Pieceful Solutions is a K-​12th organization created specifically to offer children with autism spectrum disorders and other developmental disabilities a comprehensive program using innovative teaching techniques. We work cooperatively with students and parents to set, plan for and achieve goals that focus on academics, social, emotional development and life skills.

History

Established in 2008.

Pieceful Solutions was created by Kami Cothrun, M. Ed. in 2008. As a former public school elementary special education teacher, habilitation provider/​consultant and business owner, Kami still had dreams of creating a school that would be created with children with autism in mind. With a masters in special education and 10 years experience with children with autism (5 years owning a state funded habilitation and respite agency) Kami felt she had much more to offer children with autism and their families. Kami noticed that the children needed to be able to generalize their skills through different modalities and environments.

Business Owner

Kami is a former public school elementary special education teacher, habilitation provider/​consultant and business owner. She has her bachelor’s degree in Speech and Hearing Science and a master’s degree in Special Education. With 5 years teaching experience including lesson planning, IEPs and data collection and 10 years experience with children with autism (5 years owning a state funded habilitation and respite agency) it has always been her goal to create a school designed specifically for children with autism. By using her degrees and experience, all curriculum will be created for, and focused on the special individualized learning needs of each child as well as a language component in each lesson. Kami can’t wait for the exciting journey ahead as she owns and operates Pieceful Solutions. Helping children affected by autism and their families is her passion. Kami lives in east Mesa with her husband, two girlS, baby boy and 3 dogs.

I used to work for Pieceful Solutions. It used to be a family friendly school and I loved going to work every day. Then they hired Robin Rollando. She treated me like crap and it was no longer a friendly environment to work in. Needless to say, i quit. I could no longer back a company who treated people so horribly. In my opinion they stopped caring about the students and their families and only cared about the money. I would recommend anybody who is looking at this school to run the other way. Also, Google Robin if you have a chance. Explains a lot.

My son attended the Mesa campus for 2 years and is now attending his first year at the Chandler campus. I love this company and all the staff. They are courteous and caring and he has improved tremendously in the last 2 years since he started attending. They also provide frequent correspondence whether through daily reports sent home in his backpack, or through email. My son has been able to blossom and improve tremendously since attending. I plan to keep him enrolled as long as possible.

I am a tutor to a student, who attends this so-​called, high school, for autistic students. Since I am an elementary teacher, tutor and advocate for this individual, I was appalled at their treatment of parents/​students last year, at the Back To School Night! We had to stand in 100 degree heat, no a/​c, chairs, no microphone, no water or refreshments, no accommodations whatsoever…
We struggled to follow an hour long presentation, of which we heard nothing! Autistic kids were bored out of their skulls… wandering around.
They opened a «storefront» on Warner/​87 and called it an autism school. Tuition is in the $ 25k range.
In addition, it was furnished with leftover, thrift store, furniture and was not state of the art by any means… We were shocked!!! You had to pay extra for transportation and food… When I emailed them, with concerns, the husband, of the owner, who not only is not educated to answer questions, he gave a nasty, snippy response, ANYWAY, with NO solution to the family concerns.
This year, 2014 – 15,they relocated the high school campus to Higley and Ray, which is located in Gilbert. The pick up is awkward, my client’s mother has had little to no communication, the teen seems to have regressed and all he says is, «I’m autistic !»
Originally, in 9th grade, he had tried online HS, algebra and geometry, he has been reduced to fractions… again. He never gets homework, his mother has had no communication or explanation as to what is going on, an inappropriate, inadequate, IEP, no lifeplan, no mention of job training and all he mutters when he doesn’t want to try is using his condition as a crutch… this is hardly empowering a high functioning, autistic student.
He is more than capable and able to work toward a future, why aren’t there strategies, accountability, partnership with EVIT for life/​job training??? Not okay, stay away.

I would never choose this school out of principle due to how they treat the surrounding community in which they are located at their Gilbert campus.
The building in which the school is housed has an alarm that goes off sporadically. It is very loud, and can be heard for at least ½ of a mile in every direction. There is a neighborhood of homes (higley park) right behind. When their alarm goes off sometimes it is not taken care of for extended periods of time. For example today is November 1st, and their alarm has been keeping 100’s of people awake all night long from 9pm through the time of this posting at 4am.
I have already contacted the school’s campus here directly, and when they didn’t have a helpful response on the issue I called the main campus. When I called they claimed they don’t have anyone who lives close to the school. So in other words 100’s of people have to lose sleep, because it’s too far for their representatives to drive.
Furthermore, upon moving in they set up their parent pick up in such a fashion that the parents pick up the kids standing their cars on a fire lane, and creating excessive traffic on a through street even though they have a a large parking lot that could be utilized for pick up. The school that was in this building before never caused such problems for the community.
I hope the school begins to respect the neighbors it has on all sides. If they can’t focus attention on such small things, how could I entrust my child to their care?
