Can I say, «The last of the Mohicans? «, this is the last of Miami’s original Royal Castle who was established back in 1938. Once upon a time Royal Castle had 40 locations between Miami-Dade, Broward, and Monroe County. Can I say when you first walk inside Royal Castle, it feels like you’ve gotten inside a time machine and went back to the early 1960’s-1980’s? I’m believing that everything from the chairs to the picture menus, to the grill is still in its original state, which I hope the owner never touches. I was in the mood for breakfast, since I was in the area and hadn’t visit this location in a very long time, I said to myself why not. For those who have never visited this place, you have to place your order with the cashier, pay for your order and then be seated. I opted to sit by the counter since it was all that they had available at the time of ordering. I’m glad I came, because Royal Castle is no longer a 24 hours 7 days establishment. When I was paying for my meal they had a sign posted with new hours(7am-3pm). I ordered their breakfast Friday special for $ 5.25 which included a piece of fried talapia, grits, eggs cooked to order, and toast. The menu I’m guessing is the orginal one because there is a small piece of paper written with the new price and tape over it, how cute was that. Everything is cooked to order, which is awesome. My wait time was minimal as I saw the chef cooking my meal in front of me and my meal was in front of me in no time. I had a fresh piece of crispy talapia, which was very hot to taste, I blew on it for a little while waiting for it cool down. The grits were very creamy and buttery and I added my eggs over medium inside my grits with a dash of salt and pepper. I was all very delicious and appetizing. I love the retro look inside this establishment and I’m hoping the owner James Brimberry keeps everything the way it is. Breakfast was great I had no complaints. I have to come again during the lunch hour and have some those nostalgic royal castle burgers with crinkle fries. I highly recommend this staple of Miami and come to enjoy either breakfast or lunch. You won’t have no complaints.

Although I never been to this location, but I remember a Royal Castle here in Coral Gables. It was on the corner of University Drive and Ponce De Leon Boulevard by a convenient store called U tote M. Our babysitter used to take us there when my brother and I were kids back in the late 70s and I remember my brother used to play Ramblin’ Man by the Allman Brothers on the Jukebox every time we ate there.

If you’re heading back to Miami Beach or points east of the Walmart on 79th street, this is a MUST stop for the BEST burger you will ever have! Dressed as White Castle sliders, these are miles above the now highly processed fare White Castle serves. Sure, it’ll satiate your craving for White Castle if you left your local place to move down to Miami, but it will also ruin you. White Castle ill become a distant memory as you pledge every fiber of your burger-lovin’ behind to Royal Castle. The«castle» itself(it’s not a «castle» like White Castle buildings) is staffed by a couple of ladies who will treat you like you’re their child, cousin, uncle or sibling. I believe a stern but loving slap upside the head would be given to a difficult customer… and it would obviously be deserved, thus by making you a better person when you left Royal Castle. The Chef is a man who knows his grill and he won’t let you have anything but what your heart desires. If one of the ladies didn’t ask about additions to your sliders, then he will. Expect perfection because that is what you’ll get! The place is clean but stylishly kept together with some bolts and old paint. I… I… must go there right now as just writing about it has me jonesin’ for a fix! The first time I went in and ordered two sliders, the lady looked at me like I was a crazy. Even the Chef checked to make sure I only ordered two. Two of these with an order of crinkle cut fries(ask for crisp) is a sensible meal. Eff the sensible meal when you are here! Order four and a side of fries, then take out an order of four because you’ll want more as you drive home. The rest of the menu looks scrummy! Old time, homemade diner food. I’m willing to bet it’s just as good as the burgers.

I see reviews about good service, but where was it when I went? I waited 10 minutes to make an order, with not a single person in the line but me, and 2 customers sitting sitting on food. Then when I finally get to make my order, a 6 pack with cheese. He told me 15 – 20 minutes for 6 sliders, I can make 6 regular burgers at home on my grill in 10 minutes. It’s a shame, it smells so good when you walk in. But I’m not paying 9 dollars for mini burgers and a long wait tine.

Great service, great staff and amazing burgers and the pancakes are to die for, truly home made. I will keep coming back, just as good as white castle or better.

So far so good. The service is nice and friendly, but they are a bit on the slow side. Now as for the food, yeah these burgers hit the spot. Nice soft fluffy buns with a nice grilled juicy patty.

Nice people. Unclean smelling. Disgusting restroom. Tough burgers. Rather drive up to Krystal’s. $.25 charge to use a debit card. $.50 for refills. I doubt I’ll be back.

I was in the area for work and decided to stop in for a quick and cheap lunch. I was hoping the burgers would be akin to the White Castle burger chain of the Northeast. I walked in and let the server know it was my first time. She was friendly and helpful. Sadly, I was not impressed with the food. The burger patty was too salty and the bread too thick and squishy. I also felt the portion of fries was not worth the $ 1.50 I paid. I won’t be back.

