The Love and Logic class is amazing, Janada does a great job of making the class fun and interactive. The tools really work, my 5 year old has been a challenge at times but by using empathy and the energy drain, I haven’t had an issue with him in a week. It’s baby steps but I feel better about myself.

I am currently taking Janada’s love and logic course and have had a great response at home. She gives clear recommendations which are reasonable and easy to start implementing. There is much less yelling and arguing at home, and my kids are more cooperative. Great changes!

I highly recommend this class to parents who want to take a loving approach to parenting that will also be more enjoyable to implement than other discipline techniques. Janada is full of wisdom for all types of parenting issues. We are learning simple tools that seem to really work with our three year old. I feel like these tools help to build up my relationship with my children instead of pinning us against each other.

The Love and Logic Parenting class has been so helpful in bringing more harmony to our household! We’ve only been using the techniques for a couple of weeks, but the results have been immediate. Our daughter particularly responds to the ‘Energy Drain’ tool. There was push back the first couple of times I used it, and now, our daughter enjoys choosing how she’s going to put my energy back.
Here’s an example that is representative of how we use it: Take an instance where our daughter is whining about not getting to watch another TV show. Instead of my voice getting louder and my blood pressure rising, or trying to explain why she can’t watch another TV show, I simply say, very calmly, «Oh, this behavior of complaining is draining all my energy! How are you going to replace it?» The first couple of times she said «I don’t know» and so I would give her a couple of choices such as, «tell me a story or sing me a song.» Now, when I say «How are you going to replace it» she jumps in with exactly how she plans to do so, whether it’s a story, a song, a dance, a hug, a funny joke, etc. The whining magically stops, the tension dissipates, and we go on with our day. Thank you, Janada, for this and all the other great parenting tools we are learning!

I am currently taking the Love and Logic course with Janada. It is a fabulous class. Overall I would say my kids are doing great but as we enter the teen years I felt it was important to arm myself with some good tools. Janada is providing those tools going forward. The Love and Logic principles make sense and are easy to incorporate. I highly recommend the class and Janada!

Janada has been an ongoing help with my son and the Love and Logic program works! I use the strategies at home and give my son clear choices. He has become more independent and understands that his choices make an impact. He doesn’t always make the best choice but he learns from that also! When he makes good choices he sees the positive outcomes and that helps to encourage him to do more of the same. Thank you Janada for these terrific tools that are positive and practical!

I signed up for Janada’s class after hearing about its merits at a time when my 3-​year-​old son was testing the limits of my patience. Her direct approach to teaching the material and the variety of resources she makes available were so helpful. I was able to regain my composure, refocus my goals as a parent, and feel confident that I had tools available for the variety of situations I could face in the future. I was especially appreciative of techniques that allowed me, as the parent, to maintain control of the situation and take a step back before delivering the consequence. This gives my son and myself a chance to calm down. And, the materials have helped me put in perspective the goals of being a parent – to have my children understand that bad choices have consequences. And, if I can get my children to understand this at an early age, they will be better set up for making the best possible choice when I’m not with them.

Parenting shouldn’t have to feel so hard at times! Fortunately, Janada provides the tools to fall back on in the toughest moments. Her class on parenting with Love and Logic is a fun breath of fresh air. Anytime I hear friends talk about challenges they’re having with their kids, I tell them about Janada’s class.
We’ve got a spirited young son, full of opinions, and not always in agreement with our plans or timetable. Before Janada’s class, I often found myself losing my temper and arguing with my son, only to hear him parrot back to me the same arguments and tone that I had modeled. Since taking Janada’s class, more often than not I catch myself before getting hooked. With the tools Janada teaches, I can keep my cool while letting my son own his problems and consequences.
Recently, we got a phone call from our son’s first grade teacher saying that there had been a problem with our son in class. In a crunch to address the situation quickly, and at a loss for how to handle it, I reached out to Janada for help. She responded very quickly and helped me figure out the best way to handle both the teacher’s reaction and my son’s behavior in a way that respected them both. Janada practices what she preaches. She’s very empathetic. And, offers plenty of logic.
We are so grateful to have taken Janada’s class and gotten to know her.

