Azucar Ice Cream Company

I saw this local ice cream shop listed in the ‘where-​to-​eat’ lists in my google search. Located in Little Havana and right across the street from Domino Park, it is a small shop that you have to check out (since weather seems to permit it). I was a little overexcited by the many different flavours they had and only wished I had more time to try the different ones.
Of course, the most popular ice cream is the Abuela Maria. It is a mix of guava and vanilla ice cream which is nothing but happiness in your mouth. I had it as an ice cream cone and the waffle cone was just so good with it! The service here was wonderful and I highly highly recommend you to check it out!

Amazing flavor options, I tried the key lime pie and boy did it taste JUST like a key lime pie! Great place to bring my friends from out of town to get the Cuban flavors of Miami. Reasonably priced as well.

The Abuela Maria is the best seller here and after tasting it, I definitely know why. If you like guava, then this flavor is so worth the try. It is a vanilla based ice cream filled with Maria cookies and guava chunks, topped with a guava syrup. I have a huge sweet tooth and often times crave this flavor. Its my go to place after a nice lunch/​dinner!
Oh! And it’s conveniently located in little Havana, right next door to Ball and Chain. You really get the feel for the Cuban culture with salsa music and locals dancing on the sidewalk.
Overall, it’s a must try.

I was on a tour of Miami, Little Havana, and South Beach when we stopped at Azucar.
I ordered the Mani Loco ice cream that has Reese’s Cups and Nutter Butter cookies in it. It was tasty! I haven’t had this flavor before and I appreciated their originality. Azucar has quite a few unique and unusual flavors to try.
Overall, I was happy with my flavor choice and options at Azucar.

Love this place! The atmosphere was nice and the ice cream was delicious. I got the Abuela Maria in a cone (which you can taste was homemade) and it was sooo good. prices we’re reasonable and we paid $ 8 for two ice creams (1 scoop in a cone and 1 scoop in a cup).
I will definitely come back again next time I am in Miami!

Great place to grab icecream on a hot day in Little Havana. The line is apparently always out the door here! They have a wall full of flavours, but their flavours are always changing and the one you want may not be what they have available. Interesting flavours, some typical ones and they have some cuban flavours and tropical ones as well. Nice convenient place in the main area of Little Havana.
PS. Icecream here is GUUUUD. Nice and creamy.

Azucar has amazing tropical ice cream flavors available, in addition to other unique combinations. My friend and I stopped by for an afternoon snack, and they were pretty busy on a Sunday afternoon. There was a short line at the time but it moves fairly quickly. They list their entire list of ice cream flavors on the wall, but don’t be fooled– there are I think 20 flavors available at a time, but the Abuela Maria is usually always available from my understanding. Since they allow you a few samples, I tried:
–Fig: I usually love fig anything, but fig in ice cream version was too sweet for me and I wasn’t a fan.
–Avocado: Too bland for me, and I couldn’t really taste anything.
–Abuela Maria (Vanilla Ice Cream w/​Guava Jam & Maria Cookies,
): Yummmm– This was definitely our favorite! The vanilla ice cream was smooth and creamy, and the guava jam and maria cookies added the perfect amount of extra sweetness.
–Colada ($ 1.50): Strong, and very sweet! But it does the job, so get this if you’re in need of a pick me up.
They didn’t have the Café Con Leches or Quattro Leches flavors, which was a bummer, but I’ll definitely be back to sample more ice creams and get another scoop of the Abuela Maria! Parking is the most difficult part about coming here since there isn’t a lot of street parking, so we had to circle for a while.

After reading posts about this Ice cream place and seeing that my fellow Miami blogger’s were writing posts on this shop I decided to head on over there with my family.
Living in Miami I have never taken my kids to see Little Havana and what perfect time.
Parking was not so bad although I paid $ 15.00 for two hours at a nearby meter parking. Kind of steep. I recommend taking an über, I saw so many people getting off of these rides.
The place was small and a littl packed. They have Celia Cruz’s painting on the wall and while standing in line I figured out why Azucar, that was Celia Cruz’s tag line.
On the wall they have all the flavors that they could have; however, it’s not the flavors that they have, I soon found out.
The service was friendly and great, being that they didn’t have the flavor I had chosen while waiting in line I web for a peanut butter flavor which I liked.
If I am in that area and craving Ice cream I will stop here but to drive 20 miles I will not.

