Rock Game Shop

This review is based solely on a phone conversation. I will check out the place in person later and post another review. I called with questions and spoke to Chris. He was very helpful. He was both professional and approachable. After some of the negative reviews I read about the employees, I have to admit I was a little gun shy about calling them. So I wanted to share my positive experience. Thanks!

Lots of great toys for all ages but the staff made the experience little to be desired. They seemed more concerned about getting us to pay for a photo with them then actually pointing me in the direction of the toy I was looking for.

This game shop is the stereotypical nightmare game shop. The employees have one of two looks, sheer boredom or contempt. Have you ever gone into a shop and the kid behind the counter just talks down to you every chance you get for every question you have? I’ve experienced that every time I’ve been here (I mostly come in during the evenings.) Employees have no problem double charging you on small items like a can of soda, the employee simply chuckled as if it was a damned joke. It’s only a dollar, I understand that. but how many times have you over charged other customers? This brings me to my next point, the employees have their usual gang of friends that come in to hang out that consist of the shops other employees and their friends. I understand that it’s a game shop and people come to hang out, but when you allow them to get so out of hand that it forces the other customers who are actively playing to have to stop what they are doing to quiet them down in excess of 6 times, there’s clearly a problem.
If you plan on coming here just to play and not buy a large amount of merchandise, please know and understand you will not be treated well, more than likely someone will growl «Get out» as it has happened to me and my gaming table. Even then, you need to make sure you don’t ruffle any feathers. But if you decide to go anyway, here are a few more things I have about the store itself.
The bathrooms always smell of human waste and heavy doses of Febreeze to mask the smell (seriously guys, just clean it up).
The shop is always kept at just under boiling, the fans they have at every other table only serve to give you a short break from the poor hygiene of the other players.
This store caters almost exclusively to the trading card and board gaming crowd, so all you Heroclix, Warhammer, and Star Wars players may not want to come here, I believe I may have seen some miniatures possibly once here and there, but there are no tables for you to actually play.
In this day and age of the internet, the only reason you would go to a brick and mortar game shop is to do one of two things, game and talk shop with the employees about things that are coming out or strategies and what not. This store makes it abundantly clear they don’t care for customer service, they jut want to hang out and take your money. If I were you, I would avoid this store. There aren’t many others in Miami, but they certainly work harder for your money.

I hope to be able to give them more stars next time I visit because the shop was nice and spacious, lots of tables to play games, and they had a decent verity of board games available which was the reason for my visit, unfortunately I was there for a good, 15 minutes without any sort of acknowledgement. I’m a little frustrated about that.

I once had issue with this store, but they came up to me and apologised. They were very professional and attempted to rectify what had happened. I’m not one to hold grudges and i continued to return to the shop providing services from my occasional purchases. But lo and behold, I’m back here on this app having to rectify myself for a second time.
Long story short, the person running the register that night brought in his friends and they were being rowdy. So much so that my group, and two other groups, had to ask them to tone it down because people literally were sitting next to each other and couldn’t hear over the roar of these guys. This continued to the point where my friend left early because they got a migraine from all the yelling. Eventually our group had enough and told them to shut up because they were being disruptive. And instead of pacifying the situation the guy in charge of the register yelled back at us and told us to get out. We were already in the midst of leaving, we were just cleaning up our messes. So we finished and left. We were outside the shop trying to figure out what we were going to do for our game nights now that we felt uncomfortable going back. And suddenly the friend of the register guy comes out and starts verbally attacking us. He wasn’t even trying to talk to us, he just came to tell us we were in the wrong and when we disagreed he went off the deep end. Calling us faggots, idiots, ignorant, etc. He got so much to the point where the guys that kicked us out, came outside and instead of doing anything they just stood there and watched. Then finally one of the guys who didn’t even work there stepped in and stopped this ranting lunatic. And we were able to settle the argument the kid started for no reason. Over all if you are representing the store you work at, and you disrupt your own store to the point where your customers feel uncomfortable then maybe management should reconsider you standing considering stuff like this happens with this guy all the time from what I hear.

