Phoenix Marriott Mesa

Really enjoyed walking into the lobby of this hotel this evening and was happy to be upgraded to a suite. I do choose most of Marriotts based on the fact if they have a lounge or not as I enjoy the evening snacks. I stay in a Marriott 3 – 4 times a week and the lounges always have a vegetarian option, whether it’s an appetizer or the main and they always have beer & wine as well. They all seem to always offer cheese and some salad, hummus, vegetables as well so I usually can eat half of the items. I’m pretty disappointed as last night they had a meat soup and meat pizza for the mains and the cheese platter is mixed cheese and meat which also had one serving spoon. They are separated but with one pair of tongs being used for both the meat & the cheese, the only thing I could eat was the vegetables. I’m usually not one to complain but after a long day of traveling, I was looking forward to having dinner in the lounge but then I needed to venture elsewhere. Also, why isn’t there any beer or wine? I’ve stayed at so many Marriotts and this is the first concierge lounge I’ve come across without beer & wine! After leaving the lounge I did eat dinner in their restaurant which was good and I thoroughly enjoyed my shrimp and corn dish and the server was super nice. My room was nice and big, although the lobby has been renovated, the rooms are a little outdated. I always enjoy the Marriott beds especially at the main chains vs a courtyard but last night I didn’t sleep well. I was on the second floor above the fire out which is the social area. People were out there talking and drinking until very late and then people were out there having their morning cigarette.
So overall I didn’t have the best experience here, maybe it would be a different and better experience if I would have picked a different day and had a different room…

Very mixed experienced. Easily the worst Marriott we’ve stayed in. The Marriott name generally guarantees an above-​average stay in a nice facility with attentive stay. We experienced none of those.
Parking is somewhat strange, as you must park across the street. The facility is outdated and the upgrades are subpar. Staff at the front desk were less than friendly and a bit disorganized. The room was average. The bathroom need minor repairs to caulking and a leaky faucet.
We’re frequent visitors to the Valley of the Sun. Sadly, we won’t be staying at this Marriott again.

I have stayed here a few times, clean rooms, good breakfast. and low rate.

Great location and I am so glad they upgraded their internet. The last time I was here it was so awful I went to Starbucks to use my work email. Front desk staff during the day is very good. The concierge lounge has a nice variety in the morning but plan to be there before 8:45 because after that you will be rushed by the young lady manning it. She is nice but wants to have the food up and the place clean by 9:01. Every morning felt rushed and the fruit is never replenished. The evening service at the lounge is non-​existent and horrible. Never seemed to be cleaned, dirty plates and rude service. Attendant has terrible attitude, needs a new job. Housekeeping is good except for the plates which don’t get picked up for some reasons whether from room service or the lounge. Sometimes they would be there overnight. Yuck!!! It does need updating but the location can’t be beat.

Solid service experience. Major remodel since I was here about 3 years ago. The structure is dated and the town feels deserted but I find it a relaxing area and good service hotel. That would be different during spring training. Great central location — close to stadium, major arts center, library, and the conference hall is next door. Walk down to the Mesa arts center and local city train. Make a point to walk to Mangos — best local food — and hit the comic book store and buy some comics for your kids.

On Saturday, March 12^th, I reserved a room for my 15 year old son’s birthday celebration. We invited 5 of his friends with the plan to have a night full of swimming, movies and gaming.
When making the initial reservation, I was informed the amenities would include all of the above. Upon checking in we learned there were no movies channels and the TV was not capable of ordering movies for viewing. A Red Box was not available or in walking distance. Additionally, there was no gaming system in the room as I was assured there would be.
After checking with the front desk, I was informed we could bring our own gaming system to the room and hook it up. We live 40 minutes away from the hotel but my husband drove home and picked up the Xbox. After driving over an hour to bring us the gaming system, my husband discovered the Xbox could not be played on the hotel TV.
Again we went to the front desk where we were told by maintenance and the Acting Manager, Tatiana, that the TVs in the Marriott were not compatible with gaming systems.
A few hours later I checked my bank account. It was here I discovered three unauthorized pending charges from the Marriott for over $ 300. The boys had no way of charging anything to the room and I hadn’t purchased anything either.
I immediately went down to the front desk and spoke with Tatiana. She stated she had no idea where the charges came from and she couldn’t do anything to help me. She said I could contact my bank and dispute the charges.
Why would I, the customer, have to dispute charges made by the hotel?! Unauthorized charges they gave no explanation for! Tatiana argued with me for over an hour at which point I asked for her manager’s phone number. She called her manager Nate, and I informed him of what had occurred.
He stated he would refund the money of the charges and for the room stay. After resolving the issue, he stated he would contact me to let me know it was taken care of.
Sunday and Monday passed with no contact from Marriott or Nate. The charges had been processed through my account.
I took action and called Nate. He said there was nothing he or the Marriott could do to help me and my only option was to go through my bank for resolution. I was furious. Not only did Nate not follow through with his initial promise but he put the responsibility of fixing the issue on me and my bank. Obviously I am not a valued customer and the Marriott is not a customer focused business. From the amenities to the lying to the stealing from my account. I could not have been more frustrated or disappointed.
After speaking with my bank on Tuesday the 15^th, they stated it would be a drawn out process to do a dispute and I wouldn’t see a refund for several weeks. They urged me to contact the hotel. I called the Marriott back and requested Nate call my bank.
Nate did eventually work things out with my bank and he agreed to refund my money. Nate still could not provide a reason for the unknown and unauthorized charges. At this point it was too late for him to recover the bad customer experience that he, his staff and his hotel provided. I will never trust a Marriott again as I feel they stole from me, know they lied to me and was provided terrible customer service.
On top of this, it ruined my son’s 15^th birthday party. Had the receptionist and manager been honest from the beginning with regard to amenities, I would have chosen the Marriott on Warner in PHX as opposed to the Mesa locale. From this point on, I will never stay at another Marriott, nor will my large, extended family.
I have reported my experience to the Better Business Bureau as well as outlined my the interaction here.