Mamey is one of my favorite fruits ever and anytime I see anything made of it, I immediately get excited! This is what happened when I ran into Azucar in Calle 8. They have many tropical flavors — mamey, guava, coconut, mango, mantecado (Cuban vanilla custard), dulce de leche and many others.
I opted for two scoops of Mamey and Manzana Cubana ice cream. I have to say the manzana Cubana was super good! It was made up of mantecado with baked apples in it — you have to try this! The mamey was good too but it was very mild in its flavor (mamey tastes like pumpkin with tones of chocolate, almond, honey and vanilla) and I was left craving more of these tones.
Overall, this is a great place to visit while in Calle 8! Just make sure you take advantage of some of these tropical flavors.

Super nice service, we got to taste really cool and different flavors, but at the end went with the guava and Maria cookie ice cream! It is the bomb!
Love been in this part of the neighborhood, specially in the afternoons when you can see all the people playing dominoes and cara in front of this place!

It’s pretty difficult to miss Azucar on Calle Ocho. There’s a huge ice cream cone attached to the building! Once you walk in, you’ll be amazed by the huge amount of flavors and just all the brightness and happiness. But don’t be too distracted and make sure you order the Abuela Maria. Seriously.
It is super sweet, so maybe not your type if you’re not into that, but it’s seriously the best, especially on a hot day in Miami. It definitely reflects Azucar 100%!

Was finally to hit this local ice cream shop. After much deliberating I finally decided to get 1 scoop of Abuela Maria with extra guava (vanilla ice cream with guava and cream cheese swirls and galleta maria cookies mixed in) and a scoop of Celia (malta ice cream with condensed milk). I thought the ice cream was super good. A lot of amazing unique latin flavors as well as traditional mainstream ones too. Place is cute and unique. We sat by the window on the guayabera seat cushions.
*Only draw back in this area is the parking on this one way street is tedious. Better to park on the side street versus main street.

Flavor explosions in my mouth would be so hot if it weren’t so cold.
Being hot in Miami, ice cream is a commodity if not a necessity. It just so happened to be a recommendation that made me wait to enjoy these delectable scoops and flavors, and the patience paid off. Off-​the-​wall unique latin flavors grace this place with nostalgia and experience.
I got a Chartreuse flavored ice cream that was unlike anything I’ve ever had in a cone (only a Green Vesper or Last Word Cocktail) with Guava (rare treat) for $ 6! What $ 6 will buy you in Miami beach is a chocolate cone. And wow, I was satisfied and didn’t have any ice cream the rest of the trip because how could it compare to Azucar?

I know I’m late to trying this place, but I’m so glad I finally did. It is sooooooo delicious! The ice creams are all your favorite latin local flavors. Guava, coconut, cuatro leches… And also the classics like chocolate. The best of all flavors is the abuela maria. I highly recommend it!
Aside from the ice cream being so delicious, it’s always such a fun experience to walk down 8^th street on a Saturday night. The atmosphere here is so lively. I’m looking forward to my next visit to this Miami gem.

Located next to Ball and a Chain and connected to its courtyard, this place has unique flavours of creamy ice cream. After a few sampling some went for their best seller with Maria cookies with fudge etc.

