My review is only based on the manager on duty for the last time I ordered. The potions are good, and food is always hot, but this guy was a jerk. No customer service at all. Maybe he works on Thursday nights? Avoid Thursdays.

Q: WTH is a cheese curd and why would you eat anything named cheese curd? A: Because it’s there, it’s weirdly good, it’s cheese, and in 20 years your doctor will forbid it completely. PROs: +STILL the only LJS on the island. +STILL a combo A&W/LJS shop. +STILL clean as h***. They CARE. +STILL rocking the root beer float in a mega-frosted mug, with free SODA refills only(sorry, you ain’t getting all you can eat ice cream, kiddo) +STILL huge, mutant fish pieces in your order +STILL nice customer service at the register and on the floor +Real fish from a fast food chain, no «reconstituted» square thing on a bun +Cheese curds! Because sometimes, a salty, freshly deep-fried ball of cheese just tastes good. Eat one, do 50 push-ups penance, repeat. +High chairs available +Clean bathrooms +Free, all-you-want tartar sauce, hot sauce, and malt vinegar for your fish if you eat-in(no weird«we charge you 25 cents extra per sauce» junk); we haven’t experienced any extra charges on drive through either, but looks like other reviewers mentioned it(??) +50’s diner ambiance +Open til 10pm +Call in lunch orders ahead of time(yay for no wait!) +Accepts credit cards(I think they used to be a cash only, but no longer) CONs: –WHY must the A/C be set to arctic temperatures? So… colddd…so…colddd…(But last time we were here, it seemed a little bit better. Maybe because we’re expecting it now, though.) Eat-in is still the way to go to get your money’s worth, though. –It ain’t cheap, at $ 4+ per fish sandwich. Best bets are the specials or the coupons that come in the mail. There’s also a BOGO fish/BOGO root beer float card that comes in the Val-Pak once a year. It’s how we got roped in, but the fish sandwich is comparable to the plate lunch stuff/Nico’s on size and prep. MAYBEs: *No more napkins at the table! Comes on the tray, with the order. Gotta get extras at the counter, although they will give them to you and are nice about it if you ask. BOTTOMLINE: We’d go back. Family friendly, consistently decent, and clean, if a little pricey. Locally owned joint!

GRUMPY! Grumpy enough for this to be my first review. :P My friend and I went to take our 6 girls(between us) to enjoy an A & W root beer float as our special«girls night out» treat!(7÷24÷13) We wanted to make it a special for them and I have always LOVED root beer floats. My parents fell in love over A & W root beer and it has been a «family thing» ever since. I was excited to share the tradition with my girls. So I splurged and got them the largest size. That would be 7 large floats and 1 oreo swirl… for $ 32+. Ok … I was game for the fun and tradition of it. However the fun stopped as we realized(down the road) that all of us had barely any ice cream. Seriously??? What is the point!!! So, I counted my bites of ice cream… 5HALFSPOONFULS… in a large? Needless to say no one enjoyed their float. The only happy one was the one with the oreo swirl. Sadly I do not see myself coming back… despite«family tradition» not worth it at all!

it was 86 degrees in town this afternoon, so my wife, son and I decided that an A&W root beer float would cool us off nicely. We drove all the way out to Mililani and arrived here around 4 p.m. Nice and cool A/C inside. The only other patrons inside were a small family with young children. The place not being busy at all, we walked right up to the counter and ordered three root beer floats and a side order of fries to pick on. The guy behind the counter repeated our order and we paid for it. We got our floats quickly and sat down at a table close to and in view of the counter. The floats were served in frosty mugs and were delicious. After we finished off our floats in about 5 minutes, we waited another 5 minutes but our french fries were nowhere to be seen. We watched for another 3 – 4 minutes while the guy behind the counter packaged up a drive-thru order. We decided that they must have forgotten our order of fries. We went up to the counter and asked for our fries. «Sorry, I forgot» was the reply we got from the guy. Another 2 – 3 minutes, and we got our fries. If the place was busy with patrons, I’d be more forgiving and understanding. But like I said, the place was practically deserted. And the guy repeated our order back to us and rang it up correctly according to the receipt. We were waiting in plain view and he even glanced at us one or two times. What was he doing back there behind the counter that would make him forget a customer’s order? Were we not appreciated as customers? Small details like this seem insignificant but they make big first impressions. The restaurant business is all about customer service. Sorry A&W, you get two stars here.

