Mercer Island Community and Event Center

Lovely building. I spend 1.5 hrs a week waiting for my daughter. Comfortable seating however, forget taking a phone call in the building (which might actually be a great idea) my only compliant is my daughters group is here weekly, yet they are constantly Moved around to different rooms and one time for a month moved to a local school. I enjoy the art exhibits and the restrooms are clean.

I have visited this community center several times and have always found the facility welcoming. The front staff greet us at the door and are willing to assist when I need information. The landing (community room) is the perfect place to sit and relax while sitting next to the fireplace. My niece especially likes to visit the downstairs children’s area. I’ve been to other community centers and Mercer Island surely the nicest around.

This is a really great event center! I don’t have much to compare to, but the location is easy to get to even if you’re coming from Seattle. The parking lot is huge, and the staff members are helpful and friendly.
The large room is where we have our work meetings, and it holds up to 300 people, I think. The space is nice and simple. They even have a public space outside where people can hold photo shoots (that’s what we did).
Overall, I look forward to our work events here!

We held our wedding reception here. Prior to the event we worked with Kai who was very nice and very professional. She walked us through the process, and even helped us remember about certain permits we needed to acquire.
Because our event was held on a weekend afternoon and evening, we got to work with Zachary, the weekend and evening events coordinator. Zach was genial, always ready with an answer to a question, and just very very nice to work with.
The large room we rented is rather plain, but it dressed up VERY nicely. Our caterer really loved their full-​service kitchen. There is a nice long hallway outside the large event room which is great for staging foods before they’re brought out.
They are also LGBTQ friendly. My husband and I were treated with nothing but respect and kindness throughout the whole process and especially on the day.

I planned a company event here. I visited 4 times to make sure the event would run smoothly. It didn’t. It seemed all they were concerned with was tacking on rental fees. I hired a caterer for the event and had to move the catered event to a different location last minute (Day of event) because the MICC didn’t have there license for the $ 600 my company spent on Alchol even though our caterers had what the where asked to bring. At he end of the day the place is extremely un organized. No one followed up with us after the event to see how things went. I am still waiting for a deposit on the space that we ended up not being able to use. A complete disappointment to say the least!

EXCELLENT! place for meetings. I came here recently and was plesantly surprised. Staff are friendly and the space is modern and open. Tons of art splash the walls in the lower and upper levels. Gorgeous meeting rooms with great views! Nice nooks to sit in. Plenty of parking available in their private lot.

Good Space for Meetings… Not too fancy though.
My biggest complaint was having a Homeless Person shaving their head in the Bathroom. Just makes for a very awkward situation when trying to wash your hands, etc.
This incident has only happened once out of the handful of times I have attended meetings at this location.

The best thing I have to say about Mercer Island Community & Event Center is that it is absolutely beautiful. The Mercer room (s) is a great size with a fantastic garage style glass window that opens up at the end, and the outdoor terrace overlooking the water. And because it is a community center — the price was very reasonable for the location, in comparison to other venues around the area!
We recently held both our wedding ceremony and reception here and got nothing but great reviews on the location. Many of our guests now want to plan parties here. We wanted something on the outskirts of Seattle but close to home. Very easy to get to off of I90.
You can tell this venue is fairly new to weddings as there was some miscomunication the day of. And like a previous review mentioned, they were VERY nit-​picky come clean up time, on their hands and knees saying we needed to scrub harder… so that was annoying for our cleanup crew. It might be beneficial to them to offer a cleanup service (of sweeping and mopping) included in their rental price because I really doubt anyone can get it as sparkly clean as they want.
One other thing, when a couple of my friends and relatives showed up at the time of our rental, the staff refused to let them in the room unless they were the bride or wedding planner. Obviously I was not there yet and not arriving until 2 hours later, and I was my own planner. My aunt stepped in and said fine she’s the planner so they let them in to get the setup started. I understand they need people to sign off on the forms when we get there and when we leave, but I feel like that would have been something that they could have told us before hand so I could let them know who was able to sign off on my behalf.
Also if you plan on renting one of the «bridal suites”/meeting rooms — you will need to have a liquor license to be able to drink in there. Your liquor license for the Mercer Room rental will not carry over to that other room… another thing that was not mentioned to us when signing our contract.
Overall — I would do it all over again in the same location. It was amazing. Give it another year or two and I think they will work out some of issues mentioned above.

