The Pet Hale is locally owned by the Baker Ohana, a caring family who knows just what your pet needs for optimal health and happiness. The pet shop advocates adoption, and has information in the store about several local animal shelters that may have the perfect new friend you and your family are looking for. The store also houses numerous live animals, such as puppies, kittens, turtles, guinea pigs, bunnies, birds, and chameleons.

Most puppies for sale in the pet store come from families who have had a litter. The families place them in the store so that they may be placed with new, loving families. Furthermore, all puppies are screened by a licensed veterinarian while both the puppy’s family and The Pet hale are present. They will never place puppies in the store that come from large scale breeding operations or from anyone who they believe will not properly care for the animals…

History

Established in 2011.

The Pet Hale came about when both Ricky Baker and his daughter, Casey, lost their jobs at Pet’s Discount in June. When that store went bankrupt, the two began their job search. Pet’s Discount had not only been a job, but had been extended family for the 14 years that Ricky had worked there. After a short job search, our family decided to open our own pet supply store… with only 3 weeks to lease a location… and then clean, set up and stock it! Amazingly, with the selfless efforts and long hours donated by previous Pet’s Discount employees and wonderful family friends… the store opened it’s doors for business on June 17th, 2011. The employees, working along side of us at The Pet Hale, are some of those selfless friends and extended family.

This place is ridiculous. I went with my daughter with the hopes of buying a dog but left really upset. Please listen to the reviews. The dogs were over $ 500 and they did not even know their breed and to tops that the dogs were full of fleas. That is just horrible as we even saw roaches. I am extremely upset because no animal should live under those conditions. Please adopt a pet anywhere else, you will save a lot of money. This place is doing it for the money, they do not seem to care of their animals. I will not be coming back to this place. It seems the owner feels everyone who has commented here is a liar but its more than one person, that says something. They should probably stop saying that people are lying and maybe making a change. Learn to listen.

This is a short review after purchasing a puppy almost a year ago.
My gf and I bought our first dog, a Pomeranian, which the sign stated was ‘pure’ from The Pet Hale. Being that I’m actually going to a store versus Craigslist, I put all my trust into the expertise of the young lady that was working. First off, the puppy was $ 1500, $ 1500! Secondly, after the first free vet visit, the vet said my puppy had giardia, which cost me another couple hundred. Supposedly their puppys’ have been examined before reaching the store. Lastly, the dog was not pure period. After several months, I started noticing different traits. I did extensive research and had multiple opinions to conclude my Pomeranian was not pure. However, after putting so much time and effort into training my dog, there was no way I was just going to return her.
At this point, it doesn’t really matter because my dog is loved and in a very happy environment. I should’ve of done my research and purchased from a reputable breeder. I FEEL LIKE I WAS DECEIVED because $ 1500 is not chump change. The Pet Hale has made a lot of money off of me. I just want to warn other customers to do their research before purchasing from any pet store.

The daughter of the place was extremely rude to us this morning. I spent over $ 1400 my first and LAST visit to this store. They sold me a faulty product, I brought in my receipt (it wasn’t the best condition but still proof of purchase) and I tried to swap it NOT RETURN IT because I still wanted to use it (it was a manufacture error) and they wouldn’t do it. I have never even gotten to use said $ 25+ product and the little girl behind the counter just said no. Without any help. A big fuck you for spending so much money here for what? To be treated like that? I even said I don’t want to return it just swap it because I’ve never even been given the opportunity to use it and she didn’t care. Said if we swapped it we would be stealing? How is that stealing? I will never return. What a pretentious little brat. You need better workers OUTSIDE THE FAMILY. Because your daughter is making you lose repeat customers. VERY DISAPPOINTED

Wish I could leave NO STARS!
The owners and workers are completely RUDE! Their customer service is the worse I’ve ever seen. No one ever smiles, greets you, or asks if you need help… even when they’re not doing anything!
After reading other reviews on here, I see I’m not the only one. And their responses to the reviews are so arrogant and condescending. Instead of taking the comments and looking for ways to improve, they choose to belittle the people writing them and make excuse after excuse for bad behavior.
I notice they always have a help wanted sign on the door. They must treat their non-​family member employees just as terribly as their customers.