Great full service Marriott in the center of Mesa walkable to the arts center. We stayed here to attend a Phoenix Symphony concert. Loved the hotel. Tha resto/​bar Azul is interesting with great bar staff. Breakfast was a bit chaotic but very good.
Location Location Location is what drives this place. Try it!

This is a pretty bad Marriott compared to any other I’ve stayed in, and I stay in a lot. Check in process was not well organized or very professional. The room décor is a bit outdated and while I understand the hotel itself is not now, at least the bathroom sink drain should work properly. The toilet handle was constantly stuck and ran water every time it was flushed. These things should all be taken care of and kept maintained on a regular basis so they don’t have to constantly react to guest complaints. I tried doing some laundry this morning and the front desk did not have any quarters and couldn’t provide me any change, and instead of saying that they would try to go get some more they just shrugged his shoulders. I went to the on-​site restaurant to ask for quarters and they told me that they did indeed have quarters, but they refused to give them to me as change, which I found a bit odd and a bit insulting. The Concierge lounge was the lowest quality food and selection that I’ve ever experienced at a Marriott, although the staff there up there are friendly and professional. I did get a good rate at this hotel and overall the experience wasn’t terrible, but far below what I have come to expect from a full-​service Marriott hotel.

For an older hotel it seems to be well maintained and the staff seemed friendly and helpful. The prices were reasonable, in fact cheaper than the Fairfield or Courtyard. The reason I am awarding 3 stars is because of my experience with the concierge lounge. I am a platinum member and have had a lot of experience with the various concierge lounges and this is the worst. Except for breakfast there is hardly ever an attendant present. They do not have a printer for the computers in the lounge so I had to go down 12 floors and find someone with the password so I could print my boarding pass off the computer down there.
Worst of all was the food. I often will eat out but stop by before bed for a dessert. Don’t bother. I have been here 3 times and it’s always a waste. Last night I was there it was little tiny dried out lemon bars. If you are going to provide a concierge lounge then do it right or don’t do it.

I am disappointed that I booked a king bed and paid a high premium for two full beds. I wish there would have been compensation. I would have booked elsewhere had I known they did not have the availability that they stated online. Room service has been quick and very friendly which has added value to my experience. Just wish I didn’t have to sleep in such a small bed.

I mean, a Marriott’s a Marriott, right? Some are nicer than others — this isn’t one of them. Not bad, just not particularly great.
The one thing that has stood out, though, is I got dinner and a drink off the room service menu for under $ 11. That’s pretty miraculous. I got the tacos — they were decent, mostly impressive because they were vegetarian, which is unusual for room service, particularly at a chain hotel. The fries were excellent, though. Skinny, crispy, just the way I like them.
I’m just here overnight, so we’ll see how they do for breakfast.

— And the big winner: the HVAC is incredibly loud. Even with earplugs it kept waking me up.
— Not that the hotel can do much about this, but Mesa is pretty crappy…

I was very happy my conference was hosted here — everything was in good working order and comfortable in my room. Staff and catering staff were exemplary. The only thing I wanted was a better connection to the WiFi — I was in an X16 room (end of long hallway facing out).

