I noticed this recently opened Italian restaurant and decided to give it a shot. Probably mostly because I was wondering what the heck a «tigelle» was. I ended up very happy that I’d tried Vino & Tigelle and look forward to returning. The menu lists a few different options for tigelle as well as a few of the more common Italian options like some fairly standard looking pasta choices. I went with the classic tigelle. Here’s the deal with tigelle: it’s a soft, warm bread, thinner than an English muffin and a bit smaller in diameter. The classic tigelle came with a selection of meat(prosciutto, salami, pepperoni, and ham) and a basket of five tigelle to stuff to one’s satisfaction. It also came with a board of various accompaniments — a gorgonzola spread(delicious), honey, sauteed onions(these were served warm), and a tomato based sauce(this, I did not try). I was very pleased with the quality of the meat and the bread, but it was the addition of the accompaniments that really brought it all together. All in all, an excellent meal. Other options are tigelle with various roast or grilled vegetables, or tigelle with cheese. Would definitely be interested in trying these on future visits. One area where V&T could improve — they are chilling their red wines way too much. Would be much better if they eased up. I think V&T is a welcome addition to downtown with some offerings that set them apart from the other pasta-focused Italian restaurants nearby.
