutique hotel with a lot of class. My parents and I stayed for a wedding that we had in Milwaukee.
Not only was the customer service excellent (Mary is the best and helped us out a bunch!), but the hotel itself was very nice. The interior design was very pleasant and the rooms were cute and modern. Our room had a large King sized bed and a pull out couch, making it the perfect room for a family. The parents get to feel like royalty, and the kids can enjoy sleeping on something other than a roll away bed! It also had a jacuzzi and big screen TV.
We were given free parking on this occasion, which was great. $ 20 for parking though is a steal! Chicago is much worse.
The hotel had a free shuttle service! This was awesome because Milwaukee does have concerts often, so you don’t have to worry about paying for parking or a cab.
We also got breakfast downstairs. I like how they use an all you can eat service, but it isn’t a buffet. The food was excellent and we left content.
I would definitely stay here again if I ever needed a place in Milwaukee. Highly recommend!

Came for a wedding. Arrived at 330PM, checked in and enjoyed walking around the old timey lobby. Elevator doors are fun, but elevators are slow. Don’t be in a hurry to get downstairs!
Our room was clean and had a nice TV. Wifi is free and reasonably fast. A minibar with trip wires was not pleasant — it would have been nice to have somewhere to save leftovers. We went for a drink in the lobby bar, bartender was pleasant but distracted. Fun stained glass images on the lobby washroom doors.
The saving grace is the shuttle. They leave every hour on the ½ hour, and pick you up whenever. We took it to the Pritzlaff for a wedding, they picked us up there. There was a problem with Sprint’s phone system so we could not call the driver directly but had to call the front desk and the woman ran to catch the bus so he could pick us up. Drivers know a lot about the neighborhood (of Marquette U) and places to go downtown. We took the shuttle again after 800PM to dinner at the lakefront, and got a ride back in the rain at 1100PM. Convenient and free.
To all those who complain about $ 20 to park in the garage — ever stay in a Chicago hotel? $ 20 would be a steal.
Ate at the lobby restaurant Envoy for breakfast with a great chunky corned beef hash. Wife had a roasted veggie thing– yum. Good coffee. Kitchen kind of slow after some big tables arrived, but server was pleasant. Managers and such helped to fill water and serve coffee, I like to see that.
I would stay again. Nice place.

I wish I could live here!
My boyfriend and I were coming up from Chicago for a wedding this past weekend. Church was at 2pm, check in was at 4pm. Eep, not going to be sitting in my dress and hair all done in Labor Day weekend traffic. Called the hotel to see if we could check in at noon and the gentleman on the phone said it was no problem. He also remembered our conversation upon check in. Woo!
Unbeknownst to me, the church was between the hotel and reception. Location couldn’t have been any better.
The place itself is beautiful with an old Hollywood vibe all around. The bathrooms in the lobby were adorable, the elevators were so old and had such character. Our stay was absolutely amazing, would definitely come back.

Room was good, bar was decent, lobby was ok and staff were friendly. I did not try the restaurant. Close to pretty much anything down town. There is a hopping club across the road that looked fun. The staff was very nice and helpful. The elevator might as well had a hand pulley it move so slow and was so small. I just used the stairs.

The first thing that stands out about this place is that it is in a really bad neighborhood. I live in Los Angles and I have been through my share of bad neighborhoods — this place beats all of them! Example: we walked 1 block and, while we were crossing the street, we were cut off by a guy who stuck his head out of his car window, pointed his finger at me like it was a gun, and said «boom». Ugh!
When we checked in, 4:00 PM on August 18^th, the two guys working the front desk were not very welcoming or accommodating. We were told that we would have to pay $ 20 to park our car in the parking garage. When we asked if there were other options, we were told that we could call the city and tell them that we wanted to park on the street. I asked if they could give us a better deal on the parking rate and they flat out refused.
We got our room keys and went to our room. We tried the keys and they didn’t work. We went back downstairs and told them the key didn’t work and the guy tells me that they had been de-​magnetized and basically accused us of keeping the card keys too close to our phones. You would think that they would apologize for the inconvenience, but they tried to blame us for the keys not working. We wanted to check out and find another hotel in a better neighborhood with nicer staff, but they refused to give us a refund on the room — so we stayed.
We get in the room and, like others who reviewed, we couldn’t figure out how the lights worked — not knowing that we had to first turn on the master switch by the front door. Why didn’t they tell us?!?
The beds were comfortable, but one of the comforters had blood stains on it (see photo). Gross!
When I tried to plug in our phones to charge them, only two outlets worked. One was for the lamp, and the other was for the TV. When I looked behind the nightstand, it looked like it hadn’t been cleaned back there in years (see photo).
The only reason that I am giving this place two stars is because when we checked out the next morning, the gentleman that checked us out, apologized profusely for the problems we had and gave us a discount on the room rate and waived the parking fee. Thank you for that! This man is a gem.
Bottom line: there are better choices out there for the price.

Nice place. The room was exactly what I expected. Great price for a quick overnight stay in MKE. It seemed the air conditioning wasn’t working, so we had to open the window.
Great location– even though not much is around the hotel, quick walk to the Pabst Mansion, Marquette U, or someone used to walking, my buddy and I walked the entire way to the Pabst Brewery and downtown. Easy über ride as well.
The coffeeshop in the hotel was good but were out of a lot of items. The bar was great but the service from the bartender was to be desired.
Overall, if Im in MKE again, I’d stay again.

So many nice touches about this place. Lovely Art Deco original décor and a great jazz Pandora station in the lobby to match. Fantastic, accommodating help at the front desk, in the bar, the café– thank you! We loved the roominess in our room too

I love this hotel! My girlfriend and I always stay here when visiting Milwaukee. We really enjoy the art-​deco style of both the common areas and the guest rooms. The people working the front desk are always friendly. We always enjoy chatting with the friendly bartenders and the food is REALLY REALLY good! Being that this is located in Milwaukee the draft beer selection is solid and the grilled cheese is one of the best I’ve ever had.
They have a free shuttle to run you to and from downtown when you need. Really helps save some cash on taxis. Whenever you’d like to be picked up just call the hotels front desk and schedule the pickup.
This will continue to be our #1 spot to stay when visiting Milwaukee!
