I saw the invite for this — and have read the article in our hometown newsrag — about this. It seemed cool enough, sculptures made of recyclable materials. Heck I even skipped an art exhibit in Hialeah for this! The show here at the Welcome Center didn’t have the huge pink snails themselves but rather miniature facsimiles. They did, however, have other pieces of work by the artist, mostly incorporating the theme of reuse including what looked to be old board games and pieces of old Nokia cellphones. It would have been nice if they would have had a few of the big snails on the beach itself, or at the entrance but apparently there were confilicts because of some car racing event that were on the stand. Still, some of the big snails are visible along 5th Street on the way from the Causeway. Food was actually pretty tasty. My favorites were the miniature pizzas on bread, and the mozarella and rice sticks. The mini turkey bites were OK but not memorable. The penalty with food is because, like exotic dancers at a gentleman’s club, the wine, grappa and limoncello bottles were look but no touch. They were tantalizingly arrayed in the table with the apps but they weren’t even giving samples. I heard conflicting reasons ranging from ‘No Alcohol in a municipal building’ to ‘They were only for sale’. However, I saw no one taking orders for them. I guess it’s what Chris Rock said in his musical classic!
