This store has great service! They sell books, movies and such. It’s actually the best place to get the kdramas or cdramas since it’s so cheap. They also repair computers too. I brought my laptop and computer there to fix numerous of times and it didn’t take long. Fair priced as well. It’s a great place to visit.

Came here as a last minute resort because I refused to pay Geek Squad at Best Buy $ 200, which they quoted me, to repair my Dell laptop that suddenly didn’t have Internet access. The guy here at Soyodo was very professional, fast service and charged me $ 60 to reload the Windows and resolve the issue of me not being able to access internet. I was so relieved, and so happy to get my laptop alive and working again!!!
Definitely coming back here for my future computer issues & repairs. And I highly recommend this place. He’s not out to rip you off, like Geek Squad, and he knows his business!

Remember good ol’ counterfeit Chinese movies? Video CDs? Those you might have found at some of the funny looking stores in Chinatown? Or at the more crowded shopping arcades in Hong Kong run by gangsters?

Yep those were the late 1990s. Low quality silver disc pressed MPEG-​2 video cd movies. «New» movies were captured by those bootleg pirate$ sneaking in video cameras, filming in secret from the audience, capturing cigarette smoke, chatter, and laughter. You pay $ 1.50 per in Hong Kong (slightly more expensive here) and you risk getting crap.
Fast foward to the present, mass produced movies from China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Korea are in DVD format… in fact the keyword is DVD-​9.
Yes it still looks cheap, but a lot more professional, with packaging and boxing, versus CD sleeves and laserjet printed artwork.
And now it is no longer politically correct to call them bootlegs or counterfeits. They are now officially «DVD pressings from China», «Chinese imports», or just «made in China». And they have flooded the hell out of Chinatown. This is one of the reasons why many stores that once sold official Hong Kong and Taiwanese import pressings of music and DVDs have closed down… remember Man’s Trading Company/​Man Chi in Chinatown that was also a wholesaler hub? Gone. Ditto for a few shops that did similar things in Richmond and Sunset.
It’s a Mainland world now. Out with the official, and in with the unofficial that is now the norm. And cheaper too. Maybe the unofficial is now legit. Who knows, who cares.
Soyodo is a chain that has locations in Southern California, and about a handful or less in Northern California.
This fairly new Millbrae location looks like a very neat store. Shelves of the hottest newest DVD movies, Canto and Mando pop music, karaōke, concert DVDs, and TV dramas (Mainland Chinese, Korean with Chinese subtitles), books that look exactly like the ones sold in a bookstore in Mainland China, as well as magazines, stationary, and the ahem obligatory back corner of adult porno DVDs, separated by curtains.
A shade under $ 6 for a Hong Kong and Taiwanese movie (not the ones from behind the curtains), or $ 20 if you get 4. It’s quite the bargain considering the generally disappointing bull$hit Hollywood puts out that is not worth the price of an admission ticket, versus the really high quality and entertaining great movies coming out of Hong Kong and Taiwan.

— Ip Man (Donnie Yen — a must)
— Ip Man 2 (Donnie Yen, Sammo Hung — another effin must)

Lots of action flicks, but some potential doozies as well. Some of the romance drama films look quite bleak and depressing… oh what’s this… a film featuring Eric Tsang who’s also the poster boy for Kee Wah Bakery? And he’s one of 5+ guys in a storyline about lusting after young hot women in bikini’s? Didn’t he do like 30 movies in the past about this? Should I blow $ 5 on this $hit or get another kung fu flick?

As the previous reviewer says, this is the place in Millbrae to go if you want a good selection of cheap from China (you can guess the meaing of that last bit) $ 5.99 dvd’s. Very good selection, comparable to San Francisco stores of this type. They also have moderate selection of music cd’s that are also surely from China.

I’m a bit wary about posting this review as this makes me a bit of a criminal however, this is such a deal… I have to spread the word for all you K-​drama, Chinese Drama, Japanese drama lovers…
Soyodo sells books (Chinese), magazines, stationary, music CD’s, DVDS of Chinese, Korean and Japanese regions. They also service computers too.
Most DVD’s are only $ 5.95 or you can mix and match for a 4 for $ 20 deal. I went for the deal and got 2 Chinese movies and 2 K-​dramas. I suspected that these were bootlegged copies and was concerned about the quality of the dvds. Staff was kind enough to ease my fears and play the dvd in the store so I could see for myself that the quality was actually pretty good. Most importantly, the English subtitles were actually interpreted really well so you can actually understand the movie.
I more or less spent the whole weekend glued to my couch watching K-​dramas. I will definitely be back to purchase more movies for moi…

VERY VERY helpful and polite.
First time there, brougt my computer there and met mike. He helped us right away, diagnosed every possibility. He explained what was going on with the computer so we were aware. I’m a well knowledged computer user and he was able to provide more info that I wasn’t even aware of.
Very reasonable pricing. almost like a steal with other computer repair shops.

sidenote lesson on patience — -when i first entered the shop, noyone was there except for Myron… he was very busy on the phone & computer. he looked up but didn’t really say anything…
i’m standing there for some long minutes & about to explode for lack of a acknowledgement/​service… what i didn’t realize is that he remembered me from our junior high school days… just kinda sizing me up…
i chose to be nice & engaged him in conversation… what a small world, catch up with a old friend, extra services done for free, a nice situation.
i came back the next week to pick up the computer & tried to give him a 20.00 tip for lunch & he refused… a humble nice all round professional… thx again Myron