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE VERY. Wife is a LIAR ! I went with my daughter because we support local pet stores. I will never recommend or shop. One of the birds had dirty water the other had no food.
But the wife yelled at us saying we jumped the ropes around the bird which we didn’t we were their for 10 minutes and she was next to us.
She was fixing the ropes and they were on the ground she didn’t even have them in front of the bird.
I called back and the husband calls me a LIAR I told him to review his tapes and he said no your a liar to get over it.
I wont get over it because I was with my child and I teach her right from wrong and we did no wrong but you showed her that you are a Liar and Bully and mean people.
I DARE YOU I CHALLANGE YOU To post the video showing we jumped your ropes!!! I am 100% certain we didn’t JUMP your ropes… Are you 100% sure we did? If are you prove me wrong.
I forgot to add, we actually stopped in to buy the dog a present and some bird feed… First time in your store and the last!

Being a pet store, the workers should be sympathetic to pets of all sorts. There was a stray dog outside the store today. A man asked Pet Hale if anyone owned the dog outside. One of the workers said no, and didn’t seem like they wanted to help this dog. The man was trying to throw them hints if they could take the dog until Humane Society would come but the workers didn’t say or do anything. So the man said that he’ll stay with the dog then. The worker said, «Ok good luck.» Seems like they didn’t care about the stray dogs — only dogs that can make them money. Will not support this store anymore.

Our new addition to the family started to show some signs of illness so I found the pet Hale to be a great starting point before going to the vet. Sure enough they guided my husband to a product that has made a huge difference for our little friend. She is feeling and looking better already. The customer service is very supportive and knowledgeable.

Yes. The big white woman is rude. She is the one who was interviewed on The Pet Hui tv show.. i will never go back to this place. And I dont care if I live just a mile away. My dog accidently pooped on the floor. When I was trying to get the workers attention she just ignored me and kept talking to a customer at the counter. When I attempted to pick it up she then went off on me. So she knew what happened. I dropped everything and promptly left. Their stuff is really expensive. Too many people hanging out and blocking customers. I go to Petsmart and Petco for all my pet supplies now.

I have been here on multiple occasions and usually deal with Ricky. We normally come here for bird food or other bird items, plus it’s always nice to see the birds for sale and in boarding. We have had questions about different types of food and he explained what their birds eat and what they are hand fed with. He is very knowledgeable and has a great attitude. I am not sure about the adoption process as of yet. The daughter of the owner does most hand feeding and raising of the birds as far as I have been told. We are planning to do that soon, so I will update my review with my findings once that process is completed.
So far no complaints with this location. I haven’t found any other store that has as many varieties of birds as they do.

I’m very disappointed. Went to The Pet Hale this morning to buy crickets for our Jackson, paid$ 4.70 for a container .got home one hour later n all but 4 crickets were dead. In the past every container always had 1 or 2 dead crickets, my almost the entire container. A lesson learned always check your live stock b4 leaving a pet store.

I’ve always been treated well whenever I’ve come here. Both owner, manager and part timers.
Price are comparable to other pet stores, haven’t used grooming services yet.

I don’t know what it is with all these bad reviews, but I’ve been a regular customer for about a year and a half now and I have always had great service. Maybe because I’m a regular, I don’t know, but I pop in every 2 – 3 months to get my bunnies’ nails trimmed. I don’t always buy their products, but the family that owns and operates the Pet Hale is always friendly to my boyfriend and I when we pop in.
Brandy, the tall daughter, has helped me from day one when my boyfriend bought me my bunny for Christmas in 2013. I had researched online to confirm that a bunny was the right pet for me, but I still had some questions about bunny care. Brandy was patient with me and answered all my questions, and I could tell she was very knowledgable about bunnies (and probably all the other pets they carry, too). So I bought my baby lion head mix bunny from them, as well as the cage and supplies to start me off. I like bringing my bunny back in for nail trimming ($ 10) and gland cleaning ($ 5) every few months or so since they can do it fast, and I don’t need an appointment (like at the vets). I rather pay to get it done than chase my bunny around to do it myself lol.
Whenever I come in, Brandy and her younger sister (I forgot her name, but the shorter girl) usually assist me. They both helped me when I adopted a second bunny, even if I didn’t get my second bunny from them. Both girls are so friendly and gentle with my bunnies.
I admit the Pet Hale is not the cheapest for certain pet supplies, but I think competitive when compared to other pet stores like Petco or Petland (Kahala). I did find that their litter boxes were cheapest so I have 3 litter boxes I’ve purchased from them. I think everyone should shop around before buying for their pets, just as you do for your own stuff.

