History

Established in 2007.

In November 2007 we opened a retail store, the Fair Trade Marketplace. Featuring handmade items from artists around the world that help give them a sustainable living. In 2011 we added Café 1210 inside with homemade breads, panini sandwiches, desserts and our famous 1210 blend fair trade coffee! Café 1210 and Fair Trade Marketplace — Homemade food, and handmade gifts!

Love this Café! I can’t say enough good about eating here. The owner is the nicest. The quality of food is wonderful & I try something new all the time. My fav is the strawberry spinach salad! You can try a great panini or quiche or soup of the day. Lots of specialty drinks to choose from but my fav is the Italian Cream Soda! Service is always great. Best lunch in town!

After visiting the wonderful Metropolis rest area my fiancé suggested finding a café where we could get some hot tea. I whipped out my phone and quickly found Café 1210. From the rest area we just turned left. It took about 5 minutes or so to get from the highway to the café. The café is located on Commercial Park Road in the second building on the right. We arrived about 15 minutes before closing but no one tried to get us out the door. We were happily greeted by the owner.
Café 1210 did not have any hot tea but they did offer a variety of coffee drinks. They seemed to specialize in mixed coffee drinks. The owner told us her favorite is the peanut butter mocha and that they use a 16 hour drip for their espresso coffee. While this surely piqued our interests we decided to just have standard black coffee, which was really good. The owner sent us on our way with a complimentary, MASSIVE Amish butter cookie. We already had cookies in the car so we enjoyed the butter cookie a day or so later and it was amazing. It was butter turned into a cookie. My fiancé has already requested that I drive back to Metropolis to get us some more.
In addition to coffee drinks, Café 1210 also serves sandwiches, salads, and a variety of bakery options.
Next time we are driving by Metropolis I plan on stopping by for some food and another Amish butter cookie!
