Visit the Pottery Studio and Glaze Bar at Space Studios, an architecturally unique facility situated 3 miles west of downtown Midland, MI.

The Glaze Bar has a wide selection of ready-​to-​be painted, handcrafted pottery available on a walk-​in basis. All pieces are handmade and thrown by local potters. Our pottery bisque is dishwasher, microwave, oven and food safe.

The Pottery Studio is open 7 days a week, offering morning, afternoon and evening sessions to learn wheel throwing, handbuilding and glazing techniques. The Studio uses a stoneware clay body and offers a wide range of glaze options. Memberships are also available through our Clay Club.

Space is the perfect place for parties, get togethers and events, offering customized programs for birthdays, corporate team building, scout troops and more.

History

Established in 2006.

Owners Stephen and Kathy Space had been running a successful graphic design and pottery studio out of their home and need to expand. This resulted in the construction of a beautiful facility just outside of downtown Midland. The business continues to grow, with the addition of the Glaze Bar in 2010 and a new solar panel field added in 2013.

Hello! My name is Kathy Space and I’m a self taught potter with over 15 years of experience. My partner and husband, Stephen, is a graphic designer with over 30 years of experience. Together we operate Space Studios (the place for pottery) in Midland, Michigan. The studios main focus is to educate and share how pottery is made. In our Pottery Studio we teach beginning and advanced pottery. In our Glaze Bar we teach people how to paint with underglazes on bisqueware. Are you curious about how pottery is made? Stop by! We love to give studio tours and talk about clay.
