This is a hidden gem in Lake County. Beautiful colours, great talks that link up to the Des Plaines River trail, some great lakes for fishing.

Libertyville, IL
This is one of my favorite forest preserves in lake county. It’s beautiful with a small lake and lots of trail options from 1 mile to 2.7 mile loops. It also hooks into the des plaines river trail so you can bike or run any distance you desire. Not a bad place to jus sit and have a picnic either! It’s not as crowded as some of the other preserves so hopefully this glowing review doesn’t change that!
