We are a social enterprise, meaning all of our profits are channeled back into the community we serve, to create jobs for local Tanzanians and improve porter working conditions on the mountain. History

Established in 2014.

Porters on Mt. Kilimanjaro are often fed only one meal a day, and paid less than $ 5 per day. They often have to bribe guides to choose them at the gate by sacrificing some of their pay. They climb in extreme weather, wearing inadequate gear, and sleep without blankets or sleeping bags. They are often paid late or not at all, and many porters never see the full tips intended for them. Samba Treks was formed when a Tanzanian guide and a U.S. climber became disheartened by the way porters were treated and exploited on Mt. Kilimanjaro. Inspired by their Christian faith, they came to the realization that the only way to truly change the current situation was to start their own Mt. Kilimanjaro climbing company and set a new example for porter treatment on the mountain.