Not that this place needs more 5 star reviews… I just wanted to add in my two cents.
Why is this place so great?
+ Because it has DELICIOUS ice cream and VERY UNIQUE flavors. Flavors that I have not seen anywhere else like the Abuela Maria or the Freshmen 15 or many of their other 100 flavors.
+ It’s also because this place is super CHEAP. 2 scoops make a small so you can pick 2 different flavors and it’s only $ 4.50. The ice cream flavors rotate so you always go back and get some new flavors!!! If I lived here, I’d go back every day until I tried them all!
The guys behind the counter are pretty serious… haha they were busy so I understand but it gave kind of a weird atmosphere. More seating than you’d expect for such a small place. It’s got one little table and a cushioned side seating area where you can fit a handful of people.
The service is fast and you can try as many flavors as you want. So good!!!
Oh here’s a tip: if you think something looks like it’s running out, just wait for more people to get it and a brand new fresh batch will come out and you get the good stuff!!! Things run out faster than you’d think!

Had the Abuela Maria and wow it was great. Loved the texture and the sweetness of the ice cream and would definitely grab another scoop if I get the chance to visit it again. They had a decent amount of flavors and many were unique, I believe I saw Bacon Bourbon as one of them. The price wasn’t too bad either for the variety. The scoopers were happily willing to explain what the flavors were and to give out samples. It has some cozy seating inside and a couple of seats outside as well. Parking was relatively easy to find and there were stores around so that you could enjoy a walk.
Definitely a must visit!

Another full star place during my Little Havana tour! I am sure everyone takes a picture of this place outside, the 3D ice cream cone logo outside really catches people’s attentions and makes you want to step in to try out their ice cream.
Once you enter this place, it gets even better. The wide variety of ice cream selection makes all ice cream lovers go crazy! What really interests me is this place has TONS of flavours you never heard of before (well at least in Toronto Canada). As part of the tour, we were given their signature flavour Abuela Maria to try. The Abuela Maria was amazing! It wasn’t too sweet but packed a bunch of flavours, it’s more of a fruity flavour though if you ask me. If I can choose whatever I want, I probably would go with the Café con Leche (Cuban Coffee & Oreo). From what I remember, the staff told me the name Leche came from the supplier of the Cuban Coffee, and I had a sample which was soooo good! Perfect for a coffee lover like me!
I think an ice cream store on Little Havana is perfect, considering Miami is relatively warm throughout the year, there is always time to enjoy an ice cream!

Azucar Ice Cream Company is located in Miami’s Little Havana and parking is absolutely a nightmare. You can’t really beat some of unique ice cream /​sorbet flavors that can only be found here (Abuela Maria, made from vanilla, cream cheese, guava, and Maria cracker, is Azucar Ice Cream Company’s signature flavor). Some of advertised flavors are seasonal, so don’t expect to sample 50+ flavors all in one visit. In addition, Azucar Ice Cream Company also sells Cuban coffees.
Flavors (during time of my visit): Frenchie, Jameson Banana Café, Abuela Maria, Passion Fruit Sorbet, Sweet Potato, Avocado, Sweet Corn, Jameson Honey Lemon, Pumpkin, Bourbon Buns, Strawberry, Mint Chocolate Chip, Lemon Sorbet, Raspberry Sorbet, Mantecado, Café con Leche, Sugar Free Cappuccino, Chocolate, Mango, Rum Raisin, Pumpkin Flan, Vanilla, Coconut, and Sugar Free Strawberry
The guy didn’t look super happy when I sampled few flavors such as café con leche & Jameson honey lemon (I didn’t particular like both flavors). In the end I got the two flavors I like the most.

Abulea Maria (vanilla, cream cheese, guava, and Maria cracker) & Bourbon Buns (Bourbon with Knaus Berry Cinnamon Buns), $ 3.70 for one scoop: Talk about one small scoop size … anyhow, Abulea Maria tasted very interesting, but it wasn’t the best flavor I’ve had. As for Bourbon Buns … not too bad, but the flavor lacked the 5-​star magic of Knaus Berry’s cinnamon buns. Honestly, I still prefer to eat Knaus Berry’s cinnamon buns when they are right out of the oven (warm and fluffy).

I am still a fan of this ice cream shop due to their concept and unique flavors, but there are better ice cream shops in Miami with better quality, parking, and service (e.g. Bianco Gelato).
