I mean what can you say after marking 5 stars… this is the place to buy premium ice cream!

Great ice cream of course — always. But also it is a destination with batting cages, mini-​golf, or just walking around. Great place to go with the family-​all ages, hang out for an hour or so.

Richardson’s Ice Cream was a childhood staple, and it brings back so many happy memories. I love walking around and seeing their dairy cows, or playing mini golf over an ice cream cone. I live for Coffee Kahlua Brownie!

Why eat ice cream just in the summer heat? January is just as good.
When I called this past weekend to see if they were open, the man that answered the phone was pleasant and welcoming. We went, we even walked outside to go to the bathroom down 50 yards, no problem. OH. and I love dogs but leave them outside. They shouldn’t be mixing with food and people that don’t know if your dog behaves around people, kids and noise. Health code might prohibit them too unless it’s a service dog.
Freaking huge ass portions, great flavors and the ice cream was COLD. I miss cold ice cream. Not just chilled ice cream but down right cold good eating ice cream with hot fudge.
4 of us, counter help was pleasant and when I went to tip she said they were kept under the counter (wonder if nefarious people exist in Middleton) and when I tipped she was genuinely thankful.

You can’t beat the ice cream. Always delicious. I do wish they had an indoor bathroom for the patrons who come in the winter, especially the kids. When your three year old has to pee and you need to bundle her up, walk her outside in the dark across an icy driveway to the building next door it makes you wish you went somewhere else. I highly doubt there is no bathroom inside there for employees… Easy enough to let the kids go for safety reasons alone.

Richardson’s ice cream is awesome. I love the flavors. You can get it in lots of places in New England (a lot of places that say «homemade ice cream serve Richardson’s).
Just don’t go to the Middleton location. Over the past year or so, the management has changed (or become lazy). The hand packed ice cream isn’t packed any more. There is far more air in the already poured ice cream and yogurt, so it’s less bang for your buck.
And then there’s the dog situation. I take my pup pretty much everywhere. I mostly shop at places where he can come with me. So I always go to the windows to get ice cream. I’ve had people be snippy to me before on nights that the outside windows are closed. But I never go when there is a line inside. I don’t care about waiting my turn. I just want to keep my pup close.
The last time I went they said to leave my dog outside and come in to order. WTF. One of the best parts of going to Richardson’s was bringing my dog and walking around. No more.

Great food & fun for the family & group outings as Richardson’s also has mini golf, batting cages and practice golf range where you can hit buckets of golf balls… all on site next to the ice cream stand.

Forget apple pie, ice cream is as American as George Washington’s wooden teeth. And New Englanders know ice cream because it’s been a staple of this area for 10’s of generations. So stating something is basically the best in the entire six New England state area is fairly bold in nature.
But Richardson’s truly is the best given their reach into the small ice cream shops that dot the landscape and the following their headquarters in Middleton has on a ridiculously warm, August weekend night. As soon as you get out of your ride, the waft of cow manure and grass hits you in the nostrils. But not in a bad way, it just reminds you how fresh the cream going into your delectable treat truly is. The cows can’t be more than 500 feet away from the finished product and not a single one of them was harmed in the making of your sundae.
The lines can get super ridiculous on a busy night, I prefer it in either mid-​spring or autumn when it’s still warm enough to enjoy ice cream but the crowds and tourists are starting to stay away. They do move quickly and a pro tip is, go inside in the summer as most people just stop at the numerous windows outside but it really does go even faster inside. There aren’t a ton of tables inside but look around, there is a patio outside one can sit on and numerous benches out back where the animals are.
I can’t say one single bad thing about Richardson’s, I want to still take my grandkids here in 2055. I hope nothing changes but the rotation of flavors and the Richardson’s family still keeps making one of the best desserts on this wonderful planet.

This is a summer must do! Richardson’s ice cream is so cute — complete with driving ranges and mini-​golf. This is a great summer activity.
Must try: go for the chocolate chip cookie dough, although this place probably justifies multiple visits in the summer just to try all the amazing flavors they offer.

Ice cream was so fresh and they give you soooo much (even in the small sizes). I’m not use to this coming from the land of over priced small portions that are barely a mouthful.
The variety of flavors were not as extensive as the old 31 flavors shop, but the ice cream was pretty good.
After you’ve had that mega ice cream cone, you can visit the cuties in the back. They had chickens, calves, donkeys, goats and dairy cows. They all looked well cared for and healthy.

This has to be the most amazing ice cream parlor around! I would give them more stars if it was allowed. The total experience was just great. Lots of parking space on a very hot humid day, I actually got a spot right In front of the window. Lots of open windows to serve you. The server was awesome. He was very generous with samples. There was so many different flavors to choose from. I asked the young man serving me about the size, what he failed to tell me was that each scope is the size of three scopes in other places. I’m not a very big eater but wanted at least three flavors since they had so many unusual flavors. When he handed me my ice cream my eyes just popped with the amount of ice cream I was given for just $ 4.52! My only regret was that I didn’t have my dog with me to finish what I was unable to eat.

