History

Established in 2005.

Initially opened in March 2005 by Lauren Reskin and Sara Yousuf, two best friends dedicated to Miami’s colorful scene, Sweat Records has played a major part in instigating a renaissance of growth and activity in Miami’s cultural landscape.

After debuting to cheers all around, Sweat survived it’s first location being destroyed by Hurricane Wilma in October 2005 and held steady for a while in a small warehouse in the back of Churchill’s. In 2007 their dream space next door became available and they’ve been improving it constantly and expanding their inventory ever since.

The shop is now better than ever and Sweat’s third location brought the addition of a full-service organic coffee counter and multi-purpose, all-ages event space. Sweat also continues to put on tons of great concerts and host a wide variety of in-store events, movie screenings, and other random (sub)cultural happenings around Miami.

Meet the Business Owner

Lolo R.

Business Owner

Lauren (Lolo) Reskin was born in Miami and loved the city (and the weather) so much she never left. Being raised by a family of classical musicians, music is in her blood. During high school, Lolo convinced the local Virgin Megastore to hire her 16-year-old overenthusiastic self and it was all downhill from there. She spent the next nearly six years selling CDs, DJing, promoting club nights, working in college radio and booking shows in preparation to give her hometown the thing it needed most — a real live, community-oriented, indie record store.

Since opening in March 2005, Sweat Records has become an institution in its own right, and Lolo continues to be passionately involved in the local cultural landscape. She was a member of Miami Fellows Class VII and is currently serving her second term as Secretary of the Florida Chapter Board of the Recording Academy. Lolo currently DJs vintage ‘40s-‘60s tunes weekly at «Timeless Thursdays» at the Delano.
