The Salty Donut is an Artisanal Donut Shop & Coffee Bar focused on chef-​made, small-​batch craft donuts using nothing but the highest quality ingredients and making EVERYTHING in house! We also have an incredibly unique coffee program, featuring rotating coffees with interesting flavor profiles, crafted by some of the best baristas around! Our pop-​up opens Dec. 3rd and will be open every Fri-​Sun until our store opens early 2016!

History

Established in 2015.

The Salty came to be because of a void in our beloved South Florida community. The entire country is experiencing a blossoming of craft donut shops and amazing coffee bars that offer unique coffee experiences, and South Florida is EONS behind in both of those categories. It’s a well-​known fact that SoFla tends to be on the tail-​end of gastronomic trends, but no longer — we’ve worked incredibly hard, traveled/​tasted all around the US and pushed the boundaries to make sure we don’t only have an AWESOME craft donut shop & coffee bar by ‘Miami standards’, but one of the best donut shops and coffee bars in the nation. We hope you love what we’re doing as much as we do, and we’re SO excited to bring craft donuts and third wave coffee to our much-​loved South Florida community!

Coming from a business background focused in ‘start-​ups’, I’ve done my best to launch and grow small businesses that had the BEST products in their respective fields. It’s been challenging and fun, but I’ve always felt that what I really wanted to do was something in my local community, since all of my past ventures were primarily focused outside of the state. Being a SUPER lover of all things food/​wine/​coffee/​travel (borderline obsession to be honest), with frustration as to why my hometown of South Florida was always one of the last major US cities to adopt new food trends and higher, more consistent food/​coffee standards, I knew that for my next venture, I just HAD to do something about this! So, with my marketing-​guru of a fiancée and our amazing pastry chef Max Santiago (who’s worked with South Florida staples such as Michelle Bernstein), we worked endlessly for almost 2 years to bring this concept to life and enrich South Florida with a little more donut & coffee love!

These donuts are really delicious. I would recommend anyone to come here! The maple bacon donut was absolutely amazing and so we’re all the other flavors. I’d say the pricing is very fair for such large artisanal donuts and the coffee was great too!

tl;dr Get here early if you want a wider selection of donuts. WORTH GOING TO!
Key Lime Pie (8⁄10): Gorgeous presentation and very true to the taste. It was a bit too sweet for me, but it tasted exactly like if you made a creamy version of a key lime pie and stuffed it into a warm, moist donut shell. Near the end, it did feel a bit heavy and I couldn’t finish it :’(
Brown Butter Salt (9⁄10): I would recommend getting this one over the key lime pie. The flavors were very well balanced so it wasn’t too sweet or heavy (the salt was a really good touch). It’s a cake-​y donut with the brown butter salt cream on top.
I can’t wait to return here and try the other flavors :)
Note 1: never make the mistake of accidentally coming here on national donut day. They run out hella fast! (2pm)
Note 2: The second time I came back was on a saturday and by 5pm, they only had the key lime & brown butter salt donuts left. If you want to try the traditional, maple & bacon, samoa cooke, or «spiked» donut holes, definitely get here a lot earlier!

I tried donuts from here a few months back thanks to my Unilocal BFF who waited in the infamous long lines to acquire these legendary rings of confectionery magic. I absolutely loved the maple bacon donut. Never had anything like it, but the combo of the sweet and salty on top of a perfectly raised brioche bun was a dream. I tried a few more ones that were cake based, but the maple bacon one took the crown.
I finally made it to the pop-​up towards their closing time and was surprised to find no wait! They only had a few more kinds left and unfortunately they didn’t have the ones that I really wanted to try, the brown butter + salt and the traditional glazed buttermilk. I tried one of their weekly flavor specials, the key lime pie donut. It was the most beautifully presented donut, filled with a delicious key lime filling. Even though it was the end of the day, the donuts still tasted fresh. Right next to the trailer there’s a coffee station. I got the cereal milk latte, which is basically cinnamon toast crunch infused milk with espresso (genius right?), the perfect afternoon pick-​me-​up to go with the donuts.

Salty Donut! This is a great pop-​up in Wynwood. I tried every flavor available that day. The Peaches and Cream and Guava were my favorite. Spiked donut holes are a good for small bites. Must check this out ! Please note, their limited hours.

