Rusty Rail Brewing Company

We were at the restaurant for the first time yesterday, Sunday, with another couple. While the building is beautiful, the food and service was one of the worst experiences we ever had. We arrived at 2:15 only to be told we could only order bar food until 3, since the brunch time ended at 2 and there was a lag until 3, a fact not listed on your website. We were not given an opportunity to be placed on a waiting list or to be offered to sit at the bar to wait. When we decided to wait, the hostess was less than cordial or accommodating. After waiting over 15 minutes, we asked if we could sit at the bar and get a drink. Another hostess said absolutely. We sat at an empty table and I stood at the bar for 10 minutes just trying to get a bartenders attention. Then a hostess came over and told us very rudely «you will have to move, this table is reserved.»
We were finally seated and waited another 10 minutes to have anyone come and ask if we wanted drinks. A waitress finally arrived and said it wasn’t her section and this table was” just thrown at her.“
It took another 10 minutes to get our drinks. Another waitress arrived bringing our drinks and to take our order. The food took another 20 minutes.
My wife had the Country Ribs as described «A large tender, meaty, fall-​off-​the-​bone, center cut, rib, hickory smoked and drizzled with a balsamic BBQ sauce. Served with spicy pepper slaw and corn fritters.» The waitress offered it as an entrée and it was indeed a single, very small rib. The fork full of pepper slaw was unimpressive and the corn fritters were not on the plate.
My friend had the cheese steak which was overcooked and primarily burnt; the cheese was non-​existent. I had the Cheesy Kielbasa. While it itself was OK, it was cold and had sit so long that the bread became mush. I expected more that he two pieces of caramelized onion. We both had ‘bottomless fries’ Our waitress never offered more, which was fine since the fries we had were heavily seasoned with salt that they were inedible.
Our other friend had the Ravioli. The ends of the ravioli were so dry she couldn’t cut it with a knife. It was apparent that these sat around for a long time before being served, almost as though they were on a steam table at your buffet an hour earlier. The waitress did apologize for this plate and removed it from our bill.
We had looked forward to eating here and had hoped that most of the significant problems would have been worked out; apparently not.

We were there on Sat. At 2. Had a party of seven one celebrating birthday the other anniversary. We were seated very quickly and ordered. We waited 1and a half hours for our meals, we all ordered cheesesteaks and one got Mac and cheese, the sandwiches were ok not real hot and some of the steak was overdone certainly not worth the wait. Thewait staff was great but you definitely have a problem in the kitchen

The atmosphere, service, and beers are excellent. The food — at best — is average.

Awesome Beer, Food and atmosphere. I love this place. Sunday Brunch is Delicious. Try the Brisket and Hash. The French onion soup is very good :)

The restaurant was absolutely beautiful. The micro brews were pretty good. The service was just OK. The food was not very good. I had the pulled pork. It was dry and cold. Wife meal was the same. We will try again. But, in my book, 2 strikes and your out.

Great atmosphere but that’s where it ended for us. Our first time there, but the couple we were with it was their second time. The couple we were with were not impressed their first time there, but decided to give it a second try. Again they were disappointed. Since the wait was 1hr+ even at 4pm, we decided to eat upstairs. 3 of our 5 meals were luke warm to cold. A bowl of chili should never be cold. Two rib dinners were cold and no where near the fall off the bone description on the menu. Multiple reviews complain of cold to warm food. The cold food issue persists. Rusty Rail should have those kinks worked out by now. A business can only use the «new» excuse for so long. The beer is average. I had the brown ale and the Imperial stout. We were there at 4pm and if the food was cold at that time, I’m glad we didn’t arrive later. If this was a brewery with a tasting room, I would understand as the focus should be on the beer, not the food. However, once you delve into the beer AND food business, you must be good at both. Breweries and brewpubs are opening weekly around the country. Others are also closing weekly. If they do not address their issues, once the newness and novelty wears off or even a competitor opens up, the Rusty Rail might not be in business very long.

This is everything you could ever want in a bar, in a restaurant, in a venue. To begin the atmosphere is so great, railroad ties, wood everything with a rockabilly flair. The food was top notch. We had the PoBoy and the pork belly burger with fries and the homemade chips. Everything came out hot and melty and delicious. The Wait staff was super friendly and helpful with choosing what to eat. She boxed up our desserts to go and wrote a nice note on it about the impending birth of our child. Now the beer, the imperial wolf stout is best stout I have ever taken the smallest, tiniest sip of, my Husband had some sexually explicit things to say about it as well.
Overall a great place and we will be back with lots of friends and family.

