We were one of two tables in the restaurant and the other table was finished and hanging out. Had the worst service and even worse food. Not even worth my time to say more than that. This place sucks. The food staff and management is the worst. Stay clear of the one and go to q BBQ.

One word, roaches. We were halfway through our meal when one wandered out from behind the barbecue bottles. We told our server and she said they were really trying to work on it and apologized but I just couldn’t eat any more. If they are wandering around in the dining room, what are they doing in the kitchen? The food was okay up until that point, my companion finished her meal and said it was good. I hope they get a handle on this soon.

3.5 stars. The beer was awesome. Got a Belgian trippel and it was perfect. Didn’t hurt that it was only $ 6 for a full pint(at 9%). Food was less amazing but I got a the special of the day, which is always a little risk, right? Burnt ends, mac/cheese, and fries. Meet was tender enough, but flavor was lacking. Wasn’t a fan of the sauce. Mac n’ cheese was just ok… which in my book isn’t a ringing endorsement at a bbq place. But I would go back for the beer alone, and try the food again.

We visited Extra Billy in Midlothian before going to see a movie at Carmike. Its great how close the Theatre and Extra Billys is. We had about 30 mins to grab some appetizers and a drink at the bar. I ordered hush puppies, fried pickles, fried mushrooms, and onion straws. Jesse has a triple overtime«beer» and I had a taste, it was good! The hush puppies and onion straws were excellent. Yummy fried goodness. The fried pickles did not have enough batter on them but still had a good pickled flavor. The server miss heard me and brought a shrimp boat instead of mushrooms. They were ok. I would have like to try the mushrooms but we were out of time since we had a movie to go to. The server Amanda was very helpful and friendly. We had an enjoyable experience and will go back. Next we will have a little more time and try the Que.

Went to Extra Billy’s tonight and was thoroughly unimpressed. The good things first. The sausage was really good and has a great smoked flavor to it. The home made brews are worth getting a sampler of for sure. The applesauce has good flavor although I’m not big on chunky style. Now for the so so stuff. The brisket has good flavor but was dry and only having two sauce options falls short of pretty much any other BBQ place in town. The crispy outer parts to the hush puppies tasted a little over done but the inside was fine. Then there are the bad things. The mac ‘n cheese was bland and hardly had enough cheese to really call it mac ‘n cheese. My girlfriend’s burger came out well done and overly charred when she ordered medium rare. My applesauce had some kind of meat in it, luckily it was cooked as I have not had any issues. Lastly the price was certainly not worth the meal we had. For being a Richmond institution Extra Billy’s really needs to step up its game to keep pace with the growing culinary excellence of Richmond.

I have to give only two stars to any place that I would not visit again. The food was just o.k., which is not good enough in this competitive market. Especially when you are considering barbecue, for which we here in RVA have a number of really good choices. My meat was tough and a chore to eat. The kids’ meals were so-so. I had no issue with the service.

I typically find myself here when I’m binge movie watching at Ovation and need a break in between films. I love their Texas sausages. These sausages are so good… and you get plenty. I have not eaten all of the food yet, but I do try. The sides are okay. I don’t remember what I’ve ordered. The wait staff is friendly. Again, the sausages will keep me coming back when I’m in the area.

Came here with a large group(25+ people) last Saturday night. Our server was very efficient at serving us and dividing the bill properly. The food was just okay. Very basic menu of BBQ and smoked meats. I had the BBQ nachos which were actually a very large serving. I ate the second half for a filling lunch the next day. The nachos were basic and tasty. No complaints from me. Extra’s Billy’s seems like a good place to take the kids with simple menu items that will appeal to most people. Basic, average, decent food. Nothing to write home to mama about, but I wouldn’t say no if invited back by the same group.

Extra Billy’s has been around as long as I can remember on Broad, but this is the one we’ve gone to for yrs. I like the BBQ and it’s good. But not always is it outstanding. I’m not going to beat up on the restaurant… the sides are OK… the green beans are probably the best. We have so many places to eat BBQ, that, IMO, everyone has their own idea of what BBQ is good, better, best or outstanding. From the reviews, and I’m not a big beer drinker, they are stepping up a notch w/their beer. They’ll do the same with their food I’m sure w/the additional beers the food w/get better… they’ll be busier and have really outstanding BBQ.