Ahh an oldie but still a goodie. If you’re in the neighborhood what a fun place to have a quick and yummy old fashioned rootbeer float. You can get it in a frosty mug and choose either regular or diet rootbeer. I would opt to eat in even though they turn the AC to the max in there because you can go back to the help-yourself tap to refill your mug as many times you want. I’ll have to remember to bring my jacket next time.

If you remember the old Moanalua Shopping Center, you’ll remember Long John Silvers. Only up til a few years ago, I thought LJS was long gone from Hawaii but I was wrong. They’ve been here in Mililani for a few years already and the best part is they’re in conjunction with A&W. Okay, first things first… bring a sweater!!! It’s always cold in here. It’s not a bad thing, I actually like it, but just bring a sweater if you want to feel comfortable. I’ve always enjoyed LJS fish(with malt vinegar) along with their fries. But my kids don’t really care for fish which is why i’m thankful that A&W is here. Fish for me, burgers or chicken strips for the kiddos. BUT of course mommy has to get an A&W Rootbeer float also(no matter how cold it is in here, it’s still a must). Happy family, happy tummy! The restaurant is kept clean, fountain drinks are refillable(sadly not the floats), and there’s a self serve condiments table consisting of malt vinegar, ketchup, cocktail sauce, tartar sauce, salt, & pepper. The prices are a little higher than your typical fast food joint(ranging from $ 7.99-$ 12.99 meals and kids meal at around $ 5.50). But if you had to drive all this way and find a restaurant that is not located anywhere else on the island, that alone is worth trying and paying the extra dollars for. So go try’em, go try’em, go… good! Note: The LJS ‘platter meals’ DONOT include a drink so don’t forget to order your drink separately. Or just get the Rootbeer float. You also have the option of buying the A&W Rootbeer mug. Nice!

I haven’t written a review yet, but I have been here a few times. The most recent time I was kind of disappointed. First I’ll point out what was wrong. I had printed an online coupon(from the LJS website) and attempted to use it. I was informed they don’t honor online coupons. Strike one. I wanted an order of cheese curds and they were out. Strike 2. Then when I tried to pay for my meal, it was only then they let me know they were accepting cash only at that time. No sign on the doors or near the cash register. Strike three. I could’ve spared myself the drive there. Needless to say, I left there without food. Overall, the restaurant is clean. The cashier was friendly but again, she could’ve mentioned the cash-only thing before I ordered. Of course I’ll probably go back — but simply because this is the ONLYLJS on the island.

So yesterday I finally got my root beer float. I called beforehand to make sure they had root beer. It was very good, not awesome, but definitly 4 stars. Now to the managers, please do something about the cleaning cloths wrapped around the root beer tap next to the fountain drinks in the dining room area. They are funky as in unclean looking. Also while we are on the subject of improvements, please have your workers attend some sensitivity training. Having a worker give me stink eye for parking in the handicap parking is not a nice way to cap off a meal. Just because I don’t «look» handicap doesn’t mean i don’t have a disability. #Yelp 365002⁄365 Date Visited: 8÷2÷2011

We all know that I’m a sanitation whore so here goes: My husband and I walked into this place and he almost ate it right there in the entrance way. The floors were so greasy and gross. He was even wearing military combat boots! We saw another guy almost slip and fall a mere 5 minutes after we walked in. The soda fountain was gross, the condiment station was gross. We start from one corner of the restaurant to find a booth. 6 of them were dirty and haven’t been wiped. We finally seated ourselves in the opposite corner next to the only other party eating lunch ther
