Long Island Rail Road-Merrick Station

It’s just your average LIRR train stop. Looked clean as I passed through. My check in was mainly so I could document the Guinness world record holder for ripping a nasty fart on a train who was sitting next to me. It lingered long after he was gone too.

This station can be very dirty. They have cleaned up some of the bird droppings, maybe cleaned up a lot. But it is a constant issue. The enclosure upstairs on the platform has been better. Let us see what this winter brings. Hopefully it won’t smell.

I have to take the LIRR to work. It’s a necessary evil of the Long Island/​Manhattan commuter. I park in the large lot on the north side of the station, west of Merrick Ave. The problem with this is that there is only one staircase that accesses this lot. You have to cross Merrick Ave if you access any of the other staircases. As a result, I am stuck on a long line waiting to get down the staircase when I return from work. If someone is walking up the staircase at the same time, the line stops and has to wait for the crowd to clear before it starts moving again.

Been using this station for years. TONS of pigeon poop in walkway areas below the elevated tracks (none of the measures to prevent pigeon nests have worked). The platform level waiting room usually reeks of urine and/​or cigarette smoke and is not mopped often enough. The floor is NASTY! You can even see/​smell urine on the ground and outside areas surrounding the waiting room.
Since the street level waiting area/​ticket office is only open for limited hours, the upper waiting room should be better cleaned/​maintained.

They have trains and ticket machines. Like most train stations the parking sucks.

This station is pretty good. It’s got the same feel as the Bellmore station. There is only 2 tracks so there is never any confusion on which track to go to. Parking is free which is a huge plus but if you get there too late in the morning there will no spots left.

This is one of the nicer LIRR stations. I recently came here for the annual Merrick Spring Festival. I had never been to this station before seeing as I don’t have a need for the Babylon LIRR branch. This station seems to be a relatively large size, especially since they were able to fit the entire festival in the parking lot. The waiting room appeared to have recently been re-​done. It was shiny and new… Kind of how Hicksville’s waiting room looked prior to a bunch of bums taking it over.
I would definitely come here for another event, seeing as it’s large. Also, the Merrick Theatre is literally right downstairs from the platform.

I love the Long Island Railroad. There are many trains during rush hour and off peak trains run on the hour. I especially love the Merrick station. You never have to pay for parking and there is plenty of it. Of course, you’re going to have a tough go of it during the AM hours so get there early! The station has 2 serve serve ticket machines plus a large lobby. I find the station clean and safe.

This station is pretty nice. There’s a lot of cool places to go in Merrick that are fairly close to this train station. A small movie theatre and Paddy Power’s bar are among the few places near this station. The station is pretty much confusion free as there are only two platforms, although it’s necessary any more then two platforms at a station tend to lead to possible confusion. The waiting room is very big, the bathrooms are also clean. There’s a great and fairly cheap taxi company waiting to help you if you happen to need a cab.

Its nice that you don’t have to pay to park your car in the Merrick train station parking lot. Just beware by 9am you will not have a spot for your car.

Oh how I miss the LIRR, not to mention the frequency of trains on the Babylon Branch, especially here at the Merrick Station. What I don’t miss is the parking issues. In spite of expanding the lots over the years, if you’re not taking an early morning train, parking can be tough here during the week.
