History
Established in 1936.
A landmark property dating back to 1936, the Hotel Breakwater was originally designed by art deco pioneer Anton Skislewicz who also crafted the Kenmore and Plymouth Hotels on South Beach.
Since its original heyday in the 1930s, the hotel has seen many changes in local culture and atmosphere. In the 1980’s, the resort’s presence helped South Beach recapture its’ appeal when it was featured in a popular Calvin Klein Obsession ad featuring Kate Moss and shot fortuitously by Bruce Weber on top of our famous rooftop terrace.
Following a multi-million dollar renovation completed in 2011, the resort now offers over a hundred spacious guest rooms and luxury suites with fully stocked mini bars, modern furnishings, flat panel TVs and iPod docking stations. Located in the very heart of the Ocean Drive strip, all of the excitement of the city is right outside the door.
