Mad Tiger Academy

I was hesitant at 1^st putting him into this physical sport, as my son is your average nerd. He researched this place so we went and checked it out. Met with Cheryl who was so nice and explained how the classes ran she even a opted for him to try that same day. So he got dressed up In his GI and coach Eric and the rest of the students welcomed him. All it took was just that one day, I’ve never seen him get so devoted and willing to do anything until now. MTA has transformed my son to become more responsible, motivated, fit, and believe it or not better in his studies. Thank you, MTA for motivating my son, I can’t praise u enough for what u have instilled in my son!

My son was in Kenpo Karate prior to moving here, and I wasn’t happy about the automatic promotions or promotions based on the amt of classes you attend, I want my son to earn his promotion based on his skills and knowledge of the techniques. Since he started at Mad Tiger for past months now, he loves it! He gets a great feeling of accomplishment when Coach Eric awards him with a new stripe.
If you’re looking for something challenging yet fun for yourself or child, Mad Tiger is the #1 place. The rates are affordable and they offer different class options. Coach Eric’s family are all involved in the business, so it definitely gives you that warm feeling of Ohana.

Looking for an awesome Jiu Jitsu class that teaches the Gracie techniques? It’s right here at Mad Tiger Academy! My son just started recently & my daughter just started this week & they LOVE it! Coach Eric & all his experienced assistant coaches are great at guiding the children!

I had trained with Coach Eric off and on over the years and always knew him to be someone I can trust no matter what. So when my 5 year old son wanted to train Jiu Jitsu, there was only one place I could take him and that is to Mad Tiger Academy. He’s good with kids and welcomes all practitioners of the sport. Coach Eric himself, does this for a living and so his dedication to his students, his classes, and the academy is second to none.
The academy offers many different workout programs, so just give them a call, visit the website or just go in and talk to him or his wife and they will provide you with all the information you need on the type of program you are interested in.

If you are looking for a great place to train Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, look no further!
Great instructor, great people, and great location. Coach Eric Goo perfectly mixes his instruction and guest instructors, many of which are multiple time world champions, to keep students engaged and constantly evolving as Jiu Jitsu practioners. Always great workouts, though they can be very challenging, they are realistic and applicable to BJJ.
As far as the students here, they are all in all a great group of people, very family-​like atmosphere, and always open and inviting to new students. If you are looking to make some great friends this is the gym for you.
So, if you are reading this review, you are probably interested is training or getting a great workout, I say, come down to Mad Tiger Academy and find out what I’m talking about!

Great place for training. Whether you are looking to shed some pounds, train jiu jitsu, do insanity or self defense Coach Eric Goo and his other instructers (Travis and Jeremy) are great people. Gym is family orientated great place for your kids to come down train and have fun. Highly suggest that anyone interested come down and try it out. NO EGOs, NO ATTITUDES just great training and great friends.

No doubt in my mind I would be training here if I was back on Oahu. Everybody suuuuper cool, no stinkeye, nobody making anykine. Just everybody having the same passion for jiujitsu.

My son and I stopped by to check it out and now I am a member. My 9 year old son really likes it and it’s different. The staff are great. I really look forward to be apart of the Mad Tiger family!

This place is awesome, great for kids and adults. There are all types of classes, such as Muay Thai, boxing, yoga, insanity and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Everyone is helpful and it’s a great family environment. Also promotes a positive and healthy lifestyle!

If you’re on Oahu and looking for a great place to train Brazilian Jiu-​Jitsu, I highly recommend going to Mad Tiger Academy. I’m 44 years old and I never thought I’d start training BJJ at my age. I always thought training BJJ would be intimidating but it has been quite the opposite. Sensei Eric Goo and the Mad Tiger Academy students are very helpful and encouraging. I feel that I’m in the best shape I’ve been in years and I’m hooked on training everyday. Do yourself a favor a check out Mad Tiger Academy you won’t regret it!

OK so this review was actually a result of one particularly terrible review from a woman several spaces below. Not only did her review contain atrocious grammar but it was unmitigatedly flawed and I felt the truth must be heard!
I am a brand spanking new female jiu jitsu practitioner who had never stepped foot in a dojo, however from the minute I walked into the gym I felt like a part of the Mad Tiger family. Coach Eric was not only classy but unbelievably helpful as I looked like a wounded elephant during my first weeks at jiu jitsu (hell, I probably still do). His wife Cheryl was so welcoming and nice as well as everyone who trains there. These guys realize that helping one another makes the team stronger and it shows. From family nights to everyone shaking hands and saying hi when you walk in, it’s apparent that no matter if you are MALE or FEMALE these guys will help you feel more confident and get you passionate about jiu jitsu! OSSSSS! They also have a pretty kick ass Insanity class too!!!

