This place is excellent — Ly the owner is talented and an extremely hard worker with good attention to detail. A great place to take the kids for a hair cut, they even have a red car with a DVD screen to watch movies. Prices are also good. Highly recommend this location. Walk-​Ins work.

Great, affordable haircuts. I always ask for «short on the side, fade to the top» and every single time, no matter who, they do it perfectly. I have asian men hair for those who are searching for those terms, and they’re great. And did I mention a good price?

So normally I have the owner or his wife cut my hair and they’ve always done a good job this time they were little busy so Mai stepped in.
She asked me a number of questions how I liked it started cutting was open to feedback give me a couple of ideas and the haircut… I’m happy with what I have I will be back!

I went here based on reviews from Unilocal.I signed up on the wait list and within 5 minutes was on the chair for a haircut. Ly cut my hair and did it quickly and cleanly. No hair down the neck. This was the best cut I’ve had in ages and at a much lower price. Ly is a pro and I can’t recommend his shop highly enough.

I admit, at first I was nervous about Hair Excel and passed them by the first few times I was looking for a new stylist. Their clientele seemed to be primarily toddlers and teenage boys and I’m an adult female with tough hair to work with and a complicated cut/​color. But I was desperate, so I figured I would try them out, and have someone else fix it if it turned out badly, LOL.
Thu was my stylist and she was great! Gorgeous color and the cut looked really nice as well. I always receive a lot of compliments after she is done with my hair. The price is inexpensive and they are open seven days a week so it is pretty easy to get in.
I would tell any adult looking for a new stylist to not be afraid of all the kids :) and give them a try!

Mr. Ly is the only guy who can get my crazy hair right since I started to loose it. He is so special to me that I drive from Kent to see him. When I commuted on I-​90 and traffic was slow, I could get off on Mercer Island; get a great haircut; go grocery shopping; and get back onto I-​90 when traffic was not bumper to bumper and I could SAIL home!!! Shop is always clean and he knows his products. Love him, love him, love him. Thanks for many good years, Ly!

Great affordable haircut ($ 16) in the heart of Mercer Island. (3) stylists were busy cutting hair when I arrived. Ly the owner was welcoming and runs a very clean business… the best part is my wife loves my new haircut. Highly recommended!

Service was great and location was so convenient. I would definitely recommend this place and would continue to come back.

Thank you Le for keeping Mercer Island looking good. The shop is small but certainly big enough. The wait for walk-​ins (me and my family) is never more than about 5 – 10 minutes. Le and his team treat every customer like family. I have had my hair cut by most of the stylists and the cut has never been bad. That being said, Le seems to do the best job on my mop. The price is good and they offer frequent-​flyer cards that give you a free hair cut every few months. What more could you ask for. Parking is no problem and the place is very convenient for Mercer Islanders and anyone else that happens to be crossing the island on I-​90. I’m really glad that Hair Excel is doing so well. I hope they will be here for a long time.

Our usual stylist was out for a couple months so I took my kiddo there to get a haircut. They were really great there, super friendly, knew how– to work with my toddler and had a very fun race car seat for him to sit in.
The price is inexpensive for the service, quality and experience!

I love this place and these guys!
They have a kids chair, DVD player, some toys in the waiting area and suckered for the kids after their haircuts are done!
At $ 14 for walk-​in children’s cuts, quick service and great haircuts and style everytime, I don’t like taking the kids elsewhere. Other kids haircut places charge around $ 20 per cut and take 30min or longer per child! The first time I went to excel was with all three kids and we were in and out in 40min, and less then $ 45 for the initial haircuts!
They even fixed my child’s haircut before when a previous place chopped it up bad.
We have been going here now for about 6 – 8 months and will continue to do so!

The staff are friendly and always getting to know their customers. Due to being on a small island, I felt everyone who sat down had a full-​fledged conversation with their stylist. The stylist knew their family, jobs, and all sorts of things two good friends would know about each other. I really felt at home there.
The children who walked in were not afraid to get haircuts and from what i saw, everything looked pretty good! The salon is clean, open, and it doesn’t take an hour to get a haircut. I was amazed how fast they were. Thumbs up on the quickness and great job.

This place is literally down the street from me. They are very friendly, quick and cuts very well. I’m going to try coloring today… I’m sure they won’t disappoint. Ever since I discovered hair excel, my entire family comes here too. From my stylish mom to my picky husband and my little 20 month baby boy. We love it here! Keep it up guys!

Having received some poor haircuts in the past at other places I was a bit nervous to try someplace new… I walked in, got sat down, told the lady what I wanted and proceeded to receive the best haircut I’ve ever got. Great service, great attention to detail and great results! Highly recommend!

I had a great haircut and the location is clean and easy to find. Pretty much the best price for a simple trim and style I’ve ever had except for maybe ID /​Chinatown, but brighter /​cleaner and with easy access to parking shops and food in the area (Starbucks, Qdoba etc). These guys are consistently quick and do a great job from my experience.

My regular hair cut shop for the past one year. They do a great job, are very clean and I don’t see myself going anywhere else in the near future!
Edit: Almost a year later — still my regular shop. Never a bad cut. In fact I use the Unilocal app mostly only to check their timings:)

These guys saved us after an awful experience at a kiddie salon. Li (or is it Lee) is a total master and spent extra time with shears to give a precision cut, even to a 5 year old. They do have a kiddie racecar chair and movies for the littles. We will be coming here from now on for all our family’s haircut needs!

Believe it or not, there are a lot of hair stylists that have a very tough time with the most basic of haircuts — the buzz cut. I’ve had many experiences where a seasoned stylist has botched by buzz beyond belief.
So, finally, I’ve found a reliable place to get by buzz cut — Hair Excel.
Mr. Ly is a friendly, knowledgeable gentleman who has a good staff. For the most part they listen well and produce a great cut.
Sometimes there can be a wait so call ahead to find out; especially if it’s the weekend. Or go in and put your name on the list and then walk over to the coffee shop or peruse the surrounding small shops (not a huge selection of shops nearby; mostly geared toward women).
I appreciate that Hair Excel has a lower price for a buzz cut. So many salons charge for a regular cut when they are not the same at all. I also like Hair Excel’s ‘10^th Cut Free’ card. It’s really pays off for me since I get 5 – 6 haircuts a month.
Finally, I’ve witnessed Mr. Ly and the staff work very well with kids. They have awesome rocket seats for small children and I’ve even seen them plop a DVD player with a movie in the kids’ lap, which helps them keep their head still during the cut.
