If you circle the block, you won’t be the first! But inside that teeny parking lot is this hole in the wall! Go in and get your sandwich– it’s worth every penny!

Great steak and cheese for a reasonable price! Not much seating, but that’s not why you want to come, anyway :)

It’s a great little hole in the wall! At first, you’re not sure what you’re walking through, but once you get situated, you’ll realize how much they have to offer. Great vast menu of subs… All made fresh with fresh veggies. Definitely recommend it!

Chicken Philly & Dr. Brown! Oh hells yes! This little hole-in-the-wall gem is my go-to spot in the area. Super fast. Super affordable. Super delicious! They have daily specials for the lo-lo. Or you can order your old stand-by and literally be in and out in less than 10 minutes. They have a few counter seats and I think exactly one table, to chow down and get the out of there. There’s basically no parking that I’m aware of, so this is a spot to walk to when in the Hospitals/Campus/Courthouse area.

I frequent this place, and today I had a new sub to me that I’ve never ordered. I truly believe this is the best sub I’ve ever had in my life. I ordered the Honey Mustard Chicken on wheat bread with lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, onions and hot sauce. Do your palate a favor and try this delicious sub. Amazing!

This place is a total dump but the food is amazing. Cheese Steak is good as any I’ve had outside of Philly. You need to add salt and pepper because she only uses garlic powder to season meat.

Very small sub shop that has withstood the test of time. This hole in the wall sub shop has been here for over 20 years and is still kickin. The sub prices are reasonable and very tasty. This place beats Subway that happens to be just a couple hundred feet away hands down. The place is a bit dirty looking but I could overlook it, it being a sub shop and not a gourmet restaurant. This spot also has a Cuban coffee and café con leche stand if you wish to partake of the local flavor. It’s made by a fiery but sweet old Cuban lady so you know you’re getting the real deal.

This is a quick grab stand up place, or take out. Seating is limited, parking is limited and a pain, but if you can walk here from the office or the hospital, they have the best subs in the area. I love the chicken selections, with cheese and onions. The Bomb is really good, the buffalo chicken is spicy, and there are veggies options, but for the hard core vegetarians, note that every sub is made on the same grill with just a simple scrape down between sandwiches, so your veggies are going to touch meat most likely. The line wraps around a cooler in the middle, where I am always drawn in to buying a coke, and it is hard to pass up a frozen snickers bar. At the register, bring cash. They do take credit cards but you pay an extra 50 cent charge, and a frown from the person working the register who is trying to speed the lunch crowd through(which they do quite well here). I always grab several napkins on the way out as a well as a fork because the subs are over loaded and I spill enough meat to fill a second sub. I always choose here over subway and chicken kitchen when I wander out of my office for lunch.

Good. Greasy. Delicious. Order the philly cheesesteak. You won’t be disappointed. They lack salt but nothing a good ol’ salt packet can’t fix. I wish they had french fries though. That would complete my meal! The boyfriend always orders the jerk chicken, let’s just say that chicken is a JERK! TOO jerk-y for me. But none-the-less, this place is awesome for lunch. Screw you Au Bön Pain and your nasty-no-taste-having-expensive-sandwiches!

Eat and Run… the name pretty much says it all. Hidden in the bottom floor of Dominion Towers, someone recommended I try this spot several years ago to find«the best cheesesteak you will ever have.» The Jackson campus has several boring chains like Subway and Au Bön Pain, but I’m not really a big fan of either. Eat and Run really is a no-frills, hole-in-the-wall. After making you way to the ordering counter(which can take a long time during lunch, when the line sometimes stretches out the door), you can choose white or wheat, and a wide array of toppings. What really makes this place great though is that they will cook your meat(and whatever else you may add like cheese or onions) on a large stove as you order it, so you don’t have to worry it is pre-cooked and sitting around. The steak and chicken subs are always fantastic and super juicy, albeit, perhaps a bit greasy. The steak, cheese and onion on whole wheat is my absolute favorite. Definitely not the healthiest, but so worth it. Also, if you’re just looking for a basic cold cut, they can do that too(although it definitely isn’t as tasty). They also have small bags of chips, and different sodas. Don’t expect a bright, clean location with a beautiful seating area to meet up with friends for lunch… Eat and Run is definitely not that spot. The staff sometimes looks like you’re bothering them, and other times are incredibly friendly and helpful. Décor is pretty much nonexistent, and with the exception of a tiny table and small counter, seating isn’t their best quality and you pretty much should expect to take your meal to go. Also, this place is cash only, so make sure to have some on hand before you come in. However, the hot subs are really fantastic, packed with flavor and their fresh ingredients. Provided the line isn’t too long, you can get in and out in no time!

