The people reviewing this store must be employees of the competition or spoiled trust fund babies. I’ve only started coming to this store about a month ago but find it clean albeit a bit old and the employees to be helpful when needed. Maybe they’ve changed managers recently so that’s why my experience has been good. Sure you can pay a lot more at one of the«whole paycheck» stores(I loved that comment and will continue to use it). But if you are like me and are looking for good value with commensurate service and like to keep more of your hard earned money then this is the only store for you in Mill Valley.

Worst grocery store I’ve ever been too. I try to be positive and find a silver lining but here there is no hope. We went to the deli where one would hope to find a friendly employee who would assist you with your sandwich needs. The man was not friendly and was doing anything to convince us not to order a sandwich including trying to sell us pre made sandwiches, we took the bait until he told us he only had one when we wanted two. We then decided to order from the sandwich bar, where he was angry and outwardly disdainful towards us. At the time we were the only ones in line with no one behind us, but the attitude continued. My husband and I were going to add to the order when more attitude came, and I decided I’ll just make my own sandwiches from the lunch meat area. The store was overall nice but disheveled. Maybe this store could learn from food prep and having enough staff for a Saturday.

Be sure to buy the green bananas. You don’t want them over ripe by the time you manage to get out of this black hole. They have decided that 2 checkers is always enough for any number of customers. They also«pass the stavings on labor on to you» by requiring that you bag your own groceries. Or if you want the full unpaid intern experience you can battle the self check-out robots constantly insisting that yes, you are using your own bag. So if you have a free afternoon and need some groceries, spend 3 – 4 hours trying to shop at the Safeway in Strawberry.

I try note to be negative or write negative reviews, however; multiple poor experiences from the same person/location are unacceptable. The front end manager«Mammy» fails to make eye contact, fails to great or even say hello, and comes across as rude and unprofessional. Not once or twice, but consistently. Shame on Safeway for not monitoring and/or training their people on customer service. I’ll be giving my money to «Nugget» grocery going forward. It might cost a couple extra dollars, but their employees treat you as a valued guest. I do not recommend this Safeway location.

I love Safeway’s prices but not too happy about their customer service. It’s always insane checking out but today is the worst I’ve seen it. There are only two cashiers working during a busy time, which happens. However, there are no other employees around to help guide lines. It’s a mad house.

I called 25 minutes before closing and the pharmacist placed me on hold only to tell me that she was alone and had customers waiting and that she could not fill the prescription in time for a sick little boy. She dismissed my husband who was waiting there at the counter and sent him away without a prescription. She clearly has no idea about customer service or empathy for her customers. On top of that she had accepted the prescription on their system, so now we had to pay cash at the nearest 24 hour pharmacy!

Hey prices are OK, but I strongly object to having to spend at least 30 or 40 minutes each week going through the product list and clicking on each individual item that I want to get the lower price on. It’s not really a discount, but it is the price that you should be paying. Anyone who has half a brain knows that the discounted price is actually the regular price. I just hate playing the game but if I don’t then my bills for food are 20% to 30% more than they should be! Also, I really hate it when I’m forced to buy items like nuts, dry fruits, etc. in Plastic Boxes some of which are so low to the floor that I fall over bending that low. Please dump the Plastic and go back to the great selfserve bins where we can buy the exact amount we want. Safeway is causing such a great problem with the amount of Plastic Waste your creating. You Are Killing the Planet. Please Stop! Please Mr. Safeway cut off the game so I don’t have to waste 30 minutes each week! We’re not all stupid.

I really avoid Safeway but sometimes I just make the trip. I tried to find the hours of the pharmacy but the Safeway website is a horrific mess with endless links to things that most people care less about. It would be nice if they had basic useful info on their website. Just terrible!

Has the health department checked on this store? I’ve never been more frustrated with a grocery store before. The cashiers are so rude and seem demoralized. There is a management problem here. I was there yesterday in the morning and there was a strange smell around the meat department, only one cashier open with a long line of customers waiting. I was still being very patient. But I got home and when I went to cook the bacon I had bought it had an expiration date of November 14, 2015! This is just unacceptable.

This Safeway is always short checkers. We have come here numerous times and it is always a problem. We are talking 25 minutes in line.

The Whole Foods of Safeways. Did self checkout so I can’t comment on customer service but no lines at 6pm on a Thursday. A pleasant surprise compared to San Rafael locations.

The pharmacy is a joke. Not even one time have I had a prescription called in and picked it up here without incident. Without fail there is something not in stock or they ‘don’t have it’ then call 5 minutes later and tell me they do in fact have it in their hand. Every person waiting in line is miserable whenever I’m here because it’s so painful. I’m not sure how it’s acceptable for a professional service to run so horribly.

The longest check out lines any where! With many closed check out lines. Be prepared to wait for a long time. Don’t bother calling customer service because they will not answer. I feel sorry for the employees here. HIREMORESTAFF.

I like the folks who work here. After years of shopping at this Safeway, it is nice to be asked how my daughter is doing, or that they haven’t seen my husband for awhile… was he busy at work? Cool human connection. On the flip side, when I only need an item or two and it’s busy, I like that they have 6 self service stations(Still, why is at least one always not working?). The worst thing at this Safeway for me is the bakery. They are always(really, always) selling baked goods past there«sell by» date. I learned this the hard way by buying a lemon tart that was well past its prime. Moldy, fermented lemon, Yum!

My previous post about 1 person in the deli department at dinner time shopping has become the pattern. I brushed it off when it happened again but tonight at about 6pm poor Cassie was the only person in deli to help customers. I had to wait in the deli line for maybe 10 minutes when another person got in line. Cassie finished with the original customer and I said«Cassie are you alone?» She nodded. There was someone putting out the roasted chickens but no one to help Cassie. Other people arrived looking for their dinner as she prepared my sandwiches. She did a good job just like Tatiana in first post. Safeway managers you’re going to force me and maybe others as I know the understaffing is a fact, to go to Nugget in Tiburon. And while there, I’ll probably add to the sandwiches other household items. Your customers and employees need consideration and basic customer service in the deli section… unless I am the only one with this experience.

Even though this location is further from my home than the one on Camino Alto, I come to this store because they actually understand customer service. Unlike the other Mill Valley Safeway, this store does their best to make sure the check stands are properly staffed for the number of customers in the store. Certainly there are times when you have to wait your turn, but it won’t be because only two check stands are open. Beyond that, the store is fine. Nothing really special. Parking can be a bit of a pain, but certainly better than Corte Madera.

I wish I could rate this store with ZERO stars. I picked up a cooked turkey breast from the Deli dept. Took it home for dinner and it made my entire family sick. I called the store and customer service put me on hold for the manager for 20 minutes… the phone connection disconected. I called back and customer service acted annoyed that I was calling back. Took my phone number and said someone would be calling me back. It’s been five days now and never heard from them. I have lived in Mill Valley for years and I will never shop there again. They seem to be so flippant about my family and I being sick. Really not a good way to handle customers. When I get a bit more time I will report this to the health department.

My wife and I do almost all of our shopping here because it is so conveniently located relative to our house. There is nothing overly special about this store. Sometimes it can be difficult to get service at the meat counter. It is often very crowded on Sundays with very long lines despite having most checkout lanes open. But they usually have good weekly specials which makes it very reasonably priced.

Standard Safeway store. Standard service. Standard selection. Standard prices. Not a whole lot outstanding about it. I will say that it does have a Starbucks and a deli and a pharmacy and a bakery and a butcher shop. It also has a florist. Thank you Safeway for your florist. My marriage thanks you too. ;) It’s noteworthy that there is a real lack of supermarkets and Southern Marin.