So I think this place is my new obsession and being that I only live four blocks away, I have to pace myself not to go into a donut craze every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
Firstly I’ll say that they’re donuts definitely could be 5 stars but because of the freshness they get a 4, possibly a 4.5. You can tell that they were made that morning — they’re not stale by any means at all. But they’re cooled down to room temperature and that’s what you’re sold. So no hot or warm donuts here. BUT, if you warm them up in the toaster oven for a few minutes or the microwave for a 15 seconds… tastebud heaven. The 4 points instead of 5 is simply for that. I hope they open a store so we could get warm donuts.
Now for the flavor, which is what keeps people going back. The Maple Bacon is by far my favorite followed by the Key Lime which is amazing. The Brown Butter and Salt is a cake batter donut which I thought was dry. The icing I loved but I feel it would taste better with the brioche dough or with a more moist dough, but until then I don’t think I would get that flavor again. The flavor was good but I couldn’t hold it in my hands without it crumbling apart.
The lines are long, yes. The sun is hella hot, it’s Miami. Is it worth the wait? For the Maple Bacon and Key Lime, yeah I think it is.

Went on a Saturday around 11:30 am on a hot sunny Miami day. I almost turned around and went home when i saw the long line but something told me to stay. After waiting anxiously in line for 40 min i placed my order. We were so undecided we ordered one of each. Here it goes!
Bacon Maple — pure awesomeness! Salty yet sweet bacon tops this baby.
Guava cheese– refreshing taste just like guava pastelitos.
Key Lime– yummmm taste just like the pie.
Somoa– taste like the girlscout cookie. My least favorite.
Salted caramel– salty caramel flavor
Nutella holes– yum. Taste like a Ferrero chocalate.
Cuban iced coffee– perfect goodness wish it came in a bigger size! $ 5
Overall they are delicious. I now am in a diabetic coma but all good! Its a Pop up shop so its a little hidden outdoor space with tents and outdoor seating. Hope they open a store soon!

Best doughnuts in Miami!
I love gourmet doughnuts, so having a gourmet doughnut shop closer to home is great! We had the spiked doughnut holes which were very sweet and delicious, we also had the oreo and nutella doughnuts. Great dougnuts!

These are not your average doughnuts and I’m so thankful for that! The great thing about Salty Donut is that on top of their year round donut flavors, they will rotate some delicious weekly offerings as well. They do tend to sell out rather quickly sometimes so I would suggest getting there as early as you can.
We showed up on a Saturday at 3:30 and there was no line but 5 minutes later the small space began to quickly fill up. We ended up getting a box full of spiked donut holes (24 hour raised brioche donut holes with a shot of their favorite liquor reduction), the traditional glazed, maple bacon and a weekly chocolate/​berry flavor. The spiked donut holes are very sweet and taste even better when soaked with the liquor reduction, major score for me since I have a huge sweet tooth. The traditional glazed was nice and soft, none of that flaky hardening glaze due to being left out.
Come on an empty stomach because you will really want to try ALL of their flavors! For those who are watching what they eat, they have a baked donut that is low in calories. I can definitely see myself as a regular customer of Salty Donut, I find myself wanting to go back with each new weekly flavor.

OMG! The best donuts I have ever tried and ever since I be tried it I ve been coming back for more. I go once a week to get my dose of sweet and I just love my new habit. My absolute favorite one is brown butter salt, but I always get a couple of other ones. Each week they have different special ones and I always try somethings new. What’s great about it is that if my friends and I don’t eat them all at once I put them in a fridge and they taste delicious the next day too.
Thank you Salty Donuts for being soooo delicious! It’s one of those things that you don’t even feel guilty of when eating because it tastes like heaven.

I thought I had wrote a review for this place already. This place popped up during 2015 art basel and it was so hype. I got around to trying it sometime in January and the hype is real! We decided to go on the weekend (I believe it is only when they are open since they are a pop up shop) and the line was huge! It was about a 35 – 40 min wait.
But the donuts are worth it! They are super gourmet and you can taste the delicacy in them. They tend to get pricey when you buy 2 of every flavor 12 – 16 donuts for ~ 60 $ (le beau loves anything sweet so he gets kind of crazy) I would say my favorite is the Boston cream pie. It is lite, perfectly sweet, and you taste the quality.
I would definitely recommend trying them just to indulge a little bit and order 1 or 2 donuts.