The rooms and the hotel as a whole are nice, décor and cleanliness-​wise. That’s not my issue, though…
My fiancé (now husband) and I decided to stay there since we were getting married right down the street. We instructed our out-​of-​town guests to stay there, as well as any guests that were partaking in the open bar at our reception. We called ahead of time (we are talking at least a week in advance) and we were told there would be a complimentary shuttle service from the hotel to the venue, as needed, starting at 4:30pm and then one trip coming from the venue to the hotel at 10pm, when our reception ended. We made arrangements with everyone according to what we were told.
Come 4:30pm the day of the wedding, I’m standing in the lobby with the wedding party and we asked about the shuttle service. No one knew what I was talking about. The front desk girl (who was very nice, but not very helpful) shrugged and said it wasn’t in the books and they didn’t have anyone to drive the shuttle. She finally went and got a «manager» (I’m assuming he was a manager as he never once introduced himself or tried to fix anything) and he told us that he «vaguely» recalls us calling and said that he had no one to drive the shuttles. So there we are, stranded as we didn’t have enough room to cart everyone over and still get ready for the wedding. We had guests from out of town without any transportation and we had to ask some of our guests and wedding party to shuttle people to and from the hotel. Talk about embarrassing!
Oh, and 10pm comes and there’s a shuttle driver sitting outside of our venue. I told him to turn around and go back because we were told by the hotel that there was no shuttle service and we had made other arrangements. He got snippy and stormed off like we wasted his time. We had to ask some of our wedding party to leave the wedding early to help us drive everyone back to the hotel.
Not once did the «manager» offer a solution or even try to remedy the situation. I didn’t have time to sit there and argue as it was already half an hour after I was supposed to be at the venue by the time I even got any answers, if you can even call it an answer.
What was even funnier is that my husband and I were walking out of the lobby after checking out and eating breakfast the next morning, and this «manager» saw us and turned around to head in the opposite direction. On top of that, they sent me a final bill (which was correct), but my credit card shows a much higher charge which is just salt in the wound and one more thing I have to take care of.
Other than that the room itself was nice, comfortable, and quiet.

I have been staying here for work for the last couple of weeks and this is a nice place. The rooms are large and quiet, however a walk in shower would be a great additional feature. Who doesn’t hate taking a shower in a bathtub!
I was able to stay as an Platinum Elite guest and have access to the complimentary lounge on the 12^th floor. You need a elite key to access the 12^th floor and the lounge. The lounge is pretty large with televisions, newspapers, free drinks along with daily breakfast, some hot entrees at dinner and deserts. The hostess for the lounge works split shifts so she is there for 6am breakfast and 5:30pm dinner to great you with a welcome and a smile.
The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful whenever I needed assistance. The Hotel itself is located across the street from the downtown amphitheater so it is a good spot to stay if your in town for a event or concert. I haven’t seen or done much in Phoenix but the Marriott seems like a pretty solid option for a stay.

Enjoyed my stay here, the beds were comfy, the staff was inviting & very helpful. I appreciate the promptness when we needed housekeeping & maintenance. Did not like the Wi-​Fi charge but nothing is perfect. It was very quiet & relaxing & I would return… Thank u Marriott in Mesa

The rooms are nice and bigger than expected. The setup allows me to be comfortable and do my work while out of the office.
I was pleased with the friendliness of the staff upon check in. They were very informative and helpful.

Modern Art Deco like feel in the rooms. I stay here for business at least twice a year. In the past, the rooms have been very clean. Today, they put me in a dirty room. The sheets were pulled off the bed. They came upstairs to give me another room. I’m just glad no one was in the room.
The concierge lounge is small, but they have great cocktail snacks and breakfast. The hotel has a good size pool and a restaurant with TVs for game day. This is a popular hotel for baseball players probably due to its proximity to the new ballpark.
Beautiful sunsets from the rooms. Nice place to stay.

It was very accommodating. Everything seems to be in good shape and staff was nice. It’s not the most impressive like a JW but it’s not a ratchet hotel either.

Where to begin? Our organization held its annual convention here and while the price was certainly right, we quickly learned that you definitely get what you pay for – and not in a good way.
The banquet manager is a nice enough guy but man talk about nickel-​and-​diming people to death! They tried to charge us .25 per pen if we wanted pens for our workshop rooms. They would charge us for water by the gallon and one of the staff very rudely informed me that if I wanted a cup of hot water for tea for my sore throat that I would have to buy the water by the gallon!
The rooms were all way too hot with the A/​C not working properly. Even the restaurant azul was HOT like bikram yoga class hot. The hotel overall had a musty smell to it and the pool was not well maintained.
The convention center was a perfect spot to hold our exhibit hall but the City owns the convention hall and they are ridiculous with what they want to charge for as well.
I’m not sure if it’s a Mesa thing or if this is just a restaurant beyond the norm for Marriotts because this was the rudest, most bizarre experience I’ve ever had.
