This place is horrible. Buyer beware! One would think a place selling trendy, higher priced furniture would also have slightly better customer service and business ethics. Not the case! I’ve been chasing after these guys for several weeks trying to get a refund on bar stools never received after being ordered and completely paid for back in November. If I read these previous posts, I would of saved myself a tremendous amount of time, aggravation and money.

This store has beautiful furniture. I went in twice in one week determined to furnish my new house with a dining room table, chairs, kitchen table and chairs as well as a sofa, coffee table…
The saleswoman, Shelby Baugus, talked me out of buying from the store and into using her as my decorator. She promised me that we could find better things at better prices by working together. She was a fraud. In the end, I bought my furniture at Concepto Moderno in Ft Lauderdale. I guess the sales people could really damage the sales of the store!

Really nice pieces that you can completely customize. I hate standard typical looking Miami furniture and big box stores. I went in looking for something specific and walked out with an entire room. Michael was great and helped me modify existing pieces into custom items for my space and my décor and I got one of kind things. Yes it took a bit longer than expected which is why I’m not giving 5 stars, but you can buy off the floor if you don’t want to wait. the process went smoothly, price was fair, and the delivery team was great. I recommend Modshop if you have specific needs or are looking for truly unique items

I ordered 2 bedside tables that came in April and it was defective. Shelby was going to replace them and it will take 3 months more or less. It is now Sept. They haven’t delivered. I have tried to have it delivered and get a 10 to 12 window. I have to go to work after. The first time they were going to deliver, I called at 11 or 1130 to find out where the driver is and Mike said that the driver should arrive at 12 or a little later. I called at 1215 because the driver is not still here. When the driver called me, he said he couldn’t get to me until 45 mins at the minimum or around 130pm. So I had to reschedule for a week later and Mike promised I would be the first delivery. I call at 1030am to check where the driver is, Mike said he will call me back. I check again at 1115 and Mike said he can’t get a time because the driver hasn’t called him back. So again I have to resechedule. I still have not received my product and I am close to cancelling this charge on my credit card
This is not a high end boutique with good customer service skills. Rude people, crap products and have no idea what it means to have customer service. I’m not buying from them again.

The customer service at ModShop Miami is beyond horrible — it’s nonexistent. The new manager Mike offers no equitable solutions, nor way to escalate an issue above the store level. He specifically told me the owners «do not care about my problem» and «will not call me back.» I am still waiting for furniture ordered in the summer, which was promised in 8 – 10 weeks. If I could start over I never would have given this company any money.

I never do this, but I am so furious, buyer beware. Don’t let this companies shiny glam furniture trick you into purchasing from this company. Horrible customer service, terrible lead times that keep getting pushed back, defective furniture once received, then furniture defects a year later still trying to be resolved. Lies about how they will resolve it. My complaints are endless. Oh, and they tell my client I’m a liar.
We purchased a dining room table for our client last year, that was very late (they never hold true to lead times) a year later, the table top started to kind of separate, turns out moisture was in the between the glass. Assured they could fix it I get this response from Shelby :
«We are going to remake the dining table with the under-​painted glass. The under painting of the glass is what is causing the problem. We have had a few issues with this technique in Miami due to the humidity. So the new table will need to be made with clear starphire glass rather than the under painted glass. You can keep the existing table. I suggest that once the new table arrives to have that one taken to a glass repair shop that can make the table look brand new for you to hopefully sell to another client.» (this email was dated in September, I had been in communication with her since July on the matter.)
Well, finally, today (February 27) the table was to be delivered, but of course, that didn’t happen, because they «noticed issues when loading it on the truck». Here is a small piece of her email for the solution. :
” I can order another table with a film that is backed onto the back side of the glass rather than just painted and allowed to dry. This will eliminate the issue. We have found this detail to be necessary in Florida with the humidity level.“
So. The right course of action promised in September was not actually done and we are back to square one. Thanks for the additional discount, but how about doing it correct as promised.
Last fall, I tried to give them another chance for another client, but once again the lead times were pushed back and furniture arrived defective. However, they did resolve those furniture issues appropriately and in a timely matter. I will give them that.
As a design professional, I will never specify product from this company again, I will also warn all of my design colleagues against them too.
As of today, I’m awaiting to hear from the owners of the company. We’ll see if that actually happens. Last year when I was told the owners would be calling me about the ridiculously long lead time, I never heard back from them… they seem to be in China a lot.
So there is my rant. If you buy from here, don’t say I didn’t warn you.

I am giving them only one start as their designs are unique, fun and inspiring. I have had one of the worst experiences ever:
1) The orders were quoted to take 8 weeks. It took 4 months, and that was only because I kept contacting them. They used excuses like the Christmas holiday, backlog in shipping, the bad weather… but then would send me photos after the delivery date, showing that the item had been produced… really?
2) Before I knew that they lied about the lead time, I ordered more pieces and was encouraged to do so before a 15% went off deal. Michael told me to hurry and place the order on a SUNDAY, and then first thing Monday a.m. I opened my emails to see that the sale was actually increasing to 20%. I followed up and he gave me the additional 5% and claimed that he knew nothing about it, yeah, the very next day?
3) I was then offered a $ 200 refund due to bad service, of course I have not seen that.
4) The furniture came in not well made, without instruction for outside delivery people to assemble it. For the price of these items, it should be top quality. I have drawers that do not close, and doors that hang without proper support. After numerous emails to them, I have given up and know that I will have to pay to get it working properly.
5) The headboard I purchased was advertised as leather, and it is clearly VINYL. Wow .Can you say false advertising?
They have been rude, nasty, condescending and just lie. I rarely motivate to write any reviews on anything (except good) as its not worth the negative energy, but I would warn anyone from dealing with them at all. It’s not worth the hassle, the treatment, the quality or the price. If you see something in one of their showrooms and want to buy the item you see after inspecting it, that’s the only way to go.
I wish I had read the Unilocal reviews before I got involved with them.

I had a terrible experience with Shelby from Mod Shop. I am a designer who designed a custom piece of furniture. We spoke about it at length and she assured me the piece could be made. After ordering and paying for the piece she sent a drawing of the ordered item and it was completely wrong. When I tried to change the order to what I actually wanted she was incredibly rude. She then added that if I wanted the piece I initially designed it was not the price she quoted but more. I understand if there was a mistake or a misunderstanding but I expect to not be spoken to in a rude and sarcastic way. I will never step foot into this store again and I advise you don’t either.

Just wanted to send my «Thank you» to Shelby and the designers at Modshop. They were patient with us as we purchased our piece too early before closing on our home. Although it was ready weeks before moving in, Shelby was really of wonderful assistance. Thank you.
