I’m lazy when it comes to my health. I don’t remember the last time I went to get my eyes checked, but leaving my glasses in Hong Kong was the perfect catalyst to getting it done. Working full time doesn’t make it easier to go for appointments so I was super happy when they could fit me in for a Saturday. Located in probably the busiest part of town, it’s rather easy to look for a parking spot. Appointments take from 40 mins up to an hour, so any of the 2 hour parking spots will work.
The office itself is sleek and clean. Very organized with different types of frames placed around for patients to try on. Once I walked in, I was greeted right away by one of the staff members, Nick (who is quite easy on the eyes. Holla fo’ a dollaaaa). Since I’m a new patient to their office, I had to fill out some forms but nothing too complicated and the whole process was very easy and straightforward. I also didn’t have to wait long to start on my exam, which is a major plus in my books because I really hate when doctors keep their patients waiting.
Dr. Chang was awesome. She was very thorough and answered all the different questions I had. I’ve been with my previous optometrist for the last 15 years so it was very nice to get a new and different perspective.

I never wore glasses until I was 20 years old!
I have horrible astigmatism so I decided it was time for contact lenses.
Well I initially was fitted in Florida (where I went to college and grad school) and my contacts were so uncomfortable.
They felt like sand paper!
I thought I would never be able to wear contacts comfortably and not to mention I couldn’t even see that well in my contact lenses!
Then I came to this Optometrist office — man oh man I was saved.
It did take multiple visits — I’d say about 5+ visits for me to get my prescription and contact lenses 100% on track, but it was worth it.
The doctor was so diligent about checking material, the way the contacts fit on my eye, how sharply it was fixing my astigmatism — I mean she really knew her stuff!
They also take my Blue Shield of California Insurance — through MES, which was even more of a plus!
I highly recommend this office! Its no, Clear Optometry (San Mateo) with some fancy FroYo and a Coffee Bar, but what mattered is they fixed my horrible vision and were able to get my prescription almost perfect.

I love Dr. Chang and her office! My family and I have been coming here for years and it’s still my favorite place to get my eyes checked. Everyone is very accommodating when making appointments, there is never a long wait, and there’s always a good/​welcoming energy in the office (which is important). Dr. Chang is thorough and talks me through the whole appointment, telling me what she’s checking for along the way.
There’s a new doctor that does eye check-​ups too when Dr. Chang is not there. I didn’t get her name but she is definitely knowledgable and welcoming as well. My appointment went great and I wouldn’t mind going to her for my next appt if Dr. Chang is not there.
What makes this office really special is how much they pay attention to details and offer assistance. One year when I was picking out new glasses, one of the office people, Nick, spent nearly an hour helping me find the right pair! No other office will treat patients/​customers the same. Dr. Chang’s office is definitely the best one I’ve been to!

Dr. Chang has been my optometrist for as long as I can remember. I remember when I was younger and I was nervous when getting my eyes checked and her and her staff there would always keep my nerves calm. Dr. Chang definitely knows what she’s doing; she’s informative, comprehensive, and precise. I appreciate her and her staff’s efforts to bring the best service to their customers and their eye care. :)

I’ve been going to Dr. Chang my whole life. They remodeled recently, so the new office is really clean and modern-​looking. They have a nice mom-​and-​pop feel since most the staff has been there for a loooong time.
Dr. Chang is the best! I once had a painful piece of dirt (felt like a huge rock) stuck in my eye. I was on campus at school (Berkeley) and saw someone at the Optometry school there. They said a piece of dirt must’ve been under my contacts, causing irritation, but was no longer there. So they gave me some drops, which they said would soothe my eyes and make the pain eventually go away. The pain did not go away! Since I couldn’t stand the pain I went in to see Dr. Chang for an emergency check up. Immediately, she found that there was a speck of dirt in my eye causing the irritation and cotton swabbed it away. Darn the student optometrists at Berkeley grrrr! Immediately following, the pain disappeared. I was incredibly thankful and relieved.
ALSO: I really like the sunglasses they carry, they’re always super trendy. They also carry my favorite kate spade glasses as well as numerous other brand names. The quality is way better than what’s offered online at those cheapo sites.
ALSOO: I really like that they have TWO offices (one also in Belmont), which gives me the option of going to either and shopping around the glasses at the Belmont office.
ALSOOO: They take VSP so yay! And they’re open Saturday so yay! I feel like not many optometry offices are open Saturday, and that’s the main day I have time off from work to get a check up.

I have been going to this place for a few years now and I can honestly say I like going here. Super friendly staff that makes the experience great! Doctors are great as well and very efficient! :)

The staff is super friendly and super helpful and are willing to work with you and your speific needs. They provide a welcomming enviroment. The doctors here are also very kind and they definetly get the jod done. You wont be dissapointed! And the optotical technician NICK is sooo kind/​friendly and patient and all the good stuff i mentioned before (:

Dr. Patricia Chang’s office actually employs various optometrists. I usually see Dr. Jocelyn Liao for my eye exams and I’ve been going to her for years. I was told she was still on maternity leave so last Saturday I met with Dr. Le in the Belmont office who was extremely thorough and nice. She read all of my history files and asked specific questions about the comfort in my contact lenses.
Dr. Jocelyn Liao is opening up her own office soon in San Mateo. It’s called «Winking Bee» and grand opening is estimated April 2012. I can’t wait to check out her new space and will be transferring my files over to her when she’s up and running.

While the OD was very friendly and patient, the business practices of this place are questionable. My insurance covers a basic eye exam for glasses. I was told to return for my contact lenses fitting follow up and complete my eye exam at that time, which I agreed to. I paid my co-​payment and then was told that in order for them to release my new contact lenses prescription that I would have to pay an additional $ 100. If I want my old prescription, it would be$ 50. WTF??? So let’s see, the government requires that eye prescriptions be valid for a 1 year period only so that people will have no choice but to order eyewear for their most current prescription! This place is backwards! I left w/​o returning to do the rest of my eye exam, so I basically wasted my annual eye exam and copayment at this place. I went to For Your Eyes Only on Broadway and Burlingame and got an updated contact lens prescription for $ 35.
Stay away from this shady, greedy place!!!

Dr. Chang is great! I just had my basic exam with her and she was very professional, informative and friendly. She was also very patient to answer all of my inquiries and even gave me plenty of advices.
The staff is also very friendly and accommodating!

All the doctors are really nice there. Great selection on the latest style glasses. If you want to see another color of the frames you like– they will order it for you to try out before ordering. If you need an adjustment– you can drop in and Sarah will help you out.
