Established in 2011.

78s, Lps and 45s. We buy them all. Jazz, Blues, Funk, Psych, Punk, Hip Hop, Country, Reggae, Afrobeat, and everything else. There is great music in every genre from every corner of the world. We want to hear it on Vinyl and Shellac.

Revilla Grooves and Gear is the labor of love of Darren Revilla. For years, as DJ Darren, he spun Vinyl in the bars and clubs of New Jersey and NYC. A huge collection of records was amassed. Hip Hop Twelve inches, Rare Funk records, impossible to find Jazz Lp’s, Blues 78s, records from India to Africa, all found their way into the stacks. With so many great records on the wall, Darren decided to sell off a few to share the music and make a little extra cash. Ten years later an online business was launched.

Along with his love of classic wax and shellac, Darren found himself with an ever expanding collection of vintage audio gear. Victor Victrolas, Tube amps, vintage turntables, even a Jukebox at one time or another resided in the collection. New pieces of equipment were always sought.

Revilla Grooves and Gear is the online home for

buying, sharing and selling the equipment needed to make old records sound beautiful.

I’ve established myself as somewhat of a regular since finding out about the place about two months ago now. I was in there not yesterday and wound up spending $ 150…Used Record stores are usually hit or miss, but I can’t help myself from spending an hour plus in there sifting through latest arrivals and going back and picking up the ones I left last time. The store is neat and clean and the records are well cared for. I’ve been fairly impressed with the quality most of the time. Shop owner Darren is accommodating and returns are never a problem. My drive to get there is about 45 minutes, but it’s so worth it. Recommended.

This is exactly the record store you want to go in. First of all, the store was closed on the particular day we went and he opened the store for just us. Secondly, he’s got the cleanest records I have ever seen in a record store in 25+ years. Knowledgeable, friendly, well informed, and reasonable prices, this is a record shop I will be coming back to again and again. The bins are well organized (not so full that you can’t even dig through them), and the selection is really top notch. A great store, not just for the area, but for the entire Tri-​State area. If you’re an audiophile, there is a ton of vintage audio gear for you to bug out on. They are completely knowledgeable in that area as well. This is exactly the record store I want to walk into any time I go record shopping anywhere in the world, but never do. If you’re serious about vinyl records and vintage audio, this is your shop.

This store is tops! Unbeatable selection of jazz, soul, rock, etc. all neatly & thoughtfully organized for comfortable searching. As a shopkeeper, Darren is a warm, friendly, musical encyclopedia, & has turned me on to lots of great music, he’s got a sixth sense for knowing what you will like! Really incredible variety, everything is in great shape, no beat up junk. Turntables & receivers as well, this is one off the best shops in NJ, hands down !

Incredible resource for central Jersey and beyond, and the best business to open in Milltown in more than 20 years. As a long time albeit part time resident since ’85, I can’t remember another small business opening with this sort of buzz. Record buyers and collectors from all over are starting to come to town to see our new gem in town. ‘No-​Junk Darren’ has a great reputation amongst real vinyl-​heads, and has a shop equally accessible to newcomers and young adults; perfect mix!

Revilla Groove & Gear hits all the marks for a fantastic record store: well curated inventory of albums, very reasonable prices, a friendly and accommodating proprietor and a clean environment where everything is accessible. It’s really quite a pleasure to sift through the crates at this store because you are guaranteed to find something for yourself. And if you don’t, you should come back the following week (or even the following day) because Revilla is constantly putting out new inventory.
Whether you are a jazz hound, break digger, rock enthusiast, gearhead, or just starting a collection and only have 10 bucks to spend, you will walk out with something good. I highly recommend a visit to Revilla Grooves– it’s the best new offering to the digging world.

This is the kind of LP store that collectors dream of finding: Clean premises, excellent demo gear (AKG headphones? We’re definitely not in Manhattan!), interesting oddities, tons of vintage used tube and SS gear (Marantz, Yamaha, Prima Luna, Audio Prism) and a selection of LPs that is second to none, and thankfully NOT PICKED OVER! What really makes it a pleasure is owner Darren Revilla, who is friendly, generous, and as helpful as he can possibly be.
I was tipped off by a friend who posts on FaceBook’s Jazz Vinyl Lovers that this small store in a small town was the bomb. He was so right. I made the trip from Manhattan (NJT to New Brunswick, than a $ 12 Über ride) specifically to check out Darren’s mint condition Japanese LPs, which included titles from Blue Note, Prestige, Savoy, Vee Jay and Riverside. Prices were very good, between $ 20 and $ 35, and condition was mint. These LPs were unplayed! Apparently Darren bought tons of LPs and some extremely high end audio gear from a guy who bought the merchandise then kept in his basement, untouched. I was floored, my wallet opened, I was happy.
The catalog stock was also excellent, with plenty of unusual rock, soundtrack, contemporary classical, Latin, International and jazz including rare LP titles from Dorothy Ashby, Stan Getz, Miles Davis, a Rufus Speedy Jones LP (which I nabbed) and many more that I had to leave behind.

Revilla Grooves reminds you that deals can be had even today, and travelling away from the major urban hubs is definitely worth the trip if you’re lucky enough to find a class act like Darren Revilla’s Revilla Grooves.

I stopped into Revilla Grooves and Gear this afternoon, it was easy to find, right on Main Street, and there is free on-​street parking, I got a space right in front of his door.
The store is decorated beautifully with a carpet and a love seat, framed posters that are for sale hang on the walls. And that’s nice but I was here to look thru records and not ambiance (but it is nice!).
The albums are easily arranged by genre, first thing I saw was Jazz, there was a customer looking thru the Metal and Punk, I saw Soul/R&B and Soundtracks and then I saw what I was looking for, Rock. All of their albums are in good quality poly bags which I always like. Most artists with a catalog of releases have their own section, the Arthur Lee I bought was under Love. For other albums they are separated by the alphabet. He also has a few new arrivals sections which is where I found the Link Wray I purchased. The quality of the records, because after all they are used, was remarkably good. You can tell Darren takes the time to purchase only quality records for resale and also that he runs them thru a record cleaning system before he sells them. I’d say the two I picked up were near mint, I only saw two that were in off condition and he had them clearly marked as ‘rough’ and they were appropriately priced.
As for the equipment there was quite a selection of high end speakers, a few turntables and amps too. I know records but not so much equipment so I’ll leave that for others to comment on.
Darren does use social media and posts photos of recent arrivals of both records and equipment on both Instagram and Facebook. All in all it was a good experience visiting Revilla Grooves and Gear and I’ll be back.
