History
Established in 2012.
Tuxedos to Geaux is a new company formed by Mel Grodsky, a 45 year veteran of the men’s clothing industry in New Orleans, Louisiana. Tuxedos to Geaux is a new concept in formalwear offering a complete package to OWN, not rent. Also unique is our free alteration service. The package includes a new tuxedo, formal shirt, tie and cummerbund set, altered to your specified measurements. The tuxedo has a 2 button, side-vented coat with flat front pants. A vest set including a bowtie, long tie, and handkerchief is available in place of the cummerbund set for $ 10 more. The tuxedo is made of a perfect, year-round fabric. We have an assortment of colors and patterns available for vest sets, cummerbund sets, and bow ties. We pride ourselves on fast, individualized service. Tuxedos can be purchased in-store or online.
Meet the Business Owner
Mel G.
Business Owner
Hailing from New Orleans, a young (age 13) Mel Grodsky entered the world of retail working for his father at Wright Tailors while attending a military high school. From there, he opened Mel’s Monograms in 1967. In the 1980s, during the oil bust, Grodsky’s father became ill, so Mel sold his uniform business, keeping the larger retail location and changing the name to J. Michaels after his children Jennifer and Michael. The store was located in Lakeside Shopping Center, the first mall in the Greater New Orleans Area. When the corporate headquarters of Porter Stevens (a large Chicago-based apparel chain owned and operated by Hart Schaffner & Marx) went bankrupt in 1995, Grodsky bought the name and operated Porter Stevens until November 2012. Grodsky closed Porter Stevens so that he could devote all of his efforts to Tuxedos To Geaux.