Great atmosphere, good microbrewery. The kitchen had a lot of problems getting our food out on time. We waited over 45 minutes from the time we ordered until our food arrived and then some of it was burnt and some was cold. The eggs definitely had been sitting under the warmer for quite a period of time.
The bar appetizers we had before were really good. They just really need to focus on kitchen execution of the menu.
Oh — and their brunch menu, really isn’t brunch. It’s just breakfast items until 2 p.m. Extremely odd because you can order appetizers and lunch snacks upstairs. Just silly. Brunch is breakfast AND lunch.

Okay, I am very particular about my food. I cannot afford to waste calories eating food that I don’t really like. I cannot count the number of times hubby has gotten PO’d with me because of sending food back. (Although he will deny this).
It’s Dec 26^th and we called at 11:30am and 12:00 to confirm they were open. They didn’t call back so we decided to take a chance that they were open. (They called me back 4 hours later) Glad we did.
We had 3 great drafts. Hubby brews Belgium Ales and has purchased countless ales all across different price ranges. He considers himself a connoisseur.
Appetizers: smoked buffalo wings and Asagio Rosemary fries. Both were good. Fries were not greasy at all.
I had beet and goat cheese salad with salmon he had some kind of pretzel bun hoagie.

I ate there for lunch on a weekday and it was shockingly busy for quaint mifflinburg. I ordered a cheddar kielbasa sandwich. The kielbasa itself was great, it had a lot of flavor and was prepared perfectly, but unfortunately the sandwich was topped with cole slaw and by the time my food got to me the bun was soggy as can be. I was also slightly disappointed in the choice of bread, it was rather bland for such an exciting restaurant. I decided to upgrade my meal from chips to bottomless fries, I wasn’t extremely impressed, the fries were over salted and for the most part your average fresh cut fries. The overall atmosphere and environment of the place was amazing and definitely made the meal more enjoyable. Our waitress (Dani) was excellent, great service, polite, friendly and speedy. I recommend the rusty rail to just about anyone, even non-​drinkers.

Great food and great beer but even better atmosphere. Rode motorcycle for an hour to this place and well worth the ride. I will be back again. Sunday brunch i got the steak and eggs which was good paired with their Wolf King Stout. This place is a hidden gem, large building and a must see. Once you do you will return!

SERVICE SUCKS, Just saying. Foods good, but service sucks. If you have 2 to 3 hours for drinks & diner then your good if not in a hurry. Someone needs to take over the service in this restaurant soon and show them how to quickly serve people… It’s called STAFF THE RESTAURANT PERIOD. I’m out!

Let’s start with the fact that 80% of the menu is breaded and fried (GROSS) (also having the inside info of knowing), A LOT of the food items are pre-​cooked by the kitchen and just reheated or crisped in fryer before serving to the public. I.e. Wings both kinds, chicken tenders, fries, fried meatballs, most of the apps, well done burgers, chips sit around all day under a heat lamp before getting served. Which is why I’m confused about how it takes so long to be seated and served at this place? It’s just quite obvious that they are all grasping at straws on how to run this place.

Had to give it a shot. 3^rd Sunday I believe since available. Kiddo got Banana Foster waffle. Big enough for 3 of us to split. Very good. Wife got the bloody Mary flight. $ 16. 3 of them were missing the garnishes described on the menu. Ordered the steak and eggs. Asked for medium got almost well. Still had flavor. Waitress offered no options to fix. Overall that was good. Me, brisket and eggs with potatoes. Tasty but a lot of fat came with it. Good experience, not great. 60 bucks isn’t cheap either.
Will return.

We came on a Thursday afternoon for lunch. This is a beautiful facility with a friendly staff. My husband enjoyed the beer. The food was ok. The cheese steak spring rolls were delicious. The buffalo chicken wrap was falling apart and the chicken was overcooked and dry. It did not look appetizing when served. The chili was good, but not served as described in the menu. This place has a lot of potential, but will need a strong management team to make it a long term success.

Loving craft beer, I needed to check out the newest one in our area. We had a 1 hour wait which I don’t mind but after being seated I was a bit disappointed. My burger was good but well done when I had ordered medium. This just seems to be a curse with me lately. Good beef saved the day flavor wise but still dry from over cooking. The fries were just warm and very chewy as if they had been sitting for a while and they were $ 2 extra. I liked the house made chips that came with my wife’s sandwich but they are fried pretty dark whichever works for me but my wife wasn’t impressed. Her roast beef po’ boy looked good but really didn’t have much flavor. The beer is good but not something that’s good enough to have me drive 45 minutes for a meal. They’ve only been open for about 2 months so I’ll give them another try but I’m not in a rush to do so.