Portions are HUGE. Trust me — get a kids size. They have probably 50 flavors to choose from and let you try samples. There is always a line but it moves fast. My favorite flavor is the Milky Way. Lots of parking available.
The best part is that this is located on the cow farm which supplies the milk for the ice cream. It’s nice to know where the ingredients are coming from. They also sell milk by the gallon which is absolutely delicious.
I don’t even live in Massachusetts but I make it a point to stop by here (usually multiple times) each time I visit!

It is safe to say that richardsons is the best ice cream of my life! I’m sure after eating there today I can kiss my body goodbye. Ever since I found out about them months ago, I kept drooling at pictures of their ice cream on Unilocal and Instagram. I have been on a diet all summer and today I could finally somewhat afford the calories so I made a trip over from Cambridge. Their menu is overwhelming so I made sure to look over their flavors on their website and narrow down what flavors I wanted to try. They have a decent size parking lot and plenty of open windows. They had at least 7 windows to serve you and there was barely a wait on a hot Wednesday evening.
Between the two of us we sampled: Oreo yogurt, moose tracks yogurt, Reese’s peanut butter cup, krunch-​a-​Saurus, and blueberry pie. All were amazing and it was hard to decide on which flavors to try. The young man helping us explained that the sizes are kids (1 scoop), small (2 scoops), and large (3 scoops.) he did not tell you how large one scoop is! We debated and ended up getting a large with Oreo yogurt, Moose tracks yogurt and blueberry pie ice cream since it was their seasonal special. We thought getting two yogurts would save us some calories. Ha. When the young nan brought our cup over I could not believe my eyes. The scoops were the size of my face! If I had know they were so big I would’ve ordered a small.
I took our cup to the car and weighed it on my food scale. It weighed 21 ounces! That’s the biggest serving of ice cream I’ve gotten anywhere. The ice cream was seriously epic. The blueberry pie has actual blueberry pie chunks and they were far from stingy. Moose tracks yogurt had the most amazing hardened fudge and little peanut butter cups. The Oreo frozen yogurt was my favorite. It was so creamy I almost don’t believe it was yogurt and they did not skimp on the Oreos. I got huge chunks in every spoon.
I have always thought of Jp licks as the gold standard for ice cream. After trying richardsons they are now my favorite even over my precious Jp licks. Their large is over double the ounces of Jp licks large (21 ounces vs 11 ounces) and the price is significantly cheaper.
It’s kind of a relief that I live far from richardsons or the temptation would be there to visit them everyday. I know I’ll be craving their ice cream everyday from now on.

We talk about Richardson’s even when we are at home – it’s that delish. Normally five stars. If I could give a percentage, it was 3 ½ stars (a 70% experience).
Ice cream (only) — five stars. As good as it gets.
Service — 2 ½ stars. Our teenage cashier (female) that night was a total bitch – even my brother-​in-​law who owns a couple of restaurants commented on the cashier. She should consider a summer job where she does not have to deal with the public.

We were just getting some late night ice cream and wow. This place is amazing, fantastic ice cream I mean all kinds of flavors and toppings. The small is still a decent size so don’t go bigger if you don’t need to. The pricing is really good too, not overly expensive at all. Few places have a lot of peanut butter kind of ice cream and this place had at least 4 different flavors. Probably more of you ask what’s in the ice creams. Place is always busy so don’t be surprised with the lines, it’s just that good.

The perks of being in the burbs are the farms. Farms lead to fresh milk. Fresh milk leads to some pretty amazing ice cream with generous portions. For under $ 5, I got 2 giant scoops of ice cream in a waffle cone. The blueberry pie special of the month was everything you’d imagine it’d be and more. The creamy ice cream had little chunks of blueberry pie. Absolutely mind blowing! Definitely coming back

This place is a must stop tourist with kids and summertime destination spot. Crowds of people are lined up outside for huge scoops of ice cream. The kids size is equivalent to an adult medium. The portions are generous. My sundae had 2 heaping scoops topped with whipped cream, fudge, and cherry.
Here are some tips:
1. Buy fresh milk and packaged ice cream inside
2. Park along the back where the animals are
3. Feed chickens, goats, and turkey
4. Visit the maternity ward and the little calves
5. Get the sundae and walk it down with milk
Kids loved running around the farm and the photo opportunities are endless. It’s a 2 – 3 hour venture and worth the drive from Boston.

How have I not reviewed Richardson’s?!? Omg this place was a staple in my childhood and I continue to frequent there when friends visit from out of town.
It’s an amazing farm with delicious ice cream. You wait in line inside or outside for fabulously yummy ice cream or frozen yogurt and then take the ice cream around back to pet cows or talk to the goats. Often the baby cows are outside and each animal is well cared for. The big mamas give the milk for the milk and ice cream produced and it’s still a family run farm (one of the only left in the area).
If you want some more fun, next door there’s a mini golf and a golf range for summer and springtime fun! It’s seriously the best place for a fun date night, catching up with girlfriends, family night or just stopping by on the way home from work to appreciate good ice cream and a little bit of lasting nature and farm animals.
