Cabo’s Ice Cream Shop

Fun atmosphere. Great outside patio. Very unique and delicious favors! They were quick to offer samples and tell us a little bit about their story. A must stop!

We all scream for Cabo’s ice cream! They make their ice cream for scratch themselves so they always have different flavors to try! And they’re always unique!
Personal favorites that I’ve had: the salted caramel, the Can’t Stop Won’t Stop (salted caramel with different chocolate candies mixed in), the Cookie Monster (vanilla ice cream with cookies mixed in), and the Blueberry cheesecake.
Can’t wait to come back on another summer day for a cold refreshing treat!

We came at 3:30 on a Sunday. Hours were clearly marked on the door as 1 – 7, but they were not open.

Just went on the last day before they close for the season, excellent homemade ice cream. Tried the strawberry butter flavor and it was excellent! Would go back!

Limited selection of only unusual flavors. Homemade ice cream/​popsicle bars were good. Next time I would skip this place and drive a few miles to Oinks.

Better than any of the other local ice cream shops. Trying to get in as many flavors as I can before summer is over!

First of all, best ice cream I have had in my life! It seems to be family run, and they make things from scratch. If you are friendly they may let you sample experimental flavors.
I freaking love ice cream so not only did i get a coconut and coffee popsicle, i also got a scoop of cotton candy. I then smeared the ice cream onto the popsicle and ate it. I recognize this sounds really weird, but trust me I enjoyed it. I’m not promising YOU will, but *I* did and that is what is important. I asked her about horchata ie cream and she let me sample a small taste of RUMchata ice cream, as well as a baby popsicle that was patron with strawberries.
My friends both got chocolate covered bananas and seemed quite pleased.
All in all an amazing shop, definitely going to become a must-​visit whenever I am in the area. If you dont go you are missing out.
If you go and hate it you probably should re-​evaluate your life and find out what is wrong with you.

You can just tell upon walking in when the owner has put their heart and soul into the their restaurant. That is certainly the case at Cabo’s Ice Cream Shop in Michigan City, Indiana. The décor is charming and unique, nothing fancy, and the food is delicious. I usually come on lunch to eat the Steak Torta, which is insanely good. My wife, however, will often drive 40 minutes to eat lunch and enjoy the natural, home made ice cream with our son. I am not a food aficionado and rarely write reviews but I just had to give the folks at Cabo’s some props for delivering such a consistently excellent experience.

The best torta I’ve ever had was in Mexico (Hermosillo). But today a friend suggested we head over to Cabo’s Ice Cream Shop for lunch and I would have to say this is the second best torta I’ve had.
The bun is not the usual bolillo. Instead they use telera which turns out to be similar to bolillo but a bit softer in texture. The bread is grilled which means the inside face of the bread is crunchy while the rest of the sandwich is soft. We both ordered steak tortas and they were outstanding.
The steak was seasoned perfect, not too much, not too little. The only thing it could have used was sliced avocado but the torta itself was close to perfection already.
Afterwards, we tasted some of the helados — the butter, the mexican carmel, and the cheese (seriously… it’s delicious goat cheese turned into ice cream) were incredibly good. Can’t wait to head back on a hot day to indulge in ice cream!

Absolutely love this place! My 5 year old is in love with the home made Popsicles & they make for a great treat! The staff is ALWAYS so friendly and I love the atmosphere! Would highly recommend for anyone with a sweet tooth to check this great little place out!

Ice cream shop is adorable and so is the staff. Ice cream is made in house with fresh ingredients. Makes perfect sense to me.

What a great addition to Michigan City. My family and I love this place! You have to try the nachos and then of course get a yummy waffle ice cream cone! TO DIE FOR!

We liked this little place, found it by accident end of summer of 2012 driving back home from the dunes driving further off the highway exit to avoid all the chain restaurants. So much better to get some freshly made, tasty and affordable dinner and ice cream for the family. Nice service at the counter made it very pleasant, after which we sat outside on the deck to enjoy everything. Will stop by again next dunes beach trip going forward.

I absolutely love their strawberry and pistachio ice cream. They also have fantastic steak tacos!

Great food! It’s so difficult to find a place that makes all natural products. The ice cream is so different… creamy…no fructose corn syrup… natural fruit… amazing! It’s so fresh! The food is authentic Mexican cuisine made from the heart… you can tell they make the food as if their cooking for their own family! Love it! So needed in this town :-)
