I’ve been coming to Sakura for 15 years, the food is authentic and the staff is friendly. They have an excellent sushi chef and a real sushi bar. One of the most fun things to do is sit at the traditional table in the front with a nice view of Merrick Avenue. I have never had a bad experience and highly recommend Sakura.

This is my go to sushi spot. Most of the time it’s fresh and delicious. I highly recommend their specials which are hand written on the walls. I have noticed lately they have been a bit inconsistent or perhaps service has changed. I used to be sat and given a hot towel, followed by complimentary edamame. However my last visit did not yield these customs. The sushi is pretty consistent and the waitress is a friendly woman who goes out of her way to repeat your orders to ensure accuracy. The ambiance is the most appealing. No loud music and no flashy city feel. It’s a small nook that appeals to my upper 20’s tastes. Certainly not a place to get trashed on saki bombs, definitely a restaurant for great sushi and a lovely evening with friends.

Its hard to find a good sushi place. For me what makes good sushi is fresh sticky rice and not too much of it, fresh fish and ingredients. Sakura meets all of the criteria’s but nothing exceeds expectations. Prices are comparable to other sushi places. Eats: — Eel avocado roll, nothing special — Yellow Tail roll, nothing special — house special roll was really good Drinks: Sapporo 22oz was $ 5 which is a good price Sakura is only a 15 minute walk away which makes it convenient. It would not be my first option for sushi.

Went with two other people. Two of us ordered sushi and a salad and the other ordered the bento box special which came with an appetizer. The salad and appetizers came out fine. When the sushi came out for the 1st diner… there was a baby roach running on the plate. I quickly got the lady’s attention as she was bringing out the 2nd plate. As she placed it in front of me and grabbed the 1st plate I noticed a baby roach on the second plate and quickly showed her. The 3rd plate was brought out as all this was going on and when placed in front of the 3rd diner… a baby roach crawled out of the bento box and on to the table. At that point I was so grossed out that you couldn’t pay me to eat there. I apologized to the lady and told her I couldn’t eat there and she was very apologetic to me as well but not before telling me I owed $ 5 for what we had consumed so far. I threw $ 8 on the table and walked out never to return.

Visit Date: May 10, 2014 I came here with my friend who I try to visit at least once a month in Merrick. I actually didn’t really want to eat because I ate breakfast with hubby not too long before this but she was hungry and she loves sushi so we went in with her nephew. The prices are very reasonable for a lunch special. Her nephew and I got bento boxes for under $ 10 and you get a nice meal with the bento box. She got some sushi. Without a tip the bill came to $ 29.30 for 3 people. I had a vegetable tempura bento box. The miso soup was delicious, it was on the salty side but I like eating food a little on the salty side. The salad was good too, not memorably delicious but still good. It was mostly lettuce though. The vegetable dumplings were also very tasty as was the vegetable tempura. The only thing they messed up a little with the vegetable tempura was the onion. Eating a japanese fried onion doesn’t taste as good as an outback fried onion. I did dig this place and would recommend coming here, seating is a little tight but if you aren’t in the place with a lot of people it’s not that bad. One more tip if you’re paying with a debit or a credit card there’s a minimum charge of $ 15 I believe.

I drive past this place everyday on my way to work. I finally ordered takeout and I am completely disappointed. My rolls were soggy and didn’t look fresh. Their crabmeat salad was yucky. I hope I don’t get sick. Never going back.

Great food, slow service. While the specials menu is somewhat confusing, and for such a quiet place, there seems to be too much décor, my sushi was very tasty and my udon was big enough to share for sure. I have gotten my order brought to me wrongly, but with great food comes satisfactory service. WOULD recommend.

Food is great! Service is great and the vibe is intimate and cozy. Best sushi and rolls on Long Island.

Just a quick review! Grabbed takeout here last night with my boyfriend. We each got a «roll boy» combo and he got a lobster hand roll. The roll boy consists of a california roll, alaskan roll, and a spicy tuna roll. With miso soup, it was $ 12.95. Super reasonable! Everything was super fresh and delicious. We didn’t sit in, but it is super cozy. Everything was efficient and the staff was lovely.

This place is great! Good and quiet atmosphere. I love how you can order out too. The lunch special is great and so are their shrimp tempura rolls. The gyoza is wonderful too. I frequent this place so often and the waiter service is attentive. Great and cheap eats!

Food always good. Service attentive, décor not overly done, actually sort of Spartan.