Decided to visit here to see what all the hype is about, and heard about the notorious long lines. We went on a Saturday morning and got here by 10:15am, and there was no line! Parking was super easy tho :) so we walked to panther coffee and came back by 10:35am, and there were about 10 people lined up. We were still pretty close to the front, which is shaded and has fans which is nice in the Miami Heat. They open at 11am and we had our order by 11:10am. Of note, the line at 11am was wrapped around the outside of the place!
We ordered the guava & cheese, brown butter salt, traditional, Oreo donut holes and Nutella donut holes. Honestly they were ok, nothing special. The guava & cheese was by far the best, probably because it had a filling that made it moist. The brown butter salt and traditional were disappointing, they were dry and tasted stale. The Oreo hole was the same– dry and lacking. The Nutella was better, it tasted like Ferrero Rocher candy.
For a 40++min wait, we expected more :(

I had very high expectations coming here especially when I arrived and saw the line a mere 10 minutes after opening. The wait was probably around 30 minutes. I loved the concept of ordering from the small food truck and being able to sit in the shade at the picnic tables. Definitely has the hipster ambience of Wynwood.
For drinks we ordered the cereal milk latte and the palmar cold brew. The cereal milk latte was good but did not live up to what I hoped it would be. The palmar cold brew stole the show! Who would have thought to combine cold brew coffee with lemonade??? What an awkward pairing… that turned out to be outrageously delectable. I would come back for this alone!!!
We ordered a large variety of donuts. My favorite was the guava and cheese followed by the brown butter. The guava was very sweet but the consistency of the dough was the best in this one. All of the others were very dry and dense. We only finished the guava, there were pieces of every other donut left. We also tried some of them donut hole shooters. These again were dry and dense for my taste. While I would come back here, I would not make a special trip when in the mood for gourmet donuts.

Salty Donut how I’ve been waiting for a spot like you to pop up in the 305.
Tried to go once on a Saturday at 2pm — biggest mistake ever. The line was down the block. Next attempt was on a weekday at opening time — said line was much shorter but still 35 min long. What is this, Peter Pan’s Flight at Magic Kingdom? Craziness!
I stood patiently in a sea of hipsters and a sad young lady in corporate attire who must be the intern or the office slave bc she left with 3 dozen donuts and pit stains from standing in the sun wearing Ann Taylor’s finest corporate threads.
I ordered 6 donuts — key lime, berry something, brown butter salt, traditional, maple bacon and guava/​cheese. I wasn’t blow away but didn’t leave terribly unsatisfied either. I particularly enjoyed the maple bacon (because bacon!), the brown butter salt and the traditional. Brown butter was my favorite. The donuts were a bit dense for my taste but they were really good.
I also had the cereal milk latte which was obscenely delicious and so worth the line and calories.

Alright, so I’ve been waiting months for the hype to die down enough to the point where I don’t have to stand in line for hours to get some donuts. Today was the day. I arrived around 11:15am, only 5 people in front me in line! Score! I had already checked out The Salty Donut’s menu online and as I approached the order window, preferred method of payment in hand, I placed my order!
I got One of Each except the Guava and Cheese (I know, i know, soy una Cubana arrepentida!) Anyway, I made my way to the Latte stand as I also ordered a Cereal Milk Iced Latte to go with my box of goodies!
The Latte was good, not what I expected but obvious quality ingredients were used. Would not order again though.
Now onto the Donuts, they were good. Better than Dunkin obviously, but I think they will be better once the Salty Donuts storefront opens and one can procure freshly made, warm, donuts.
For this reason I give my 3 stars.
It’s obvious the donuts are created with love and care, my only wish is that they were fresher.
All in all, it is apparent that quality ingredients are used. Thumbs up to the creators for bringing much needed delicious donuts to Miami.
Can’t wait to try your storefront and update my review accordingly at that time.

Let me start by saying that I will never allow my husband to choose my doughnuts for me. We were in the area for the Flea & Wynwood Life and wanted to finally try these hyped doughnuts. So while I went on to run a few errands, he went over to get our doughnuts. We couldn’t get too many, because we weren’t going straight home. And no matter how hard we try, we wouldn’t be able to polish off even a half dozen. I digress. He said that the line wasn’t too bad, it was around 1PM and the line was just right up to the gate and before the shady tent area. However, it did take him ½ hour to get to the front.
He came back with a Guava Cream Cheese for him, Banana Nut for me and Oreo holes to share. Now, just looking at the doughnuts, I was a bit disappointed cause his was beautiful & fluffy and mine was dense, cakey & just meh. Then I tasted it and I almost cried. I was not happy and I was done after one bite. On the other hand, he was devouring his beautiful doughnut and oohing & aahing.
I don’t like Guava. I must be the only person of Cuban descent that does not. I say that he chose this doughnut so that he wouldn’t have to share. Though he denies it. Anyhoo, I did steal a bite or two of the doughnut without the filling and it was absolutely delicious. The doughnut holes were nice but I would have preferred the ones with rum or Nutella.
When I got home, I looked up the other available flavors online. Seriously dude, of all the amazing options, you chose to bring me the Banana Nut which I found out was GF & Vegan! I’m neither of those two. I’m sure that anyone with those dietary needs would enjoy that doughnut, but I’m not one of them.
I will definitely return, but I’ll order for myself.

