History

Established in 2012.

More than 35 years ago, Larry Martinek, creator of the Mathnasium Method, was inspired to find a better way to teach math. As a teacher in public and private schools, as well as a father to a mathematically gifted son, Nic, Larry possessed a comprehensive view of math education. In his work with both stellar and struggling math programs, he identified a common theme in math instruction — a vast disconnect between students learning skills and the curriculum they were expected to master.

Larry to the ti heart and made it his mission to teach children of all ages a way that math makes sense to them. He opened the first Mathnasium Learning Center in 2002 in Los Angeles. Today, Mathnasium is a global franchise, with more than 550 locations worldwide.

Business Owner

Joyce Ng discovered her passion for teaching while working at a children’s science camp during the school holidays. She graduated from the National University of Singapore with second upper class honors in Chemistry. She taught Secondary Math classes in Singapore for 3 years. After moving to America, she started work at the Mathnasium of Rockwall-​Heath, Texas. As the lead instructor there for four years, she has personally experienced how the Mathnasium Method™ helps math make sense to kids. In addition, she received her certification to teach high school math and chemistry in the State of Texas and have substitute taught in the Rockwall Independent School District for a year. She loves reading and traveling in her free time. With her extensive experience with math tutoring and the Mathnasium MethodTM, she is happy to be able the serve the needs of the Milpitas community.