The facility is 5 star for a community center but the service from the staff is zero to one star. So average 2 to 2.5 star. We were there on Sunday night ⁹⁄₂₃ for a big event. we reserved the Mercer Room. On the brochure from their website the room is good for use till 10:00 pm. But since 8:45pm the staff kept rushing us to finish and close up. It was suppose to be a fun and relaxing night but with their poor service that really put a damper on the night. Around 9:00pm she took away the media system and the performer had to rush in the end. Then all the guest had to storm out the room since we need to put everything away and clean it up. It was nerve racking.
At the end after cleaning and mopping the floor, the staff was doing the inspection. I could not believe the way she conducted the inspection at around 9:35. She was kneeing down looking for dirt at every square inch very slowly and carefully, and she also had a rag with her and «wiping» things off the floor. She said tomorrow there is a Pilate group using the room and the floor has to be very clean. I do not see the reason behind it since the floor had just been swept and mopped thoroughly. I felt like she was nit-​picking on us and not letting us leave «on time.» Because we will get fined for running late. We left around 9:45. Overall the experience with the staff was very frustrating. It feels like they are rude, unprofessional, not very helpful, not friendly and not welcoming. It is hard to believe that the staff at a public community place can be this ignorant. What we have experienced is quite different what they says on their website and brochure. It is quite misleading. In a nutshell, not a friendly place to have a big event at all.

The Mercer Island Community Center is a beautiful and very functional venue. We rented the center for our Mehndi, a traditional Indian pre-​wedding party, in May 2012. Our guests (mostly from out of town) absolutely loved the high ceilings (in their largest room for rental), the outside terrace /​seating area, all of the windows, and the view of Lake Washington.
You definitely get a good value for your money. One of the biggest pluses is that because it’s a community center, you can bring in your own caterer.
Be aware – if you choose this for a wedding or party venue, you can only serve beer or wine on-​site. You cannot serve hard alcohol.
Actually making arrangements and dealing with the community center to plan our event was ok – nothing special. They weren’t particularly responsive or helpful, but our event went well in the end (largely due to our very skilled wedding planners).
Overall, this is a fabulous venue and I would recommend it.

We had my daughters wedding reception there and the facility was a great venue for a large reception and parking was easy.
I have to say that if rating the coordinator was available it would be a 2 stars, not a 4! I had to call and call, email, call some more just to get the room reserved. Then paying for it was another challenge. Nothing about Katie Hertzog was easy or pleasant. It was a frustration that wasn’t necessary as we saw the room, booked the only available weekend evening they had and made our plans around that. I had the credit card available right away and all we needed was someone to call back.
The kitchen was nice and the people at the front desk very helpful. We did have to mop the entire floor before we left which was not fun, but the staff there did get the water and mops out for us and a cart to haul out garbage and recycle. We were told the kitchen and Mercer Room were the cleanest they have seen it.
They were suppose to refund my CC the $ 400 deposit right away and low and behold, they only refunded $ 337.00. Yep, they didn’t refund it in full. What a shocker huh. So, back on the phone to call Katie Hertzog to see why she kept $ 63.00. A tip for great service on her behalf perhaps??? I think not!
Great wedding venue for sure but they need a new coordinator running that program!

This is one of the nicest, cleanest, best community centers I have ever had the pleasure to use.
The gymnasium is really beautiful. The exercise room is very clean, quiet and nice (and surprisingly never crowded). The equipment is of really good quality, and the TVs and personal tuners are in great working order. The treadmills face out to a beautiful view too — you feel like you’re running through Lake Washington~! Gorgeous!!!
They also have a lot of really interesting classes you can sign up to take too!!! You can take anything from Japanese ink painting (sumi) to aerobic hula hoop classes.
Classrooms and facilities are very modern, clean and maintained. The staff is always very friendly too.

I just got engaged three months ago, upon my search for wedding venue, I found this place on the website. So, I came to visit the location and the community center exceeds my expectation. They have really new and nice building, with a view of the Mercer.
They also offer gym membership, recreation program, classes, room rental, etc. If you plan to book the classroom, they have really nice classrooms.
