History
Established in 1999.
The New Image Dance Company («New Image») was founded in the Summer of 1999 by Barbara Delgado. Prior to the formation of New Image, the legendary choreographers Mia Michaels and Dana Michaels were operating Joe Michael’s Dance Studio. Once the Michaels sisters elected to pursue their careers in other areas of the dance industry, they both looked to Barbara to continue on expanding and enhancing the studio into what is now known as New Image. Today, New Image has been fortunate enough to be the stepping stone and foundation for many professional dancers around the country. Among the many attributes that separates New Image from other dance studios is our primary focus on nurturing the dance spirit in all of our young dancers. While the dance studio industry has increasingly seen a paradigm shift into just simply a business, New Image has continued to emphasize education and discipline as the foundation for our young aspiring dancers.

Business Owner
Barbara Delgado is the Executive Director of Miami Dance Project, Inc and owner of New Image Dance Company. She began training in dance with her mother, Maruxa Fajardo, a well-known professor in Cuba and Mexico. By age 7, Barbara was dancing professionally with the Afro– Cuban Production of Ochun Obayeye. While dancing with this production company, she received many awards and recognition.
When Barbara became the owner and operator of New Image Dance Company (formally known as Joe Michaels Dance Studio), she continued her passion to help low-income dancers obtain the training needed to succeed in a career in dance. Many of her former students have found jobs working as professionals with dance companies such as Martha Graham Dance Company, The David Parson Dance Company, and Alvin Ailey in New York.