Exactly three weeks to the day that I started taking Love & Logic courses my new tools were being put the test in an ultimate way by my oldest child, Max (11yrs). Max is in middle school and is going through that great time of «pulling away» and «searching for independence»; in doing so he started walking to and from school just weeks back, and with specific instructions: walk to school, walk straight home, check-​in with me so I know you’re safe. On this particular day, Max decided to change the instructions and on his way home he «made a stop» at his old elementary school, to say hello to his caretakers from the year prior; all would have been good and gone unnoticed by me accept one little hiccup: in diverting off path he placed down his trombone — and now it was gone!
Max came home, panicked; he was late, I was already upset that he wasn’t home on time and I didn’t know where he was and now he was crying, «I lost my trombone!» The old me, the «three weeks prior to Love & Logic me», would have begun my usual go of being angry, possibly yelling, blaming, setting punishment, etc. But, this time was different: I just stood there, said nothing. Max cried, «I lost my trombone. You’re going to be mad. How can I pay for it? Is it like one-​thousand dollars? Do I have that much money in my bank account? Can I do extra chores to pay you back?»
Instead of yelling, I realized I was allowing my son to go through the emotional stages for himself; I was sitting there and realizing that I could lecture my child for everything he did wrong and the outcome in a helicopter-​way of parenting, or I could allow him to process, listen to him and then put on my consultant-​hat and problem-​solve with him. Max wrapped up his crying, and I was able to keep my calm and say, «How do you think you could go about this situation? How could you try to solve finding your trombone?» The comment was amazing, my son stopped crying, no one was angry, and he immediately found three solutions that were all in the right direction: he made posters with a drawing of the trombone and a reward, deciding to call the elementary school the next day to ask the school secretary and he retraced his steps that evening to see if it was along the way.
Best of all, though, my son saw that I wasn’t angry, and instead of him «blaming someone else» for the situation, and «not taking responsibility» — all things that happen in the past prior to my courses, when I lectured him on his wrongdoing’s — he took the responsibility, problem-​solved and even stated, «Mom, the worst thing I did was not follow your directions by walking straight home; you must have been worried and in the end I lost my trombone. I’m sorry, Mom.» Wow! In a mere four and half hours worth of sessions I had finally received my first «true» apology, recognition of wrong-​doing, problem-​solving moment with my eldest child, and it was simple. I felt better, no guilt for having to yell and get nothing resolved, and best of all: my son felt heard, loved and supported.
Thank you, Janada, for teaching me a different way to parent! With some simple tools I now know how easy an outcome can be and with love being the basis to the solution.

I’m in the middle of my love and logic class, and have nothing but great things to say. I can already see a major difference not only in my toddler (2.5) but also in myself. I don’t get as over whelmed or frustrated because I have the right tools to deal with different situations. I rave about this class to my friends! You have to take it!

Janada was wonderful, and we received so much benefit from her 5 week class. Every parent wants to do their best, but kids are very good at pushing our buttons and testing us. Janada’s Love and Logic class provided us with great tools, and a supportive group struggling with the same challenges. Janada had weekly emails and handouts that provided significant details that we will be able to refer back to even years from now. She went above and beyond the traditional course and videos, and we feel much better as parents (and humans, since these tools have applications beyond parenting!). My wife and I are already seeing positive changes out of our son and also our behavior towards him. We can’t thank Janada enough for her class and her teaching.

My husband and I took a 5 week course, one day each week. We learned something every week that we could use right away with our children. We have 6 year old twins and power struggles were a way of life at our house a great deal of the time. Janada is a wonderful teacher. More importantly, Janada is a good listener. She is interested in helping you based on the issues you are having with your little ones not just giving you canned approaches to hypothetical situations. The tools my husband and I learned while attending Janada’s Love and Logic parenting seminars have been life changing. The things we learned about ourselves, our parenting style and what motivates our children have given my husband and I our freedom back. We enjoy parenting so much more now that it isn’t so frustrating. We learned that by empowering our children to be more independent we increased their self=esteem, critical thinking skills and over all desire to be compliant. We learned that we were doing too much for our children, stifling their growth. We were surprised to find that our children our quite capable of doing many things that we felt obligated to do for them. As a result of giving them choices and responsibilities we were less oppressed by parenthood and felt more like we were really enjoying raising health, happy, thinking children. Thanks Janada!

I recently completed a 5 week course, Parenting with Love and Logic, with Janada Clark and the tools I learned have changed our family dynamics for the positive forever! I am a recovering Helicopter Parent. I am learning how to be a consultant to my children, give them the the opportunities to think and make decisions for themselves and take responsibility and ownership. We rarely have shouting matches with our kids anymore, they are making their own breakfast, deciding when to do their homework and participating more actively in the care and keeping of our home without a struggle. The tools are easily implemented. I highly recommend this class to all parents and educators.

I took Janada’s 4 week course (1 night per week, 2 hours per class) that was organized at a friend’s house. I was very skeptical as the techniques sounded very 1950s. But I gave them a try and I was kind of shocked. They worked. In particular the techniques around empowering my kids– specifically, giving lots of choices throughout the day, and giving advance warning of when things would be happening. The results were almost magical. Tantrums suddenly disappeared. And I now feel deeply connected with my children for the very first time. Wow. That’s worth the price of admission!

Janada and Love/​Logic have been so incredibly helpful to me and my husband. We took the class about 2 years ago and have kept in touch with Janada since — we recently had a refresher coaching session and it was so helpful! As my daughter grows up, we have found the need to continue to remind ourselves of the tools — and it is so helpful. I highly recommend Janada and Love & Logic.