Love this place, get the BBQ sampler with mac n cheese and green beans as sides and you can’t go wrong. Their in house brewed beers and guest taps are a plus! They have 2 types of BBQ sauces available at every table, Kansas and Carolina styles.(I prefer the tangier Carolina one). The atmosphere is outdated but charming in it’s own way. Highly recommended!

We have always liked this place, when out and about for lunch and never thought of the beers as anything more than a novelty. However we had not been in about 2 years and things have changed! All of their in house beers are solid with two, Sin Bin and Citra ass down being exceptional! I’m very happy with the newer beers and have always loved the bbq. Extra Billy’s is firmly BACK on the radar. UPDATE Went recently, beer was still awesome, pulled pork was good but WTF happened to the burnt ends? We got two orders… all fat, sent one back, WHICH I NEVERDO! And got another plate of fat cubes with sauce. Awful period. Have to drop a star for that.

Went here last week for lunch. When we walked in we saw on the board that the special for the day was a bbq baked potato and we both thought it sounded good so I got the chicken and he got the pork. We were both pretty disappointed. The meal was SO dry, even after drenching it in bbq sauce. It came with no baked potato fixings(I expected at least sour cream). The only good part about the meal was the baked beans, they were delicious.

Extra Billy’s is evolving in a good way. Recent awards(yay) Scored three awards for its ForeCzech, Citra Ass Down and Sin Bin beers. Good press coverage: Tried a yummy special which I think was on special — Burnt tips? If interested I’m sure your server will know. Since we usually come just as a couple, we generally sit in the bar area, which is usually quieter than the dining room, but both are well and professionally staffed, and in good weather the patio is very pleasant.

Restaurant was almost empty at dinner time. That should have been a sign that it had gone further downhill than my last visit a year ago, which was also pretty bad. Bland, dry BBQ, overcooked chicken, mediocre sides, and sloppy, disorganized, and sluggish service. All in my party of 7 were dissatisfied, and got virtually no apologies from the manager who had obviously heard it all before. Nothing special to see here. Save your time and money.

Tonight everything was perfect. Emily provide perfect fast and attentive service. We are on the patio as I write this enjoying the pleasant weather and the oldies provided by the DJ. The old cars and fast cars are fun to look at. Ahh there is a breeze right now. We ate the fried chicken special. Nothing frozen about this chicken. It was cooked perfectly. Light and crispy batter. Lightly seasoned. No secret herbs and seasoning. This was just like homemade. The chicken itself was salty enough. As I said it was cooked to perfection. This cook knows how to fry chicken. You get three reasonably sized prices. The perfect frying size. Two sides and a drink. Less than $ 10. It is enough to share if you each get a salad as a starter. By the way the craft beer is great. I not knowledgeable about beer so I rely on the menu description. This was right on and a perfect complement to the chicken dinner. Extra Billy got it right tonight.

It smelled funny in there, there isn’t proper ventilation in this joint, my husband and I left smelling like a dirty grease rag. The food isn’t bad, not great, they upcharge for any small little extras, that are a given at most places… after 2 refills of soda — you get charged for another soda… All in all, it’s a meh kind of eatery with freezer burned food in a worn out establishment. There really isn’t any wonder to why they likely aren’t getting a ton of new business. I can’t leave a 1 or 2 star review because it’s not a bad place, just outdated…

Best BBQ South of the river and second best in Richmond. Clean, good atmosphere, friendly staff, reasonable prices, great craft beer including their house brews, and great BBQ. Only place around that has beef ribs too.

Tried Extra Billy’s last week for the first time, it was not crowded and we were able to get seated quickly. I ordered the ‘Citra Ass Down IPA, it was pretty tasty while my family enjoyed some sweet tea. When the server said that the special was burnt ends I was excited as that is usually one of my favorites. Both my daughter and myself ordered the burnt ends and my wife ordered the pulled pork. The food arrived quickly, it was presented nicely but my ends were very dry and lean, I am used to some fatty content on the ends. overall it was acceptable but left something to be desired. As much of a pork fan as I am the sides usually are my favorites at BBQ joints, I ordered the collards and mac and cheese. Both were okay but nothing made me say Wow… I would probably go back again sometime, but will probably try to seek out some other place for my BBQ fix.
