Saved me from a broken pipe on a Sunday afternoon during a Pats game, professional, reasonable, what more can I say?

I had these guys over to service the central air conditioning in my house. Our system is nothing special, just your run of the mill split system with the condenser outside, just like most folks who have central. Setting up the appointment was a breeze and they were about to come out in one business day. The service engineer turned up on time, took a look at the components in the attic, changed the filter, cleaned the drip pans and checked everything. He then proceeded outside and looked at the condenser unit, charged it and inspected it etc. After all the work was done, he provided me with an invoice which detailed all the work they did. He recommended that we get on their Preventative Maintenance plan and stated that he’d have someone from the office send it out, haven’t received anything. All in all, I would say their service is just«OK». I’ve not been blown away by them and I will try someone else before I settle on a longer term provider.

I had a Hallowell Acadia heat pump/AC system installed in my split-level house which was previously heated by forced hot water only. They had to install all the ductwork for this system. I had heard a lot of good things about the system, though, and I wanted an AC, and my old boiler needed replacement anyway, so I went for it. I had a few quotes from different companies. All-Temp Systems was right in the middle, but it turns out the lowest quote was just a guy working from his residence, not a real business, and the BBB didn’t like him much. And it turns out that one of my family members had an AC installed by All-Temp and liked them. So I picked them. The quote they gave me did not include stuff like electrical wiring and such. Fine, I figured — I am very capable of doing it myself. So I said I will take care of it and get the permit. As it turns out, I had to hire my electrician to inspect my wiring(he was fine with it and said I even went beyond what I had to in a couple of areas) and get a permit because my town would not give me one as a homeowner. All-Temp started bugging me about needing the permit and such or they would void my warranty and this and that. I kind of understand where they are coming from, but I feel that they were rude about it. I also replaced my thermostat wire with the help of a friend. The Acadia uses 10 wires(as opposed to the usual 2 to 4) but I went to 2 stores and called a few more and nobody had it in stock — I needed it immediately as I had been without heat for days. I asked one of the installers if I could just run two 5 wire cables, and that I would mark the colors to keep them separate, and he said in these EXACT words, «That should be fine.» So I do it up and have them come over to install it, and they refuse to because of the thermostat wire. I got a call from a VERY rude person there about it, saying his guy told me I can’t do that. BS. Anyway, while he was very rude, and I mean VERY rude, he did work with me and had his electrician drop me off some wire which I ran. A few days later(it’d been like a week without heat at this point) he had his guy come and hook it up and it worked beautifully. The ductwork they ran is all insulated and nice. They went into my garage and stayed below the ceiling even when they could have run some of the ductwork above it, though I do understand that they are not plasterers/drywallers, but one of them interfered with my garage door and so I just lowered the garage door track slightly. Not a major issue but I wish they would have paid a little more attention to that. Note that while I had some rude contacts on the phone, the installers(whose names I forget) were nice. I would recommend them again because while my experience was not perfect, they still did a good job overall.