I am a teacher at a middle school that invited Jim Fay to speak about the Love and Logic tools several years ago. Many of my colleagues speak about Love and Logic in a «cult-​like» fashion– they really swear by the techniques. One of my friends at work was feeling overwhelmed by her 2 year old twins and took a class with Janada Clark– she loved it and spoke with me frequently about how the techniques were really working for her family.
A few weeks ago, I was 7 months pregnant with complications that were exhausting me and draining all my energy… but I was still working, running the household, and caring for my 2.5 year old. I found myself getting more and more frustrated with her behavior. I knew I needed some help! Fortunately, Janada was offering a class for toddlers and I jumped at the opportunity.
The first week, I felt like I was just understanding a few of the techniques. The combination of Janada’s teaching methods, video clips, readings, and some of the the resources Janada has on her web site really helped me understand a Love and Logic parent mentality. By just the second week I found myself easily trying some of the techniques… with great success! In a matter of days my daughter was behaving drastically different AND I had more energy. I couldn’t believe the effectiveness of the techniques and how well my daughter responded.
I can’t wait for our next class. But most importantly, I look forward to picking up my child from daycare again!

So about two months ago my wife broke the good news to me that I get to spend the next 4 Saturday nights going to a parenting class… then it got better… we were hosing it in our home… was I thrilled. not only do I get to give up 4 Saturday nights… I get to have strangers in my home!
After I got over this excitement I thought on top of all this I will have to sit through some typical liberal hippy parenting tips class…
Needless to say I went into this pretty closed minded! I am sure if you had video of the class from the first day I was sitting there arms crossed for the first half of the class. but by the end of the first day there were some points that started to make sense to me…
What I like about the class is they give you tools you can use and adapt to your child… Some of the tools I though would never work on my son because… to be honest he is a bit of a stubborn pain in the ass… (he gets that from his Mom)…
That being said we have started to use the tools and they really do work.
Best part is you can even use some of the tips on your spouse… I always give my wife 2 choices now… and let her make the decision. and I am thinking about trying out the Uh Oh song on her…
This review is more for the fathers out there… I am sure the Moms tend to buy in a little easier.

I had heard about the «Love and Logic» book through online parenting forums as a must read for any parent battling with a child throwing temper tantrums (so pretty much every parent at one point or another). I read the book geared towards the preschooler set and honestly didn’t think it would work for us — the examples in the book seemed more geared for a compliant, logical child… not my son, who would ignore us whenever we’d ask him a question. But I liked the general philosophy — parenting in a loving way that still teaches children that there are consequences to their actions — so when I saw that there was a Love and Logic instructor in town, I decided I wanted to host my own class and see if I’d learn more that way.
The class is SO much better than the book, partly because you are engaging with other parents who are in the same boat as you, but also because the information shared by Janada makes so much more sense when applied to your own real life examples. And she gives you access to a bunch of CDs, which I admittedly dragged my feet in listening to, but when I did I realized it really offers great supplemental information for my studies. I would highly encourage participants to take advantage of as many of the resources as you can while you’re paying for the course.
We’ve already started implementing some of the techniques shared in class and can see the difference it has made. Our son is still a tester and a pusher (and that will never change!) but at least the techniques have made me less frustrated because I’m removing all the back and forth negotiating I used to do in the past. And by offering him many choices throughout the day, it has changed our nightly routine from one of begging to get him into a bath into one where he’s too busy making choices to realize he’s now walked himself into a bath! Very happy with the class and would recommend it to any parent, including those who like me weren’t thrilled with the book. :)

I’m happy to endorse Janda’s classes. I think she does an admirable job and her class worked well for a number of reasons:
–the material is solid and has been validated over many years of testing and tweaking.
–Janda makes the class about the material and not about her. Sure, she gave a few personal stories to add context, but it works. Also, most of the stories she gives aren’t about her kids but about other kids she’s worked with through the program. She isn’t on the pulpit as ‘supermom’ but rather as someone who is helping you to learn the material.
–She isn’t afraid to tell a mom or dad (or you!) that you didn’t handle a situation according to the material. I think some ‘softer’ people might not be so brutally honest with their students. Janda is honest (even if it hurts a little) and this is what I think it takes if you really want to change your parenting style and try out this method.
Both my wife and I went and I’d recommend the same if you can find the time.

I was introduced to «Love & Logic» a few years ago when it was offered as a 2-​part class at Stanford. One reason I signed up for the class was the instructor, Janada Clark, whom had led a «Dealing with the Holidays» workshop I had attended the previous year. I was so impressed with Janada’s enthusiasm and ability to involve all the participants at that class.
A true believer in «Love & Logic» methods, Janada infuses the sessions with love and energy. She is very genuine; she has been in the «trenches» with her own children (now grown adults). Janada very generously loaned out her own materials (DVDs) to the Stanford participants. She is super organized — giving clear «assignments» and sending periodic emails to «check in.»
By attending these classes, I’ve learned and practiced the «Love & Logic» techniques which have greatly benefited my family. I hope that Stanford will continue to offer «Love & Logic» classes (taught by Janada) because we parents can always use a refresher course.
