SubZero Ice Cream is one of a kind. We create ice cream fresh, right before your eyes in about 30 seconds with liquid nitrogen at 321 degrees below zero in a plume of vapor mist and lights.

Prepare to be amazed and we only use the freshest ingredients in all our bases, which are all gluten free. We have ice cream for every diet. Our bases include Premium, Low Fat, Custard, Yogurt, Sugar Free, No Sugar Added, Lactose Free, Vegan/​Vegetarian and Almond Milk. So, ice cream for everyone! We offer over 37 flavors and 36 mix ins to choose from.

We also have the best, freshest smoothies on the planet, made with only fresh fruit, milk shakes made the old fashioned way, malted milk shakes too! With no ice you get a real old-​fashioned milk shake, just like the good old days and we make homemade waffles with our special recipe every 2 hours.

I freaking love this place! There’s not one time I’ve been and the customer service hasn’t been on point! One of the last times I went there was this young guy that was so knowledgable and I know we’re just talking about Ice cream but he helps me pick the right combo based off what I liked and the results were amazing! Great great great! A must try!

Always a very CLEAN, friendly and most importantly delicious establishment. I try a new flavor and mix in every time I stop by and I’ve NEVER been disappointed. I’ve tried other nitrogen ice cream and this is by FAR the best. Great after dinner treat!

Spoons are too soft. Takes too long to prepare by hand, prefer the machine. Very plain and land inside, no decoration to fit the «subzero» theme. Maybe it was the ice cream I had but it wasn’t good at all. Sorry guys! I’ll stick to Brain Freeze any day!

Loving this place on Flagger street!!! The ice cream in this place is way superior then most I’ve tried. There flavor combinations are awesome, I really recommend number four on the board. Waffle cones are mad fresh in the moment so they are crispy and warm. They also have a cuban coffee ice cream that is unique to their location that is out of this world!!!

Subzero is so good! Been to other nitrogen ice cream places and what stands out to me the most about this one is how even though it’s a franchise the owner greets you and talks to you which makes it feel like a small mom-​and-​pop ice cream shop! It’s very rare to get that type of interaction these days. He was very helpful when I ordered my pie and showed me all the options they had, he was there with me for 10 – 15 minutes making sure of every detail that was going into this pie. It really stood out! I’ve gone a few times at night when those ice cream craving kick in and have tried several different combination, haven’t had one I didn’t like.
Why I didn’t give it 5 stars?
1. The wait sometimes is really long
2. Small, not a lot of space to sit or stand

Thumbs up for being a healthy choice but not for tasting like ice cream at all.
Just came home from the worst «cheat day» ever. Had this «ice cream» and it was not worth it at all. Also had pizza from Manhattan Chicago Pizza and it was the worst pizza ever.
The ice cream is literally your milk of choice for base and syrup of your choice as flavor. You can add as many toppings as you’d like for extra charge and then they pass nitrogen through the liquid mix and then comes the pounding of this so called ice cream they make. Which makes the place extremely LOUD.
You can tell immediately that the ice cream isn’t creamy at all. It looks like flavored watered ice. It tasted like frozen watered down chocolate.
I was not happy at all.
The one good thing about all this is the fact that all disappointment aside. This ice cream could actually be very healthy. Being that it is just frozen milk of your choice (almond milk, soy free, regular milk, etc) and they even have Whey protein. But I was not happy because I was looking for the real deal. For a healthy ice cream fix then I recommend this spot.
But it’s not ice cream.

So I have seen this ice cream place a few times before since I usually go to chicken kitchen a few stores down. Today my boyfriend and I decided to give it a shot.
We walked in and started looking at the menu shortly after we placed our orders, while the young lady was preparing our ice cream I was horrified to see that there was a roach crawling on the counter. When I told the employee at the time about it she laughed it off, I actually ended up having to kill the roach myself with the tip jar. I was disappointed and disgusted!!! Tonight was the first and last time for this place, it’s unfortunate but I will never go back.

This place is so fun and delicious!
I don’t eat dairy and I try to stay away from chemical sh*tstorms as much as possible. Going out for ice cream is something I haven’t been able to do in years, until I discovered SubZero.
First you choose the base for your ice cream (real cream, vegan, soy, almond milk, and a couple other options I can’t rembeber), then you choose the flavor and toppings. It’s all put into a bowl and frozen with nitrogen gas right in front of your eyes. This gets you major cool points with kids.
They have options for everyone, which is what got me here in the first place. Gluten free, peanut free (they’ll being your toppings from the back), lacrosse free, dairy free… they’ve got everyone covered.
I had almond milk vanilla ice cream with waffle cone crumbs and it was fantastic. I can’t wait to go back for more.
They also cater parties and do fundraisers.

Great little place to bring the kids for ice cream. I agree with the previous review that stated that it «doesn’t look like much» when they’re adding the toppings — I felt the same way and it ended up being plenty! The prices are similar to what you would pay at Coldstone or DQ. It’s pretty cool to watch, and there are a ton of mix and match options to satisfy even the pickiest of clients.

Consistently good. Fresh ice cream, made to order and watching it be made to order? That’s the cherry on top! Lots of great selections, friendly staff and the owner comes and yuks it up with the common folk. What would make this a 5? Better seating.
That said, RUN and get you some Sub zero!

Walked I and it was warm.
We waited for about 15 minutes before we it was our turn to order and there was only a mom with a kid in front of us.
I like that they have different milks for the ice cream base (lactose free, soy, almond milk, skin, etc…) ice was ok.

