Specialties

15+ miles of trails open daily from dawn-​to-​dark. Our Visitor Center offers free admission to an Ecosystem Gallery, River Overlook, Wildlife Viewing Area, Nature Discovery Area and Nature Center Store. We also have a Homestead Farm and Log Schoolhouse open Memorial Day through Labor Day. Visit the Sugarhouse in March to see sap boiling demonstrations during Maple Syrup Season.

Enjoy naturalist led hikes, free walk-​in programs and pre-​registered field trips and workshops. From birding to kayaking and off-​site hikes to traditional skills and fly-​fishing programs, there are programs for youth, adults and families.

School programs, Nature Preschool and Nature Day Camp provide children with many opportunities for interaction with the natural world.

History

Established in 1966.

Chippewa Nature Center is a private nature center, open to the public year-​round. Its mission is to help people enjoy and learn about the environment, as well as to inspire and teach them how to be responsible stewards of the land, water and air.

This is a great nature center. We have done several of their activities including meteor watching and hiking their trails

LOVE going here. It’s so peaceful. There’s even a part called the homestead and they have animals at a certain time of the year. You can pet sheep, cows, pigs and chickens if the animals get close enough. You can also go inside of the building and see a very small museum type of set up. Towards the back there is a cut out in a «tree» for kids to play in and in the very back there is a little room where you can sit and bird watch, as well as other animals. I’ve seen turkeys and chipmunks there before. There’s also a section in the building with a scenic lookout and coffee and hot chocolate. Donations are accepted. There is a telescope in the room with the lookout. My friend and I actually saw a bald eagle and it’s nest through the telescope. Really cool place to wander around!

Great place to visit when in the area. Nice exhibits, great staff, miles of trails. Free entry. Special events thru the year. Great for families. 2 square miles of property on the river, just a couple miles from downtown Midland and connected by a hiking/​biking trail.