Love this place, I train here on a regular basis. The Sensei is a high level BJJ and he corrects you if you’re doing something wrong on the technique. The colored belts are very helpful, they’re there to help you learn. I learned so many techniques in so little time. This place preps you well for tournaments also. Everyone is friendly there. I signed up for the whole year which is the best package. I highly recommend this place for everyone. So if you just want to get fit or be a competitive level in BJJ, this place is the place to train! PERIOD.

Felt very welcome here from day 1, there is always someone willing to help me improve. Great family friendly academy they have Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes 7 days a week, Muay Thai Kickboxing, Insanity workout classes, Yoga, private lessons, Kids and teens classes. Anything to fit your schedule with different morning, afternoon, and evening classes.

Great place to train if you’re on Oahu! Very accommodating schedule, huge variety of fitness related activities including some awesome Insanity instructors. If you want to be part of a great team and family no matter how short or long your stay is, then this is the place to be. Check them out!

My review is based on a 1 day drop-​in session.
I was visiting O’ahu with family when a friend recommended I drop-​in for a roll at Mad Tiger Academy.
I contacted in advance to get details and Coach Eric was super responsive and welcoming.
I was staying in Waikiki which is quite a distance from the Academy (roughly 40 mins drive… but with rush hour traffic can be almost 2 hours!) Plan accordingly but worth the drive IMO.
Arrived late for Fundamentals class so sat on side and watched/​listened to the class.
My observations were that Coach Eric is a well-​experienced practitioner of the «gentle art» but more importantly is his patience and openess to share his knowledge with others.
I am a white belt (super Clorox white) and concerned about etiquette when rolling at other Academies (e.g., having another School’s patch on your Gi, rolling with higher belts, etc).
All that disappeared quickly the moment I stepped in.
Everyone was super friendly and approachable. Just folks coming together with a common purpose: learn effective/​proper BJJ techniques and have fun.
What really impressed me is the sense of family (ohana) that spread with everyone there… you can easily sense that Coach Eric makes this a priority.
Met really great folks and if I lived in O’ahu, I would make this place my 2^nd home.
Continued success to some new found acquaintances at Mad Tiger and hope to roll again soon.

As an adult female beginner this is what I think about this academy.
I’ll start by saying that I did not go from the couch to join in a Jiu-​jitsu class. I am a pretty fit person who has a modern dance background. I swim, jog, work out at a gym on a regular basis.
I had taken a few Muay Thai kickboxing classes and I thought I give jui-​jitsu a try. I LOVED it and in all fairness I think they do know what they are doing in this school.
However as a beginner you just follow the students in front of you and gwad help you.
I was totally ignored by the instructor. The only correction I got was from a more advanced student and the instructor APOLOGIZE to him for having had to take a few mins to correct me. He did it in front of me. I thought that was tactless and a poor tactic from the instructor.
I was paying for my class. I went a few times they never correct me or anything. I just got ignored.
I also have a gymnastics background from when I was young and I pick martial arts rather fast as far as picking up the technique but of course working with the other students can be very challenging. And even scary.
But that is where a good instructor’s approach in teaching can help or discourage someone to continue training. Positive reinforcement works for me when I take classes of any kind. A teacher that ignores me makes me feel like I am wasting my money.
If I decide to keep taking classes i’ll go somewhere else like Martial Arts Center in Kailihi. I did NOT like the teacher’s attitude. If he doesn’t want adult women beginners he can just say so or post it in his website.
I like MMA for several reasons although I admit it can get scary when you start sparring but also because I do not kiss okole not even from teacher with a good reputation. Teach me or i’ll take me business somewhere else.
Lucky for us in Hawaii there is no lack of good MMA instruction. I would not recommend this studio for adult beginner women even if you’re in pretty good shape.

Coach Eric and Alex are awesome. The students and parents are very positive… my daughter took Muay Thai… wish there were more girls her age (14) …good family feeling.

Great place and awesome people over at Mad Tiger Academy. My 10 year old daughter has been attending the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu class for about a year and can’t wait to go every week. Definitely a confidence builder for kids and a chance to make great friends. Plenty of parking for students and parents as well as good poke next door at Golden Mart!

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Muay Thai and other martial arts at it’s finest. Good friendly atmosphere. Very welcoming towards newcomers of all ages, levels and abilities. Conveniently located next to Golden Mart which has the best poke in central Oahu. Jiu Jitsu, poke and beer. Can’t get any better than that.
