Specialties
We serve the best soft-serve ice cream from Garelick, we have 18 flavors of hard ice cream from Bliss Bros., Gifford’s and Hershey’s (we picked our favorites), and we carry a great non-fat, low-sugar frozen soft-serve yogurt called Only8, which is safe for most diabetics and people w/lactose intolerance. We have the Flavor-burst system on our soft-serve vanilla ice cream and on the vanilla Only8 frozen yogurt. We have the best sherbet around, made on the premises from a very old recipe from the original Frosty Freez owners! We use our own famous RI company’s Autocrat extract to make our coffee soft-serve and our coffee syrup. Get your ice cream in cups or wafer cones, pints or quarts, sundaes, upside-down banana splits, shakes, freezes, floats, chocolate wafer cookies, and top them with our home-made real whipped cream, or any of the other many toppings we offer. We have great prices with really fast and friendly service, and it’s immaculate! 7,800 facebook fans can’t be wrong!
History
Established in 1956.
Leo Cassidy opened the «Tastee Freez» sometime in 1956, according to the limited records we could find. Neither Leo nor his wife Grace are with us anymore, but their small, family-oriented business still sits in the same building, serving Aquidneck Island families for over 50 years now. The name was changed to Frosty Freez at some point, but we haven’t been able to find out when; we are still actively seeking more historical information.
The Roppe’s purchased the business back in 1977, and their daughter Martine took over the shop in 1990, and ran it for the next 10 years. In June 2000, my husband and I became the 3rd «caretakers» of this little Middletown landmark. The building has gone through quite a few changes, as has Aquidneck Island, but the family atmosphere remains. We feel very fortunate to continue the tradition of serving a fun treat to our small community. Lots of people love if for its old-fashioned simplicity, and its continuity. And, of course, its great ice cream!
Meet the Business Owner
Kim and Mark P.
Business Owner
From restaurants, to daycare, to assisting adults with disabilities, I’ve had quite the career history. From restaurants, to carpentry, to becoming an electrician, the same goes for my husband. This is the longest job we’ve both ever had! It was a good move on our part, and when we’re not running around like crazy people, we really do enjoy running Frosty Freez. We’ve been extremely fortunate in our hires, we have wonderful employees who’ve made our job easier over the last 12 years, and have helped Frosty Freez continue its great reputation for good service! AND we live in a great community that supports its small businesses! It’s all good!