I finally found the only decent eatery in the area. Freshly made subs while you wait at reasonable prices. Why only 3 stars? I asked for something spicy and got a jerk chicken sub that probably burnt my lips, tongue, and taste buds off. I hope they grow back.

the place is utilitarian. A no-frills, to-go sort of sandwich shop. Seating is almost non-existent. Food is good every time you show up. It’s a good regular pit stop. Prices have gone up over the past couple of years, but they are still quite reasonable. One thing I’d change… they always seem to add sauces just before they come off the grill, which makes clean up easier for them on the grill but makes for a messy sandwich that could be so much better if the sauce was added earlier on. All in all? I’ll be back again and again for a healthy BBQ chicken sub.

Great cheese steak subs. All the hot subs are great. The only thing wrong with this place is the customer service. I would not be compelled to type this review if it was only a one time event but If you encounter the ridiculously rude blonde woman who works here be prepared to have a bad experience.

Good lord — this is even better than Subways(and yes, there’s one around the corner from this place — evil evil). But this place of old Americana(with a few of the Cuban influences) does it better — no microwaving here and every cooked meats is prepared fresh! I had the steak and(provolone) cheese sub($ 5.59) with everything on it(except salt and balsamic vinegar) and it was down-to-earth tasty! I would love to come back for more of their subs and try more stuff from their large menu(which is kinda surprising since they have a small shop). Everything is made fast though, thanks to it being well staffed and having several stations to prepare your subs. The menu is divided into several sections: daily specials, salads, breakfast sandwiches, hot subs, hamburger subs, chicken breast subs, steak subs, and café cubano(Cuban things). They also have an everyday special for $ 2.44 that includes an American Cold Cut or Chicken Salad 6-incher sub with bag of chips, and a can of R&W Soda. Talk about a good deal — but I opted for the real thing. OH and the credit card issue? They do accept credit cards. If it’s under $ 15(I think), then they charge a fee of 50 cents — and that isn’t a big deal. It’s cheap, tasty, and quick — I’ll definitely return!

this hole in the wall probably has holes in the wall, but man they make a good sub! don’t expect a fancy place or friendly people, just good tasting subs. very little seating(2 tables), so take it to go. located in dominion tower on the 1st floor, this is a go-to spot for lunch around JMH. their steak sandwich is so good, so full of flavor. breakfast is good too as their tostadas are HUGE and the café con leches prepared by TERE are the best you will taste, EVER. this cuban lady makes them with love! i’m telling you!

I love this place — it makes me wish I still ate chicken. I haven’t been for a while but I’d love to try out some of their veggie subs soon. The pros: quick, you can fax in an order ahead of time, delicious, cheap, coffee counter(i love the cortaditos here), right near the hospitals downtown The cons: cash only, long lines at lunch, greasy, probably unhealthy, parking, seating(not much) If you’re looking for a yummy, juicy, authentic right-off-the-grill kinda sub, this is the place to go. I’d recommend this for any one in the area who hasn’t been here before. It really is a hole in the wall — so order it before via fax then take it to the quadrangle and sit near the fountains and enjoy!

Eat and Run is a hole in the wall sub shop and the bottom of the Dominon Tower by Jackson Memorial Hospital. I’ve been there a few times and it’s always delicious. The honey mustard chicken and the teriyaki steak are a party in your mouth. If you work in the UM medical campus area it is a quick walk and a nice alternative to the other food places that are in the area that get boring really fast. The only problem is that they do not accept credit cards if the order is under $ 10(I’m pretty sure about that amount). Technically, by law they can’t refuse to charge your credit card even if its for a penny because they would be in violation of their contract with the credit card company. So if you want to make a big stink about it you can, if not then just bring cash.

When I was working at UM’s medical campus, I would go to Eat & Run all the time! The Cuban ladies who serve the customers are HILARIOUS! They always have drama! The subs are really good and REALLY cheap. Like DIRT cheap! The breakfast was also REALLY good and cheap! They made the BEST café con leche I have ever had! The tostadas are really big. I mean, you could split it up into two or three days even. I think this is the only thing I miss about working at UM.

Hidden in the bottom of Dominion tower, this place is very popular for their hot subs. It’s a hole in the wall atmosphere no doubt, but they make very tasty subs. Honey BBQ chicken, the bomb, etc. Spicy if you want. Jerk steak, steak and cheese, choose your bread, cheese, and spices. Very popular at lunchtime(mostly convenient for the people around this area plus there aren’t a whole lot of good walkable options). So it’s great for its area, but I wouldn’t drive to go here.
