History

Established in 1986.

Swift Creek Animal Hospital has been serving Midlothian area pets and their parents since 1986. In 2008 we moved to Colony Crossing, one mile south of St. Francis at the end of the Powhite Parkway. Since our beginning, our practice has been built on personal care, open communication and the highest-​quality medicine. While our hospital has expanded, we continue to provide the same warm family atmosphere we are known for. We look forward to serving you and your pets in our new location!

Business Owner

From Whitehouse, Ohio, Dr. Craig Nofzinger grew up with his father’s veterinary practice and credits the elder Dr. Nofzinger as a major factor in his decision to pursue a career in veterinary medicine. From his humble beginning cleaning cages at his father’s practice to now owning Swift Creek Animal Hospital, Dr. Nofzinger’s career has been characterized by his unwavering dedication to the well-​being of animals as well as a true commitment to the pet parents who rely on him.

Dr. Nofzinger attended Miami University and The Ohio State University, where he majored in animal science, and earned his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine. He is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Virginia Veterinary Medical Association and the American Animal Hospital Association. His professional interests include surgery, internal medicine, dermatology and dentistry.

I made a Unilocal account just to post this review. This vet has changed a lot in the past few years. I’ve been going there for years but am now switching due to multiple issues. Don’t expect to ever be seen the same day, even when you call as soon as they open and you have a truly sick animal. If you do want to be seen, you have to «walk-​in» and pay an extra fee. I’m starting to think they are saying they have no appointments just to get the extra money. They say they open at 7 a.m. but they don’t actually bother to answer their phone till 8:00ISH a.m. I tried calling on a Tuesday between 12:00 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. and they were closed. They now have 2 young vets whose inexperience is obvious. I got a 5 month old puppy from the shelter and was told it was 1.5 yrs old and just malnourished. One young female vet in particular is completely cold and unfriendly. Do not take your pets here. This place gets worse and worse by the day.

Dr. Veitch and his staff have been wonderful! Since he knew our finances have been tight he has been helping us manage our cats’ urinary blockage on an out patient basis. They were kind enough to give us a same day appt. and even though we were 15 minutes late for our appt. (we mistakenly went to the wrong vet, causing us to be late. We called to let them know we were running late) and he still saw us. Not only was he concerned about our little guy’s blockage, but gave us something to manage the pain as well. The staff were knowledgeable and friendly. We’ve definitely found our vet! We highly recommend him!

Late 10 minutes for an appointment due to weather, and was refused service. My dog was sick, and needed help, and they literally turned me away. If you want you animal to be treated like a number, take him/​her here…

We were looking for a vet after moving here and decided to try this one as it was closest to our house, and our pup was sick. They were able to get us in to see the vet very quickly, and we had an appointment that day. From our first walk through the door, the staff was very knowledgable and friendly, and we were placed in a room right away. Not soon after, Dr Phelps walked in and took the time to listen to our whole story, came up with various plans of action, and even mentioned end of life care, but assured us it was not something we would have to think of yet. In the following weeks, we had numerous conversations both in person and on the phone with Dr Phelps, and finally figured out what was ailing our dog. I am happy to report, with just some diet and stress modifications he is back to normal and continuing to bring us many more years of joy. Dr Phelps is extremely smart and compassionate and really seems to care for pets, almost as if they were his own. We highly recommend this place!

We have been coming here since moving here 6 years ago. They are a wonderful group of professionals. Knowledgeable, friendly, and I’m amazed at how well they know each ‘patient’! We have cats, and a couple of them have chronic problems, and the vets couldn’t have been better at diagnosing and treating them. They always follow up with test results in a timely manner, give comprehensive information and recommendations, and are the best group we’ve ever worked with. I highly recommend this clinic for all of your cherished pets!

I hesitate to give them five starts, but I can’t think of anything they don’t do well. Friendly, great hours, knowledgeable, helpful. From getting your rescue puppy checked up for the first time, solving a late night ate-​the-​whole-​ham crisis, to putting down a faithful longtime companion mercifully. They’re great.

These guys are really great. I just got a dog and I brought her here even though the adoption place gave me a coupon for a free visit at their vet. When I asked when they were open they told me that they’d take their last «new pet» appointment at 6pm. It was clear that they rather would have liked me to show up earlier but 6 was the earliest I could have gotten there so they scheduled the appointment for then.
Everyone was very nice and cooed over my dog. They keep really fancy dog treats there and gave her some for being a good girl. The vet was great and the vet tech was a sweet girl. I didn’t notice until afterwords that the dog has two small stitches poking out of her tummy from her spay. They asked how long ago her spay was so perhaps that’s why they were asking. I wish they’d told me if that was the reason they were asking.
The visit was 225 $ for a month of flea meds, 6 months of heartworm meds and the well visit where they looked at her teeth, mooshed her insides around and checked her poop for parasites. I’m sure that’s reasonable but it wasn’t cheap to me! It made me look into getting pet insurance. I’m glad I looked into it and didn’t get any because there are several articles saying that the insurance is always more expensive than it’s worth! yes, that’s off topic, but I figure it’s useful if you’ve got a pet, and you’re likely only reading this if you do so hah!