Three words: Baked Samoa Doughnut. I managed to have this during our second trip to the Salty Donut and it was an experience for the tastebuds — incredibly moist and flavorful. And its vegan!!! Not that this matters to me but only mentioning in case the word makes others think it equates to not being tasty. It was more like a cake than doughnut and oh so glorious. Other flavors I’ve enjoyed include guava and cheese, brown butter, and of course the maple bacon. My husband is a huge fan of the margarita and Nutella doughnut holes.
Regarding the line — I’ll admit, standing in line for anything food related is not something I willingly concede to do often but the tent is a nice addition to help keep patrons shaded while waiting to get their fix.

I did not enjoy the donuts at The Salty Donut as much as other people seem to. While they weren’t bad, I would not get them again.
We happened to drive by the pop-​up location while the line was not too long, and there was parking right in front, so we parked, got out, and waited in line. We waited about 15 minutes in line on a Saturday at about 4pm, and only a couple things were sold out. I don’t think this is typical, but there were a lot of other things going on that weekend in Miami (e.g., the South Beach Food and Wine Fest) and shortly after we joined the line, it got much longer and stretched out to the sidewalk. I think we just lucked out.
Once we got to the front, we ordered a Boston Crème, a Brown Butter Salt, a Samoa, 2 margarita spiked donut holes, and an oreo donut hole. Of them, the spiked donut hole and the bostone crème were my favorite. However, I wouldn’t say that I loved any of them, and I probably would not try them again. They just did not suit my tastes.
I will say that despite it being late on a Saturday and having a long line of people, the person who took our order was incredibly friendly and pleasant and was treating each customer like the special little snowflakes we all think we are. While waiting in line, there was shade from a large tree and music was playing. So, even though the donuts weren’t my favorite, the rest of the experience was positive.

I’ll put it this way: I stood in line in the rain and then very hot heat for an hour to get these donuts. I do not in any way regret my decision.
The donuts were incredible. The Nutella donut hole tastes just like a Ferrero rocher. We also had the maple bacon, Moscow mule donut holes, cookies and cream, strawberry lemon, and the original glazed. All were light, tasty, and delicious. The strawberry lemon, maple bacon, and donut holes were the main stars.
The only con is the line. We arrived thirty minutes before it opened and still waited an hour. The line moves very slowly, so be prepared to wait. Don’t let that stop you from hitting up the place. It’s well worth the wait.

Certainly one of the best donut places in South Florida. The Boston Cream donut $ 3.25 and Guava + Cheese $ 3.25 donut were my favorite of the variety of donuts our family split. The creamy vanilla and guava/​cheese fillings were much needed moisture. I’ll probably eat them with some ice cream next time.
I didn’t realize that I was missing a Maple Bacon donut and received a Brown Butter donut instead until I checked the boxes when I put them in my trunk. I had to walk all the way back to let them know. I had my email receipt ready. They happily acknowledged their mistake and switched out the donut. Acknowledging an error and not blaming the customer is rare in Miami, so I appreciated that.
I look forward to their permanent location in hopes of trying freshly baked/​hot donuts. The donuts are tasty and most have a great presentation (just look at the beautiful color on the Blueberry Crumb $ 2.75!) but they are not necessarily the best doughnuts I’ve ever had in the US.

Pop up in the Wynwood area that’s waiting for their store to be finished being built across the street.
They are open Friday– Sunday 11 am til 6 or most likely sell out! They have a small trailer where they sell their Donuts and and small table next to it serving iced coffee, lattes, and coffee. They also have a few picnic tables to sit down on and enjoy your meal. My favorite donut is the maple bacon donut that uses bacon from Miami Smokers. The sweetness from the maple syrup works well with the savory taste from the bacon. A perfect combination. I recommend that you get there early so you won’t wait long and they don’t sell out of your favorite Donuts!
