MSDC is central Connecticut’s resource for no-​nonsense answers to self-​defense and personal safety instruction. We offer expert instruction in Brazilian Jiu-​Jitsu (BJJ) grappling, highly athletic Boxe Francaise Savate French Kickboxing, and Bruce Lee’s Jeet Kune Do (JKD — the ultimate self-​defense training). Our classes are exciting and beginner-​friendly, and we get right to the good stuff: self-​defense training that will make you safer TODAY.

History

Established in 2002.

In 2002, Chris Wright-​Martell founded the Modern Self-​Defense Center after being frustrated with the lack of high-​level, nontraditional Martial Arts training in Connecticut. He began offering programs in Krav Maga, Brazilian Jiu-​Jitsu, and Jeet Kune Do, all with an emphasis on giving people answers that they can put to use immediately.

Since then, MSDC has continued to grow and offer training to individuals and groups of all sizes in public, private, and university settings. We are proud to provide the best training possible, and we continually strive to improve and expand our offerings at our facility and in the greater community.

Meet the Business Owner

Business Owner

Chris Wright-​Martell is the owner & head instructor of the Modern Self-​Defense Center. He has been training in the Martial Arts since age 6, and holds multiple black belts in traditional and nontraditional styles. Chris is currently a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu-​Jitsu under Mr. Roy Harris, the highest ranked American in BJJ. He has been an instructor in the Harris International Grappling and Jeet Kune Do (JKD) associations since 2002.

Chris teaches seminars across the USA, and is preparing for the release of his first nationwide book on Self-​Defense.
