Royal Caribbean, Freedom of the Seas

This cruise line is terrible and more than that you feel that you are on the total control of the employees. This is scary how if the employees want to make your vacation that by the way is a lot of money and suppose to be a wonderful experience can make it terrible. We have been on almost all the different cruise line and Royal Caribbean is the only one that made us have a awful time. Maybe because the ships are to big and the are unable to control the quality of the crew. But we will never cruise on a Royal Caribbean ship again. We have been on Oasis of the Seas for New Years 2013 and on Voyage of the Sea 2004 and both have been a disaster. Never Again you will see us ROYAL CARIBBEAN. And by the way many strange accident have happen to passengers traveling on their ships.

Worst cruise ever! Broken engine caused shortened and missed ports. The ship was shaking the whole cruise. No compensation from RCCL who told us the matter is closed! They ruined our vacation so the matter is NOT closed for us.

Freedom of the Seas is my 3^rd cruise, 2^nd on Royal and like all my other cruise trips it was a memorable one. A lesson I’ve learn is don’t start out on the world’s largest cruise ship especially with Royal (since Oasis and Allure are their 2 newer ships) because you’ll get spoiled with activities and the customer service and the size of the ship.
Freedom of the Seas is part of Royal’s 2^nd largest line of ships, the Freedom Class, and by no means is it small, but after going on Allure of the Seas (world’s largest cruise ship) the difference in size is noticeable. We’ve heard great things about the ship and were excited to try new ports: Labadee, Haiti; Falmouth, Jamaica; George Town, Grand Cayman and Cozumel, Mexico. However, our expectations fell short, just a bit.
Although we didn’t spend much time on Freedom because of the 4 ports we visited, but when we were on board it was hard to not compare it to Allure. The customer service (at the dining room) was subpar compared to what we experienced. We did attended the ship’s activities such as; bingo, love and marriage game show, magic show, etc. they were pretty similar to Allure. The customer service at the desks were helpful with booking last minute excursions and incidentals with laundry.
We were able to book a scuba diving excursion last minute for 3 of us and the customer service rep was really helpful and assured us even though the excursion time exceeds the time the ship will be dock that they won’t leave without us. We did the scuba diving at Grand Cayman and this was our favorite activity. I was really nervous as I struggled at the beginning to stay under water in the pool that we practiced in, but soon got the hang of it. I would never imagined ever jumping into the ocean with a 30lb oxygen tank and goggles, but so glad I did. The water was so clear I could see at least 30 feet in front of me and we were about 40 meters deep. We saw various types of fish and even an eel, whose head was as big as a volleyball! We’ll never forget this adventure and highly recommend everyone to try it.
We also stopped in Labadee, Falmouth, and Cozumel. I think Falmouth was our least favorite of the 4 ports. We did a beach excursion and enjoyed, but it was a wow factor compared to the Grand Cayman. Labadee was Royal’s private stop so everything was just as expensive as it was on the ship. Cozumel was fun with it’s Mexican culture and our Mayan Ruins tour.
Overall, Freedom was really fun, but we miss the size of the larger ships and the bond we made at the dinner table with our server. However, we our cruise addicts so we already booked our next cruise for 2015, unfortunately 2014 will be the first year we won’t cruise, but 2015 we’ll be on Oasis!

I’ve been on some really big ships in my life but never one as large as this. This beast literally blocks the horizon. When it was launched in 2006 it was the largest cruise ship in the world.
For geeks that like specs, the ship is 1115 feet long, 126 feet wide and taller than the statue of liberty. It holds 3634 passengers and 1360 crew. The monster can hit 21.6 knots and weighs in at 160,000 tons. To put that in perspective, a Nimitz class aircraft carrier that launches and lands 40 ton warplanes weighs about 100,000 tons. A very big ship indeed.
The nice part about this ship is that they put the extra space to good use. Many other large ships that I have been on just use the extra space for more staterooms and not more fun stuff. This ship is different, it even has an incredible 445 foot center area that is lined with restaurants and boutique. They actually hold parades in it.
It has all kinds of cool and incredible things like a basketball court, mini golf course, 3 swimming pools, hot tubs, a surfing pool, theaters, huge jogging track, boxing ring, fitness center and even an ice rink. Pretty amazing.
We’ve found that the service to be beyond nice. People were always saying hello and asking us if we needed anything. Our room was kept so clean that if we dropped anything it seemed someone would be there to pick it up before I could even bend over.
A big part of cruising is the food.