Great location, friendly staff, very accommodating to board gamers and card players alike. Nice open space for playing.
UPDATE: This continues to be my Go-​To «Friendly Local Game Shop» for Tabletop/​Board Gaming. Their selection of Board Games may be a little limited but they’ll special order anything you need, and they are really friendly and supportive of the local Board Game scene. Highly recommend! As of Sept. 2015 they have a Board Game Meetup here every Tuesday night from 6pm to close and it’s very active, fun, and free. A+

I play a lot of board games, but don’t really buy a lot of board games.
I am that fortunate nerd whose friends already own all the best games, so I don’t feel the need to rush out and buy duplicates (though I have to stop my husband from doing so more often than I’d like).
I grab noodles at nearby Siam Bistro and head over to this place on Tuesdays when my life isn’t exploding. From about 5 to 10pm, geeks descend on this place to roll dice, sort cards, and in general, get their board game on. I’m a huge fan and the crowd is great.
I haven’t bought anything from the store yet (my bad), except the occasional Virgil’s cherry cream soda (and God Bless America). But I love the staff! They are real people and cool, and nice.

Excellent store amazing service. Fast orders if needed something shipped. Informative staff alot of variety in games and stuff in stock. Colorful clean well lit store with great environment for gaming even on a weekend.

I was visiting the area from out of town and on the recommendation of an employee who noticed me looking at packs at Walmart I took a drive to this store with the intention of buying some packs and singles. I arrived at the store at 1:30, when their posted opening time was 1. The door was locked but there were people inside sitting at tables with the lights off. An employee came to the door, unlocked it, opened it a crack and informed me rudely that they were not open. I mentioned that their posted opening time was 1, he said he was «dealing with some shit». I told him I was from out of town and came here on the recommendation of another employee. All I wanted to do was spend money in the store, but I guess it was not important to him. The employee was very rude. I will not be returning to this store.

Owner has addressed the issue and apologized. I appreciate the quick response but unfortunately will not be in the area again anytime soon.

The rock game shop is awesome. Excellent for card games like Pokémon, Yu-​Gi-​Oh, and MTG. Whether you need boosters, tins, or singles, the rock is your one stop for it all. Friendly, resourceful staff make this store better than others.

Really nice place! It’s spacey with a lot of seating, making it easy to sit in your own group or join others. The staff is very friendly, and their prices are incredibly competitive. So far the best hobby shop I have been to.
This place is PACKED on Thursday nights for Magic tournaments (only night I’ve been), but there was still room for people to sit and play that weren’t in the tournament.

I heard about this store through a friend, and I was a bit hesitant to go due to my time away from playing any trading card games.
From the moment I stepped into the store, I was met by the owners of the store. Their immediate kindness and willingness to help made me feel more at ease.
The store itself provides plenty of space for large tournaments, so there’s no need for the claustrophobic to feel intimidated.
The players that visit the store are all very friendly with a few willing to go the extra mile to help you with your game. I participated in my first FNM (Friday Night Magic) event and those I played against were great opponents, both in terms of competition and personality.
The store sells a variety of products aimed at board game/​card game/​table-​top game aficionados and at affordable prices. If you’re looking for Magic, Yu-​Gi-​Oh, D&D or anything in between, they’ve got it.
All in all, a wonderful store that I expect to visit again and again. With a constant stream of events, new products and a great crowd, it’s sure to be my new hang-​out spot.

This was ONE OF THE BEST gaming locations I’ve every been too! The Owners are AWESOME and love their customers as much as they love gaming. It was my first time playing FNM in two years and the people their are friendly, willing to help and very respectful. Great shop!!!

This store just opened two weeks ago. It is owned and operated by a very nice couple. I got the opportunity to meet the owner Chris. He has great plans for this place. It is clean, wide open and has a great assortment of Magic The Gathering singles. In fact this is the only shop in the area that sells the singles. He is just opened, yet already has many regularly scheduled games, as well as tournaments. The types of games available and played are limited to card, board and RP and your imagination.
The staff are friendly and outgoing, and I look forward to returning on a regular basis. It will also be the site of monthly away missions for the USS Blackstar, a Star Trek Fan group.