We visited the RR brewpub on a Saturday evening arriving a little before 5PM and were told there would be about an hour wait so we decided to wait. After an hour passed we checked back and were told 15 more minutes. Thirty minutes later we were finally seated at our table. A one hour wait is significantly different than an almost 2 hour wait. While I understand it may be difficult to estimate turnover times, this one wasn’t even close. During the last 45 minutes of our wait numerous tables were empty, which reflects the need for additional staff to be able to handle to size of the dinning rooms.
Once we were finally seated we ordered appetizers with our drink orders to ensure we received something to eat as soon as possible. The appetizers arrived promptly, but our main meals took over 40 minutes to arrive even though we had all just ordered sandwiches and burgers!
Overall the food was OK. The burgers were good, but nothing memorable. The Roast Beef Po-​boy was confusing. The description stated, «A hearty helping of pulled brisket, topped with IPA spiked, onions, greens, melted provolone cheese and horseradish mayo.» Unfortunately, the meat in the sandwich had no resemblance to any beef brisket I’d ever eaten, was more like a chewy flavorless pulled pork with the horseradish mayo being undetectable. The best part of the entire meal was the homemade chips. The beer was pretty good and they had a variety, which is a positive since many micro-​brewpubs tend to focus on the «Hops».
The RR is very attractive inside and out featuring a blend of steel and wood, which goes nicely with the Rusty Rail theme. While I realize the restaurant opened just recently and I hate to give a low rating, there were just too many kinks in the evening that need to be addressed to keep people returning to the area.

Amazing restaurant! The food was not cheap but very good! I ordered the beef brisket. The beef was cooked to a tender perfection with green beans that had a wonderful crispy snap and shredded potatoes that had a flavorful essence of being wood fired! The restaurant is located in a very old brick manufacturing building, so the architecture is rustic brewery at its finest with nicely done real hand painted murals above the bar, exposed heavy timbers, ironwork hinges, balusters and door slides, authentic hardwood floors, done beautifully! They are an IPA Brewery so don’t expect any mass manufactured beers like Budweiser. I don’t drink so I did not try the beer. They are still a very new restaurant so there were a few unexpected service glitches but nothing intentional, they are just getting a footing on how to get everyone into a harmony. I would HIGHLY recommend this restaurant.

Stopped here on a Saturday afternoon after a soccer game. TOTALLY AWESOME!!! Great beer, great food, coolest facility I’ve seen in 100 miles of Mifflinburg.
Long waits are probably due to just starting up. What better place to wait for your food than a really good brewery!

Let me start with this…
The facility is FANTASTIC! Hands down one of, if not THE, highest end brew pub I have ever been in. Multiple bars, wine room, outdoor seating with fireplace, sun room seating, man cave area, pool tables, wall murals, antique autos, and probably more. Truly a spectacular location that looks like it could be in a large metropolitan area… but just happens to be in this small quintessential American community.
The food was amazing as well! We started with a couple appetizers… Hickory Smoked Country Ribs, very tasty… IPA Spiked «O» rings, good, but a little to breaded for my taste… Mother-​In-​Law had the Pan Seared Crab Cakes (an appetizer) for her dinner and she loved them. (this woman is a crab caked nut… so if she says they are good THEY’RE GOOD… but she is also a Mother-​In-​Law so it will never be great) Wife and Daughter had a chicken and hamburger sandwiches that they loved, and I was the big winner with the Herb Brined Pork Rib Chop. This was truly a wonderful meal. Best Chop I have had in a long time. Desserts you ask? We had Bananas Foster Cheesecake and a Brownie Gelato Tower. WOW!
In addition, the presentation was perfect. You can sure tell there is a Chef in that kitchen. I think it would impress almost any food snob. lol
Beer is as you would expect. Very… very good.
Service was friendly and quite good considering the place has only been open a couple weeks.
Now for your last question. If it is that great, why not 5 stars?
We waited 45 minutes for seating… I know… I know… that is not typically a problem (nor should it be) My problem was that although we had to wait… there was plenty of seating. Initially, a very frustrating situation. Finally, I got the explanation from the staff. Although there was seating, the kitchen, or rather the new kitchen staff, had reached its capacity. I understand totally, however the management needs to relay this to the customer. I hate waiting for a table when I see all sorts of seating is available. When leaving, a sign outside basically said to come again, that they had reached capacity, at 7 pm! Nothing would be worse than driving a distance to try a new place believing they are open for hours longer, and being told they are in effect closed due to overcapacity… then compounding the frustration by going in to see the menu and seeing tons of open tables. Until this is worked out… they are a 4.
That being said… What are you waiting for? Shouldn’t you be on your way to Mifflinburg by now?