I love this place. Im born and raised in South Florida for the past 45 years, and I remember when they had Royal Castle all over Miami-Dade County in the 1970s before they closed them down on Miami Beach and Downtown Miami. This is the last Royal Castle in the USA. The location is very sketchy… especially at night. Now the place is okay and slowly falling apart. Ive been here a few times and have to watch my myself and car when I stop for lunch. Otherwise, I love this place! I love the Royal Castle burgers(aka sliders)…simply amazing and brings back childhood dreams. You wont be disappointed with the food at all… delicious!

Growing back up in Detroit, I became addicted to good sliders. The Old Hunterhouse on Woodward avenue is still the water mark for good sliders in my world. A friend brought me here for lunch with the promise of good sliders and I was not let down. Made the way I have always expected, with grilled onions, pickles and a soft white bun, and thin french fries on the side. With a touch of Mustard and ketchup I was delighted to no end. The resturant itself is quite nice as well. Old style lay out, counter service and mostly clean. Huge windows let in plenty of light, and the service has always been friendly. For Miami, this is a great sliders place. In the over all world, I would say it is average. Still, I do not hesitate to say yes when one of my friends suggests this for lunch.

It was 1976 when Royal Castle officially went out of business. After that it was up to the individual owner to do what they wanted with their location. Some chose to close up shop and sell, others continued on for a few years still using the Royal Castle name. Well most people think they are gone forever, but there are 2 left. Me and my brother used to go Royal Castle with our father when we were kids, although not this location. But we decided it was time to make a pilgrimage Harold and Kumar style for a six pack of mini Royal Castle Burgers. Now it’s been 30 years since my brother has had a Royal Castle Burger and I was so young, I only remember I loved their scrambled eggs and eating them at the counter. I don’t remember the burgers at all. When reading the reviews of this location and Arnold’s Royal Castle, it seems the major difference is the bun. Arnold’s steams their bun, while this Royal Castle puts the bun on the grill. My brother remembered that the buns were always grilled at Royal Castle, so we chose this location. Driving up to it, it stood out like a beacon lost in time, how many years has it been summoning hungry drivers to stop on in while sitting at that intersection. Nothing had changed. The outside still dressed in it’s royal 60’s best. Inside still had the original curvy groovy stools anchored at the counter. Even though I was young at the time, those stools are etched in my mind and it was a flashback. As we sat at one of the old tables, my daughter started touching the dirt around the window, I told my wife not to worry, that’s 50 year old dirt right there, the germs have long since died off. So we ordered a couple of six packs of cheese burgers. Just like white castle burgers, they are mini burgers, with yellow American cheese, little grilled onions, a pickle slice, and ketchup & mustard. The burgers are way thicker than white castles, although it could have been seasoned a little better. The bun on the griddle was great. It picks up all the flavor of the meat that way. Now I know how Clark Griswold should have answered Eddie when asked, «how do you like your bun?» Griddled with all the grease from the burgers please. The grilled onions that I love on White Castle burgers, I found a little flavorless here, but the pickle slice was tasty. The crinkle style fries were perfectly cooked. Golden on the outside and soft on the inside. I’ve always loved crinkle cut fries. There is more surface area for salt to cling to and the oil to get to when deep frying. Everyone working there seemed really nice, knowing that they are a landmark and that they will have food tourists popping into a neighborhood, that most wouldn’t normally be in. They made you feel welcome and brought my daughter a side dish of pickles when we asked, at no charge. The verdict…3 stars and not really worth a long drive to go get those burgers. But I’m going to bump it up to 4, because you have to respect a place that has been under the same ownership since 1964 and committed to keeping with the old Royal Castle tradition. Going down memory lane is always worth an extra star.

Other Unilocalers got their reviews right — especially Donald T. Sketchy area, but worth seeing a nostalgic place — a Miami institution open 24 hours. Sliders were okay — the meat were thin and overcooked for me. No vegetables inside but onions and condiments. So, for me, it tasted a little too plain. Fries were okay. I wouldn’t mind coming back though, maybe for something else. Or maybe sliders with bacon and cheese would be better. Servers were nice. Affordable, and with ample parking.

I had 2 cheeseburgers, fries, and a soda for under $ 5. These were standard burgers, the buns were dry and tough. The fries were fresh but the soda had the standard watered down taste. I would do anything for a juicy, moist, and succulent White Castle cheeseburger… White Castle patties have holes in them so it steams the buns as they cook permeating them w/the juices from the onions and meat. The perfect 2am snack. As long as Royal Castle improves the buns, it would be perfect.
