ordered pad thai at 6 in the morning, I guess the chef was a little sleepy because my pad thai tastes like its dessert

Reasonable sushi joint, for being in an airport. Seriously, people, you need to tune your expectations, it’s not like airport food options are that great. The place delivers reasonable rolls, and the fish is fresh even if badly cut in sashimi. Miso soup to forget. Price not terribly high. The service is not terribly good(but, hey, again, reality check: airport joint!) and they tend to serve you quickly and then forget about you at check time. Quite bad if you have to run to catch your flight.

Terrible service and the sushi itself was not fresh enough for consumption. I’d go someplace else.

This airport sushi place deserves more than 2 stars. I spend alot of time traveling for leisure and for work. Every time I go through Miami airport I get the shrimp tempura udon noodle here. The noodles are fresh; the tempura shrimp is never over cooked, and the soup is always piping hot with just the right amount of vegetables. After days and weeks of eating strange foods abroad and hours of sitting in cramped airplane seats jamming disgustingly greasy«chicken or pasta» down my throat, Sushi Maki’s Udon always hits my spot just right.

Admittedly, experiments in fusion cuisine are hit and miss but the sushi taco here deserved better. The spicy tuna wasn’t sliced fish rather it was a fish purée or paste spooned into a greasy shell. Grim. Service is about as attentive as you can expect in an airport eatery. As a single diner, an unexpected surprise was seeing a 18% gratuity calculated into my bill… then when I paid in cash only the bills of my change were returned sans the coins. So it’s 18% and then round up.

We recently had a five hour stop in Miami International Airport. Our flight landed at 6:30 am and of course there was only one question on our minds«Where to get the most important meal of the day– breakfast?» I don’t have to tell you that most people don’t have much expectations for airport food. It is usually very pricey and generic quality. So, when you already have low expectations — it is very hard to be surprised and find the place that falls below already low standards. But we got«lucky» and found place like that! I felt suspicious right away(all American breakfast in Japanese restaurant), but hostess reassured us that they have been serving breakfast for many years now and it is fine. The waitress took our order right away and from that point on things went down the hill. We ordered two hot chocolates $ 3.25×2, western omelet(my hubby asked NOT to put in any bell peppers) $ 7.85 and bagel with lox $ 10.25(I thought it should be pretty good considering that we are in the place where sea food is a «specialty»). The hot chocolate came without whip cream and when we asked for it we were told that they do not carry it?!(may be it is the sign of Japanese minimalism :) BTW the staff was truly multicultural(so, we should not be making any labels– I am a foreigner myself :) The omelet was generously stuffed with bell peppers. The toast had no butter. I have to admire my hubby patients: he separated and took out every single piece of bell pepper from his omelet. I guess that was a part of the experience too: developing patience and tenacity. My bagel happen to taste«funny». Not just taste, but texture was«funny». First I couldn’t even figure out what is going on. All I knew until now were only«Noe’s Bagels». The answer after all was simple: the bagels were«pre made«(I mean toasted and cream cheesed) the day before, hopefully not a couple days before and then wormed up in microwave. Yes, with cream cheese on it. It was terrible. First we didn’t even have energy to complain. The flight was exhausting. But the feeling being cheated and being taken for a fool gave me «wings». First, I complained to waiter. He took my plate away and… nothing happen during the next thirty minutes. Than we complained to another waiter, than manager came in. He listen to us and apologized. He took all charges off the bill. We payed only for«naked» hot chocolate $ 7.00 I do not know what kind sushi they are making in this place, but breakfast is not«living up to airport standards» :)