The only reason I see this place sticking around is due to its great location (where Dairy Queen used to be). Otherwise, it doesn’t come close to being as good as its main competitor, «Chill-​N» in Pinecrest. Why? For starters the menu feels overloaded, and they seem understaffed. The whole operation feels like a cheap imitation. The final product was something that resembled half frozen and I mean FROZEN ice cream and slightly soggy ice cream all in one serving. It was not creamy and it was overly sweet. It also took a long time to make. Why do they make the employees do it all by hand? No mixers? The whole operation is just done very haphazardly.

Spring Break Sunday… what to do?! Kids and ice cream go hand in hand, so this was a no brainer. Time to try SubZero! The staff was young, but chipper and polite. The owner seemed a bit stressed because this place was packed! It’s very small. There are only 3 tables inside and two outside.
You pick your liquid base (yogurt, ice cream, almond milk, etc), then you pick a flavor (vanilla, pistachio, mint, peanut butter, nutella, etc), and choose your mix-​ins (fruits, nuts, candies, etc). They put all this in a metal bowl which is then placed under Nitrogen at 321 degrees below zero! You choose the consistency you want (soft, medium, hard) and they will even re freeze it if it melts while you are eating it.
You can make your own concoction, or you can choose a «Sensation» which are customer favorites that have become menu items. I had the Magnetic Mint Sensation. It was very yummy. The mix-​ins were in one tiny little scoop, which I felt wasn’t going to be enough, but it surely was.
I definitely recommend this place to satisfy that sweet tooth, or just for fun with the kids.

After an event we decided to stop for Ice cream/​Yogurt at this nitrogen prepared ice cream parlor. I’ve tried this concept before however what I think sets this place apart is the menu and the attention of the staff was far more friendly than others. Specially being there just before closing.
We had the Chocolate Conduction and the Peanut Butter Bonds and both were very delicious. The man making our scoops actually asked how would we like it (Soft, Medium or Hard) and suggested medium but the fact he asked left an good impression.
They have an assortment of toppings and various base dairy and non-​dairy products for your cold treat. Watching them make it is a little show of its own that’s fun to watch. Although the rapidness of chilling allows for smaller ice crystals, which gives it a smoother texture. Commonly used technique in molecular gastronomy but applied in creating this delicious take on this sweet classic.
All in all it is a great concept and a great alternative for ice cream. I will be coming back

We ordered a large magnetic mint and it was delicious. The waffle bowl was included in the price. It was super green in color, which I don’t care for, but it was still tasty. I love liquid nitrogen ice cream since the texture is nice and smooth.
When the owner was scooping the andes mint chips and other mix ins it didn’t look like much, but when I ate it every bite had plenty of chips. I noticed that the guy was super nice about substitutions with other people, so if there’s something you’d like to switch out just let them know. I like that they hand mix the cream and liquid nitrogen. It feels more artisan this way, haha.
They’re doing an excellent job of advertising this new ice cream shop through a Unilocal deal, Groupon, newspaper ads, coupons, etc. So take advantage of any discounts while you can. Great place to take your kids or a date. There are approximately three small tables inside for seating. Most people seemed to take their ice cream to go. I would recommend a more soothing color/​design scheme but that’s just me.

I was just walking by and saw a giant nitrogen tank inside Subzero. So naturally, I walked in, and asked if the tank had anything to do with the way they made ice cream. Then, they asked what my fave flavor was and I said chocolate. They immediately created their sensational «chocolate conduction» with fudge, chocolate, brownies and chocolate flakes… Better than sex should be its real name… Lol. Btw, they created it right before my eyes in less than 30 seconds at 321 degrees below zero. I took my first bite, WOW. I’m an ice cream lover and this is the best ice creative ever had on. this. planet.
I won’t ever go anywhere else but subzero for ice cream. It’s better than the best and I strongly recommend you try it. You’ll never want to go anywhere else!

We walked in and and we’re immediately greeted by Will S. The owner. He was extremely friendly even played a little trick with the kids. It’s looks Like any other ice cream place, clean and yummy… with the exception of the huge stainless steel tank filled with Nitrogen. The selection and options were huge. There’s all kinds of options from full premium to vegan. The flavors, toppings and options kind of intimidated me a bit, but in a good way. We ordered and the process it’s extremely interesting and fun to watch. Since it’s freshly made and there’s so many ingredients, it will take time so be patient and enjoy the process. It’s worth the wait.
Price point it’s standard and considering the quality it’s a good deal.

Claudia J gave me a ride home so I offered a treat to the new ice cream place.
Coldstone and Marble Slab takes ice cream shop to a new level by adding drama to the preparation of your dessert, and now nitrogen ice cream takes it to another level and appears to be the next fad. The fog is most certainly theatrical, but it’s not just for looks though. The fast chilling is supposed to minimize the ice crystal formation in your ice cream so you get a rich and extra creamy texture.(remember how melted ice cream gets lots of ice crystal when they slowly refreeze in your freeze?)
With a nod to all dietary trends they offer the ice cream base in no-​sugar-​added, low fat and vegan options, in addition to the regular. You can order your flavor and mix-​in, or go with their creations which is not a bad deal at all. They offer a long list of flavors, which come in bottles with pump, which I feel ambivalent about. The other nitrogen ice cream place I’ve been to, Chill’N, use more natural ingredients.
The taste do not disappoint, flavorful and smooth.

I guess it is grand opening, the staff do seem a bit confused and unorganized, albeit friendly.
ETA 1÷6÷15: Went back a couple of times and unfortunately the three stars stays.
Staff is still disorganized. One time the staff took our first two orders, then because production is the bottleneck, walked away to do something else, and nobody took the order for the rest of the group. Another time we waited and waited and our order was forgotten. I’ve been to Cold Stone and other nitrogen places none is disorganized like this.
As for flavors — it definitely has an artificial taste. Most processed food in the U.S. is loaded with artificial stuff anyway but if you are into eating natural you likely will notice that. In that case, stay away, and save yourself and the owner an one-​star review.