Came here a few times… Workers are rude. They need better customer service…
For a big space, they don’t have much items… They have a lot of BIRDS. They need to clean the store or use some fresheners. The store is also over priced.
There’s lots of parking and cute puppies which gives this review 2 stars!

Absolutely unprofessional.
I purchased a Bark Control Collar with my reservations. At the time of the purchase I asked the cashier, (daughter of the owner), if I could return it if it did not work. She told me, «Yes.»
I brought it home, place it on my dog, and it did not work at all. If anything made him more aggressive.
* Not even 24 hours later
I bring in the original packaging, receipt, and collar inside of the store. The owner, (mother of the cashier) told me I would not be able to have a refund. I asked why, I have everything original including the card I used which is stated on the receipt for a return. Everything brought was in like new condition.
The owner told me,
«It is like eating a salad, then trying to return it to the restaurant empty to get a refund.»
ARE YOU SERIOUS. I contended with her asking, «So if I were to hold the box to the dog’s neck it would work?» No of course not. It is one of those items that you literally don’t know until your pet experiences it.
She was obnoxiously loud, rude, and not professional. Explaining how I, am in the wrong because it should be in new condition. And began defending her daughter, which had nothing to do with the return, as if I was personally attack them.
I am posting picture (s) of the collar, so you can be the judge on what «Like New» condition is. I have already reported their business to the BBB because frankly it was ridiculous that they are false advertising their return policy or should I say lack of one.
DO NOT GO TO THIS UNPROFESSIONAL, RUDE, and LACKLUSTER pet store!!!

I love coming here after the gym to look at the puppies but this is purely out of convenience and not so much for the quality of the store.
Pros:
— They always have super cute puppies
— They carry a variety of pet supplies as well as animals (birds, bunnies, turtles, etc)
— OSPCA Adoptions
Cons:
— Rude customer service mostly from the younger/​part-​time employees. The owner is nice but they need to work on staff training and teach them not to ignore their customers
— They DO NOT carry fish or aquarium supplies
— The store smells of puppy odor. They should really clean the kennels more often or use some air freshener
— They never offer to let you see or pet the puppies T_​T
— Pricey. Granted the price of puppies has gone up ridiculously but still… $ 500+ for a poi dog?! I think I’ll just opt to adopt.

They’re the only place that we purchase our tortoise food from. They have a 20 lb bag that lasts us up to a year. We only have one sulcata. I enjoy how clean and clutter free it is compared to many small local pet stores. They seem to sell birds primarily. Some Jackson Chameleons and crickets. No fish sold here. They have puppies and older dogs for adoption by the OSPCA, not sure if they sell cats. I appreciate that they have a connection with the OSPCA that allows them to adopt from their store. They have large birds such as parrots; however, not sure if they are for sale as there are no signs besides the «do not touch». I wish they had price tags on all their items. It would save me lots of time when I’m trying to compare prices elsewhere. When we went in today, they had bunny and guinea pig displays but they were empty. They also have a pretty good sized selection of crates & kennels.

Wish I could give no star. This place sucks!!! The whole family was rude. Nice one day on the phone trying to assist what was wrong with the pup but then the next day after the clinic they referred me to said the puppy was unfit for purchase they was rude made me go to another clinic that said «pup is fine» and wanted me to walk A HOUR to a gate to sponsor her on when my husband would be home shortly. I’m not the only one who feels this way so I do not feel bad at all for writing this review.
I’m sure the puppy is doing fine now after all the medicine is was prescribed to feel better.
I mean when a PROFESSIONAL person (vet doc) tells you your puppy is sick and unfit for purchase and you only had the puppy for a couple days, wouldn’t you call and complain?

CARELESS CUSTOMER SERVICE and POOR POLICY. I urge you to read the reviews that are not recommended by Unilocal,as they depict the true nature of the store. Many reviews will tell you how terrible this place is.
I am a huge animal lover and you can read my reviews on the other pet stores that I frequent. I have been to this store 2x and both my experiences have been quite unpleasant. My most recent experience was awful. The owners daughter had an unpleasant attitude and showed no desire in the world to work with me on returning the brand new cage I had just bought a couple days prior, because she said she watched me push the large bird cage across the newly paved parking lot; so the wheels were no longer new. She would not even allow me to speak to her parents who apparently own the store. Needless to say I will not be returning to do business to this establishment. I love supporting local businesses but I feel they DO NOT DESERVE the BUSINESS of loyal paying customers. Their policy needs to be rewritten and be more detailed as I feel that it is per the interpretation of each worker.
