Intrepid Thread

I have never felt so unwelcome in a quilt shop before. And I’ve been in hundreds! My husband even commented that we must have interrupted something. It’s no wonder this shop is closing despite having great fabrics. It was so bad that I will not even shop the online store.

Great selection of modern fabrics. I’ve been to the store a couple of times. The website lists a great selection of their fabrics.

I love this quilt shop. It’s not the nearest to me, but it’s my favorite in the Bay area. Julie, the owner, has great taste in fabric. Fair prices and good sales. And she also carries Aurifil thread and knits and rayons for garment sewing in fresh, modern prints. The store is clean and neat, too. I never feel like I’m going to have an allergy attack from dust or be buried under an avalanche of bolts, like in some other older places. Definitely worth the trip.

Excellent fabric prices! Mostly $ 10 and under per yard, great brands and modern choices. Definitely worth the drive!

Went there this week for the first time to buy fabrics for a modern colorful baby quilt. The selection and prices were excellent. Better yet, I got great guidance on whether or not I had to prewash the fabrics before cutting and products to use to keep them color fast. Best fabric store I’ve ever been to in my many decades of sewing.

Highly recommend! I heard about this shop from my sewing club and finally had the chance to check it out today. Don’t let the modest building exterior fool you, this shop is warm, inviting + full of terrific fabrics. You’ll want to settle in and stay awhile. Everyone in the store was really helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable. I enjoy reading sewing and quilting blogs that are more modern in style and this shop brings that online experience to life. They even had some displays made from free online tutorials. I love that touch! Prices were super competitive + they have a great sale fabric section. Can’t wait to attend a class there soon!

This place is a hidden gem!!!
I was overwhelmed with the beautiful and high quality fabrics they had. Every design was absolutely gorgeous! They had so many different patterns to choose from, I was too indecisive to choose one. Honestly, had I known about this place before I purchased fabric, I would have definitely came here and went crazy buying left and right.
The customer service was awesome! I definitely am going to recommend this place to friends and family, and I most definitely will be back for more!!! Intrepid threads is a true treasure :))))

Have been looking high/​low for the perfect seat cushion for my gray metal chairs to give some color and flair. Bought anthropology colorful folded chairs bc they were so unique and colorful but the chairs themselves were so unstable. All pre made cushions cost $ 25+ and they were fugly. Found intrepid thread and oh man did they have tons of fabric that were modern and unique, nothing you’d be able to find at those chain fabric stores. The fabrics I chose were imported from Japan and look fabulous. Gave me the umph that I have been wanting. Highly recommended.

The store has great collection. Being a first time quilter, I had a design in my hand but didn’t know exactly the colors, fabrics or length of the all pieces that I need. The owner very helpful, sweet and so nice! Their customer service is awesome and prices are reasonable.
They even told me about the quilting class they conduct and I started attending the class. I’m almost done with my first quilt and thanks to Intrepid Thread.

My mother and I came here a few weeks ago on a whim. We were visiting a nearby relative and happened upon this out of the way shop. They have an amazing collection of modern fabrics and seem to carry entire lines. This really helps when you are a quilter.
We got there right as they open the doors and all 3 people working were incredibly helpful. My mother mentioned she was interested in doing a quilt entirely out of polka dot fabrics of which they had a huge selection. By the time all was said and done we had pulled at least 30 bolts to see what went with what. We apologized for making such a mess of their cutting table but they said they were having just as much fun as we were! Now that is customer service.
We ended up buying ¼ yard cuts of about 20 fabrics and they cut and folded them without any complaints. I have found that many quilt shops frown on small cuts especially when there are so many. All in all I couldn’t have been happier with this shop and the staff. The one complaint I have is that their system for checking out can be a bit slow but do not let this deter you from visiting this shop. It is well worth a trip and if you are interested in modern fabrics this is the shop for you.

Fabulous help and customer service; the prices are the same as the chains; good cute selection of fabric for quilts, but you could use them for other purposes.
Support the local stores (when you can), specially with such a wonderful staff!

Great modern fabric shop. Beautiful selection of cotton fabrics, reasonably priced that can also be purchased online. Love the classroom, supplies and Annette’s classes. Shop owner has a fabulous blog and has a huge following. Sign up for newsletter to get a heads up for specials.

When I was considering moving to the Bay Area, I stopped in to this shop since I had shopped with them online before. I just have to say that Julie (the owner) is one of the nicest women you will ever have the pleasure to meet! In fact, she was so welcoming I just jumped in her car with her and went to a quilt guild meeting right then! That is not my usual.
Since then, I have moved close to this shop and and I am so happy I did. There’s a great selection of modern fun fabric and patterns. The staff is helpful and friendly. It’s clean and well organized. By far my favorite fabric shop in the Bay Area.

Nice variety of fabric. I had been searching for a certain color of blue and had been to many of the quilt shops in my area with no luck. I was starting to get worried that I was going to have a add a border that just didn’t blend well. I found this quilt shop on Unilocal and decided to give it a try. Staff was so helpful and she found me 5 fabrics that went perfectly. She cut me 5 fat quarters to take home and help me decide. I was thrilled! Lots of variety in this store. I will be back. Also, the store is more convenient to get to than the other quilt stores since it’s located in Milpitas and l live in Evergreen.

So happy to have heard about this awesome fabric/​quilt shop! Love the fresh selection– every color of chevron print in different colors, modern collections, with some staples to my fabric stash! Definitely going back!

Having just read an email from a fabric distributor that their designs are randomly discontinued and that they could not guaranty any sort of ongoing availability should I decide to manufacture my products with their fabrics, I was literally cursing on my way to this store. Once I got their the staff was super friendly and they told me which patterns were staples from the vary company that wasn’t interested in my business. A clear case that store owners are more knowledgable than some product employees. More over the owner told me that if I made anything from fabric bought in her store she would help me promote it to her 4,000 plus fans on her blog. Since starting my project 1 month ago I have easily been to over 20 fabric stores between San Jose and Seattle. This one stands out, if I could give them a 6^th start I would, go there!

Have been to this shop twice now, and I’m very impressed. So much good fresh modern stuff! It’s small, but I like that in a quilt shop because it’s easily brows-​able. The fabric really seems to be their first priority, so I didn’t feel like I had to wade past machines, be confronted by a wall of needless tools, or accosted by a gazillion spools of thread. There are a few well-​chosen books, and patterns. Very knowledgeable, friendly staff. So many gorgeous solids too! I’m ecstatic to have a new favorite quilt shop within driving distance! Oh, and they’ll cut fat quarters! just all around awesome!

This shop is amazing. I’m new to quilting and discovered the Intrepid Thread online first, and loved the handwritten note she included with my order (and the two surprise charm squares!). Juliemade me feel welcome as soon as I walked into the store. The selection was great and very tidy, and she gave generous cuts of fabric. I truly wish that I lived closer so I could visit more often, I can certainly see myself as a regular. I’ll stick with the online store in the meanwhile, shipping was prompt. Only good things to say about the Intrepid Thread!

I’ve been a fan of Intrepid Thread’s online shop for quite a while, so was very happy when she decided to open a brick & mortar store. She carries full lines of many modern fabrics, as well as Aurifil thread, books and notions. I regularly drive the 40 minutes from Santa Cruz just to visit.
