City of Mercer Island – Maintenance Department

Throughout the past winter months, I’ve watched one particular pothole on my street grow and grow. It grew in width; it grew in depth. And it grew to become a nuisance and cause for concern.
I’d heard from family members that the Mercer Island Maintenance Department was very good about filling potholes, but I’d never experienced it for myself. So I went online, found the email address for the MIMD (
) and submitted a request for service, including a map with the location of the pothole to accompany the written description in my email. With wavering expectations, I was genuinely curious to see what type of reply (if any) I would receive and how long it would take for a response and completed request.
The next afternoon I received a reply from the MIMD; my service request had been approved and a work order generated for repairs. That was quick — and a great start! But how long would it take to complete the work order?
The following day, as I drove down the street that housed the problem pothole, I was impressed and pleased to see that the pothole had been filled! Within roughly 48 hours from the time I sent the request, the pothole had been completely taken care… that’s what I call terrific service.
